WEEKEND WARRIORS: July 10-12

We won't list them every weekend, but don't forget about our weekly favorites...ladybug walks, story & a stroll, and the Jr. Ranger program out at Tryon Creek. And even though it's a bit of a drive, we had to mention that the Oregon Country Fair is this weekend near Eugene.

Friday

Itty Bitty Beach Party: Splishy-splashy fun for the youngest set (6 months-6 years). Water parade, fishing pond, penny hunts, splash contests, and more. Adults are 4$, kids are $2.50 (under 2 are free). Dishman Pool (77 NE Knott) 2:00-1:30 pm

Time Out: The Mother of All Comedies: If you're looking for some time away from the kids, you might check out this hit comedy series starring stand-up mom Jacki Kane. Each month, a number of moms present humorous monologues about various aspects of being a parent and a mother. This month, "Dad's Revenge."  $12 at the door or $10 in advance at Brown Paper Tickets. 7:00 pm.

Fernhill Park Neighborhood Concert: Tony Furtado (Contemporary Americana). Food Vendors will include Aladdin's Café, Hot Dog Ernie's, Mountain Ice, Nepo 42, Woodlawn Coffee and Pastry. Fernhill Park (37th, North of Ainsworth), 6:30 pm.

New Seasons Ice Cream Tasting: I scream, you scream...especially when it's the tasty organic kind and free! Try soy, hemp, and coconut milk ice creams too.  All stores, 11:00 am-5:00 pm.

Mississippi Street Fair: Fun!!! Music, kids activities (think bouncy castles and games), and food galore. Kids parade starts at noon. Lorna Miller's Little Kids' Jamboree is scheduled at Mississippi Pizza, 12:00 pm. Mississippi Ave between Freemont and Skidmore.See website for schedule of events. 10:00 am-9:00 pm.

Making Pirate Maps: Argh! Artist Sarah Ferguson shows you how to create a pirate map. North Portland Library (512 N. Killingsworth), 11:00 am-1:00 pm.

Set Sail!: A High Seas Adventure on the Creativity Cruise Line. Join Captain Curt for a high seas adventure in creativity this summer. The activities director has lined up tons of fun activities for this cruise – amazing tricks, hilarious puppets, and tons and tons of audience participation. Belmont Library (1038 SE 39th Avenue), 3:00-3:45 pm.

Family Music & Movie in the Park: Bring blankets and chairs and enjoy some free summer entertainment.  Music from 6:00 pm-dusk.  The movie is SpaceJam.  Pier Park 6:00 pm.

WEEKEND WARRIORS: June 26-28

If you're looking for some out of town activities this weekend, just 45 minutes east out the gorge is Sternwheeler Days (held ay my kids favorite playground ever) and right across the Bridge of the Gods (driving over this bridge is an event in itself) is the Brews, Blues, and BBQ in Stevenson, WA.  Both events promise great food, music, and plenty of kids activities.

Friday 

Ladybug Walk: A guided 60 minute walk around Lents Park for preschoolers, no registration necessary, $3 per child. 10:00-11:30 am.

Story & a Stroll: Enjoy a short guided walk that involves education about fox. Targets kids 3-6, rain or shine. Pre-registration required. Tryon Creek State Park, 1:00-2:00 pm.

Summer Kick-off Celebration: Portland Parks and Recreation has lots of activities planned to keep the kiddos happy and entertained this summer. Come sample some of what they have to offer, including the games, crafts, free swimming at the outdoor Montavilla pool, climbing wall, and much more. Montavilla Park (82nd and Glisan). 11:00 am-2:30 pm. 

Games at the Library: Drop in to play some board games, including Chutes and Ladders, Apples to Apples Kids, chess and Mastermind. There will be lots of games for preschoolers as well.  Children 10 years and younger. Central Library, 2:00-4:00 pm.

Paper Crowns: Join staff from SCRAP and use reclaimed art supplies to craft an elaborate paper crown.  Free. North Portland Library (512 N. Killingsworth), 11:00 am-1:00 pm.

Good in the Neighborhood:  A multicultural music and food festival, this lively event promises both from around the world. Starts off with a  parade on Saturday at 11:00 am, leaving from Dawson Park. Kidspace activities are daily from 12:00 -6:00 pm and will include face painting, crafts, bounce houses, and more. King School Park (400 block of NE 6th).  Activities start daily at noon.

Eastmoreland Garage Sale: If you missed the Laurelhurst garage sale last weekend, here's another chance to score a few bargains. With over 150 homes participating, that shouldn't be hard. Saturday  8:00 am-5:00 pm and Sunday 8:00 am-4:00 pm.

Lorna Miller's Little Kids's Jamboree:  Join Lorna Miller as she entertains adults and kids with music, rhythm, and movement.  $5 per family. Mississippi Pizza (3552 N. Mississippi), 4:00 pm.

Family Sundays at the Portland Art Museum: Every Sunday in June, visitors of all ages can create their own art inspired by the Grand Ronde Center for Native American Art (from 1 to 3 p.m.), take family tours of the galleries (at 12:30 p.m.), and listen to stories (from 2:30 to 3 p.m.). Free for children under 17, adults are $10. 12:30-3:00 pm.

Professor Banjo: A Portland favorite when it comes to old-time music, Paul Silveria performs for children as the banjo-slinging "Professor Banjo" entertaining children with sing-a-longs and dancing games accompanied by lively old-time music that parents can enjoy, too! Airplay Cafe (701 E. Burnside) $5 per person, $10 per family. 5:00 pm.

WEEKEND WARRIORS: June 19-21

There's lots to celebrate this weekend between papas, grads, and summer solstice.  Here's a few ideas to get you out and about.

Friday

Games at the Library: Drop in to play some board games, including Chutes and Ladders, Apples to Apples Kids, chess and Mastermind. There will be lots of games for preschoolers as well.  Children 10 years and younger. Central Library, 2:00-4:00 pm. 

Kidical Mass: Join other families around town for a kid-friendly bike ride. Bring lights, snacks, and helmets, of course. Rides leave from downtown (North Park Blocks)and Sunnyside Park (SE 35th and Taylor). Both rides meet up at 5:30 pm and leave at 6:00 pm.

Saturday:

NE Broadway Scavenger Hunt: Bella Stella is hosting a family-friendly scavenger hunt at NE Broadway businesses to celebrate the opening of their big kid resale store. Solve the riddle at each spot on the map and head back to Bella Stella for a prize! Those who complete the quest will be entered in a drawing to win a gift basket with prizes and gift certificates from local merchants.  Starting at 11:00 am, pick up your map at any participating business (see website).

Berry Jam: This celebration of Oregon strawberries will entertain all with hayrides to the berry fields, facepainting, music (Trashcan Joe and New Iberians), strawberry shortcake, jam making demonstrations, fresh roasted corn, coffee, and all the temptations of the Kruger's Farm Market. Yum!!  Saturday & Sunday, 11:00 am-4:00 pm.

Laurelhurst Garage Sale: Bring your cash and your wagon and get up early! The map is online, descriptions will be activated Saturday at 8:00 am.  Sale runs from 9:00 am-4:00 pm.

Kicking Hunger: This festival to benefit the Oregon Food Bank is trying to break the current world record for the longest kickball game (24 hours, 15 minutes) by playing for 30 straight hours.  The festival open to the public during daytime hours will include a variety of arts/crafts, food & beverage, and information vendor stands. Overlook Park (N. Freemont & Interstate), game begins at 10:00 am Saturday, ending 4:00 pm. Sunday (see website for music/vendor hours).

Crafty Mamas Bazaar: Come support your local crafty mama! In addition to a great mix of locally made goods, there will be treats, activities, store specials and giveaways!  Free chair massages for mamas from noon-3:00 pm. Milagros (5433 N. 30th Avenue), 11:00 am-3:00 pm.

Sunday

Sunday Parkways: The event we've been waiting for since last year, this closure of public streets through North Portland neighborhoods is perfectly timed for Father's Day.  Two individual loops will connect for a total of 7.5 carfree miles for biking, walking, running, skating, skipping, and whatever your carfree self can come up with.  Activities, vendors, and music will be clustered at the various parks along the route.  9:00 am-4:00 pm.

Junior Rangers: Kids ages 6-12 can learn how to help protect our natural resources, plants and animals. Participating in nature games, nature crafts and park explorations will help junior rangers earn their badge.  Free. The Saturday topic is bees, Sunday it is the fish of Tryon Creek. Tryon Creek State Park, Saturday and Sunday, 1:00-2:00 pm.

Summer Solstice at Tryon Creek: This free event will help capture the magic of the year’s longest day with Solstice-themed storytelling, guided forest hikes showing you the best of what Tryon Creek has to offer, and will be topped off with a search for the Tryon Creek Solstice Tree. The event is all-ages. Tryon Creek State Park, 6:00-8:00 pm.

Friday

East Portland Multicultural Fair: East Portland Neighborhood Association presents a music and food festival with live performances by Maharlika Dance Troupe, Danza De Los Viejitos, Ekome, Leonid Nosov, Cosecha Mestiza and Conjunto Alegre. Free, Hazelwood HydroPark (1017 N.E. 117th Ave.), Noon-6:00 pm.

Happy Hour & Family Dinner Concert: Come hear the "folk innovation" of Andy Simon while relieving yourself of dinner preparation olbigations, if you so chose (at the very least, a beer and some music first might make it more tolerable). Free, Airplay Cafe (701 E. Burnside),  5:30-7:00 pm.

Saturday

Felty Finger Puppets: Use felt, fabric, wool yarn, buttons and other embellishments to create your own charming finger puppets. Artist Shanon Scholian will show you how in this two hour workshop. Free, N. Portland Library (512 N. Killingsworth), 11:00 am-1:00 pm.

Cirque du Cycling:  A benefit for nonprofit Self-Enhancement Inc, this cycling extravaganza includes a free three-mile family ride, "kid zone", art bike parade,    live music, a beer garden, two-way street racing and exhibitors.  Mississippi Avenue, check website for locations and times.

Safety Saturday: Learn valuable safety lessons and fire department history by exploring the old Belmont Firehouse. Hands on activities include sliding down a fire pole! Plus Sunnyside Park, Laughing Planet, and Saint Cupcake are all just a block away! Belmont Historic Firehouse (900 SE 35th), 10:00 am-3:00 pm.

Lone Fir Cemetary Tour: What better time to tour this beautiful and serene spot than a sunny Saturday. The tour highlights Portland’s founders, early pioneers and nationally renowned figures as well as some unusual monument art. Suitable for all ages, $10 suggested donation, no registration required. Lone Fir Cemetary (Morrison and SE 21st Avenue), 1:00-3:00 pm.

Light up the World: This moving event might be a little past bedtime for the younger set, but might be worth a late night for the slightly older kids. A multicultural dance show choreographed by the International Union Club, a group of Cleveland High School students. The show includes 13 dances from around the world -- including samba, tango, belly dancing, hip hop, and others -- to raise money and donate the proceeds to the Children's Cancer Association. Miracle Theater Group, $5 per person, 8:00-9:00 pm.

Lents Bike Boulevard Ride: Join families and neighbors on a Bike Boulevard Ride to the opening day of the Lents International Farmers Market.  There will be helmet fitting (with limited free helmets) and a kids bike safety class (ages 8-12).  Kelly Elementary (9030 SE Cooper). 10:00 am.

Oaks Park Summer Kick-off: Nothing says summer is here like an afternoon on the midway. Discounted ride bracelets (print coupon from website) and live entertainment all day. Oaks Park Amusement Park, noon-10:00 pm.

Milagros Family Supper: The topic for this monthly chance to meet, greet, and learn will be hiking with kids. Bring your ideas for great local family hikes as well as a vegetarian dish to share and utensils. Free First Fridays at Portland Children's Museum: Bring a can of dog/cat food and join Oregon Humane Society to kick off early the Dog Days of summer, and decorate your own pet rocks! 5:00-8:00 pm.

Family Concerts: Check out two performances that promise to be entertaining to both parents and kids.   Andy Simon will be singing during the dinner hour (free, 5:30-6:30 pm) and Erik Herman will be singing his Elephant Song (viewed by more than 5 million on YouTube) and more from 7:00-9:00 pm ($5 per person/$10 per family). Saturday

Dragon Moon Festival: An amazing collection of puppetry, ballet and lion dancers, music, family activities, and more. Old Town Chinatown (4th & Burnside), noon-10:00 pm Saturday, noon-6:00 pm on Sunday.

Grand Floral Rose Parade: If you are up for braving the crowds (it's broadcast on KGW Channel 8 if you're not), the highlight of the Rose Festival has quite the line up of floats, bands, horses, etc. Leaves Memorial Colosseum at 10:00 am en route to downtown Portland.

Dragon Boat Racing: Over 100 teams will compete on the Willamette River in this Portland tradition. South end of Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 am-4:00 pm.

Tryon Creek Junior Rangers: Every Saturday and Sunday, June through August, kid 6-12 can join a park ranger and learn how to help protect our natural resources, plants and animals. Participating in nature games, nature crafts and park explorations will help junior rangers earn their badge.  No pre-registration required.  The Saturday topic is ladybugs and the Sunday topic is the State of Oregon. 1:00-2:00 pm.

$2 Sunday at OMSI: Entry for all is just $2 the first Sunday of every month.

Milk Carton Boat Races: It's National Dairy Month and as such, the racing milk carton boats have returned.  And, if you were wondering, it's not to late to enter.  See website for rules and tips. Westmoreland Park (SE McLoughlin & Bybee), 11:00 am.

Family Pride Day at Q Center:  A special pride celebration that's appropriate for the youngest community member. Crafts, music, and games for the all.  Staff from the Portland Children's Museum will be coordinating craft projects, bring a white t-shirt to decorate. Q Center (4115 N. Mississippi), 2:00-4:00 pm.

Portland Youth Invasion: Come and take over City hall with other Portland youth. AsiaFest: A celebration of Asian culture, this event will feature amazing drumming, dance and music performances, as well as delicious food and a silent auction. $5, free under age 10. Oregon Convention Center, 11:00 am-6:00 pm.

Benefit Barbecues: Each New Seasons store will be selling barbecue to benefit a different area nonprofit.  See website for details. 12:00-4:00 pm. 

Skate Jam: Come celebrate the opening of Portland's only skate park, including a skate jam, trick competition, and kids skate invitational.  Music and refreshments for purchase. Ed Benedict Skate Park(100th and Powell), 1:00-3:00 pm.

Campus Rail Jam Tour: Given that it's supposed to be 80 degrees on Saturday, a college snowboard competition with 20 tons of snow at Pioneer Square promises to be quite the site (maybe you'll already be downtown for the clothing swap below?) 1:00 pm, finals at 3:30 pm.

Kids and Maternity Clothing Swap: Round up unwanted clean children and maternity clothing, accessories, and other wearables and bring them to the swap. Unclaimed clothing will be donated. Central Library (801 SW 10th Avenue), 1:00 pm (times are staggered for different sizes).

Pirate Maps: Artist Sarah Ferguson shows you how to create a pirate map. Albina Library (3605 N.E. 15th Avenue), 2:00-4:00 pm.

Baby Loves Disco: It's back! If your kiddo likes to dance, you both don't mind a crowd, and you're secretly inspired to get down to anything ABBA, don't miss this disco dance party for the younger set and parents too. Wonder Ballroom, $12 per walking being, 12:00-3:00 pm.

Bus Parade and Fair: Celebrate the return of the buses to the bus mall with a lively bus parade that will travel along 5th Avenue, taking riders to PSU for a lunchtime street fair including music and dance performances. Leaves Pioneer Place 10:30 am.

Rose Festival Waterfront Village: Enjoy all that the Waterfront Village has to offer with free entry Friday. Opening at 5:00 pm, culminating in firework celebration at 9:45 pm. 

NE Moms Playgroup: You don't have to live in NE to join this group of moms that gets together to play and chat.  Bring a snack to share if you can.  Milagros Boutique (5433 NE 30th), 2:30-4:30 pm. 2:30-4:30 pm.

Family Sunday at Portland Art Museum: Visitors of all ages can use calligraphy to create artwork inspired by the Asian art galleries (from 1 to 3 p.m.), take family tours of the galleries (at 12:30 p.m.), and listen to stories (from 2:30 to 3 p.m.). Free for members or with Museum admission. Museum admission for children age 17 and younger is free.

New Seasons Burger Tasting: Sample beef (mmm...blue cheese and thyme), turkey, vegetarian and vegan burgers. All stores, 11:00 am-5:00 pm.

Play After Play: This Play After Play production from Scandinavia is about an old woman who needs cheering up. A young man comes by and shows her she has everything she needs when they make a pot of delicious nail soup. Most appropriate for kids ages 2-9.  $7 per person over age 2, reservations required. Mother's Day Walk/Run:  Start your Mother's Day off by doing a little something for yourself.  This 5 k walk or 10k run loops through beautiful Mt. Tabor, passing the playground where the kids can cheer you on. Bring something brunchy to share after wards, coffee and hot chocolate provided. Free, donations accepted on behalf of Adoption Mosaic. University of Portland Reading Fair: Bats, Balls, and Books: Come have a field day with reading! Better Living Show: The Energy Trust of Oregon is putting on this festival of all that is earth friendly for the home, garden, and family. It includes a pretty amazing program of constant kids activities, including hourly music times, story times, classes (make your own solar cooker, anyone?), and more. Not to mention plenty to interest adults, of course.  Admission is free, parking is $7 (but it is on the Max line).  Check website for detailed schedule of events.

Chicken Fest: This festival of poultry raising will display 20 different varieties and have a numerous workshops on raising healthy birds, including care, selection, and coop building. Friday includes a 30 minute chicken 101 class for kids 6 and up that includes a game and song. 3926 N. Vancouver. Visit website for additional details.

Earth Hour: Not an event exactly, (well, perhaps one of global proportions?) but of interest nonetheless. The World Wildlife Fund is asking individuals, businesses, governments and organizations around the world to turn off their lights and electronics (no computers!) for one hour – earth hour– to make a global statement of concern about climate change and to demonstrate commitment to finding solutions. Blow Your House Down: The Rebuilding Center in Portland, OR will provide you with the tools, reclaimed house materials and all the instruction you’ll need to build your own bird house. Thumbelina:In this Oregon Shadow Theatre production, Thumbelina journeys to discover her home in the land of the flower fairies. Who's in Hare's House?: Sungura the hare returns to find someone inside his house – and it must be a monster. Stellaluna Puppet Show: Adapted from the book by Janell Cannon, this is the enchanting story of a baby fruit bat who falls into a bird's nest. Multnomah Days:  It's always nice when streets are closed for street fairs, much more kid-friendly than when they aren't.  Kicked-off with a pancake breakfast, followed by a parade, roving musicians, and much more, this street fair is a fun opportunity to explore part of Portland you might not get to often. A shout out to the mamas whose kiddos are vacationing without them this weekend (okay, yes, I'm green with envy). But for the rest of us, here's a smattering of extracurricular activities for the weekend. In case you're looking to get out of town, there is some festival fun to be had.  Check out the Robinhood Festival in Sherwood, da Vinci Days in Corvallis, the Portland Highland Games, and the Gorge Games out towards the Dalles.  Also, if you love garage sales, you've hit the jackpot this weekend with the Concordia, Sullivan's Gulch, and Brentwood Darlington neighborhoods all holding neighborhood garage sales.

Mississippi Street Fair: This benefit for the Boise-Eliot Elementary & Albina Youth Opportunity School has BBQ, tons of music, dunk tanks and more. FREE, N. Mississippi Avenue between Skidmore & Fremont.  10:00 am-7:00 pm.

Vote & Floats: We say it every time...gotta love New Seasons.  Come register to vote and get a free root beer float (free even if you're already registered). All locations, Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 am-5:00 pm.

Bastille Day in the Pearl:  Even if you're not up on your French history, there's lots to love about this festival marking the storming of the Bastille Prison in 1789 (which kicked of the French Revolution)--wine, wine, and oh, yeah, other stuff too...a French market, lots of music, incredible food, and a "le jardin des enfants" (a children's area). Fencing demonstrations and the 4th Annual Portland Waiters Race round out the event. Jamison Square, 11:00 am-6:00 pm.

Lion Heart in Laurelhurst: This 5th annual fund raiser for the Oregon Chapter of the Children's Heart Foundation helps to support kids with congenital heart defects. The family festival  will have a marimba band, kid craft projects, toddler play area, bouncy houses, stilt walkers, balloon clowns, climbing wall, and lunch provided by Burgerville. $20 adults, $10/kids, age 3 and under are free.  Laurelhurst Park (SE 39th and SE Ankeny), 11:00 am-3:00 pm.

Where is Lilly the Catapilly?:  Everyone loves little Lilly the caterpillar, but one spring day loveable Lilly doesn’t show up to a tea party she was supposed to go to. That’s when her friends go to look for her. Ladd's Addition 4th of July Parade:  Anything with wheels or feet (well, almost) is welcome to participate in this Independence Day parade.  Excellent coffee is to be had at Palio, right on Ladd Circle! 11:00 am.

Itty Bitty Beach Party: Does this mean it's really summer? A splashing good time for the 6 month-6 year old set (with parent), including a water parade, penny hunt, splash contest and more. $3.25 adults, $2.00 kids, under 2 free. Dishman Pool (77 NE Knott). 11:30 am-1:30 pm.

NE Moms Playgroup: Join other NE moms every other Friday at this newly-formed playgroup. Milagros, 2:30 pm.

Kidical Mass: This family friendly bike event through downtown is designed to draw attention to kids and families on bikes. Helmets are required and decorations and bike bells are encouraged.  No cost to ride, but bring your ice cream money! North Park Blocks (NW 8th and Burnside--meet at the playground), ride starts at 6:30 sharp.

Saturday

Eastmoreland Garage Sale: With almost 150 homes participating, this is almost enough to make a garage sale lover salivate. Maps can be found at the Eastmoreland Market (3616 SE Knapp) and throughout the neighborhood. 8:00 am.

Bike for Bears: To help bring attention to the endangered species status of the polar bears and in support of Metro's "Drive Less, Save More" campaign, the Oregon Zoo is offering free admission if you ride your bike all or partway to the zoo between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

The Great and Wonderful Marionette Flea Circus!: Fred the Flea Bag wants to join the circus, but alas he doesn’t have any talent. With no act, what can he do? He is befriended by the Lady-bug clowns and the beautiful May Fly. Presented by The Oregon Fantasy Puppet Theatre and Celeste Rose.  Free. Holgate Library (7905 S.E. Holgate Blvd), 3:00 pm.

Eastmoreland Garage Sale: See Saturday.

Sunday Parkways: 6 miles, 6 hours, zero traffic! Bike, walk, hop, skip, whatever suites your fancy along this 6 mile loop through North Portland neighborhood streets. Along the way there will food vendors, music entertainment, and various clinics and kid activities.  Of particular note is the family bike ride and parade that starts at 11:00 am. This is an event not to be missed! 8:00 am-2:00 pm

If berries are your thing, then Sauvie Island is the place to be this weekend mamas!  Three berry festivals (and hopefully sunshine, no less!) promise opportunities for picking and snacking as well as hayrides, music, and other fun. Check out the Kruger's Berry Jam Festival , the Pumpkin Patch Strawberry Festival, and the Rasmussen Farms Summer Sensations, all being held Saturday and Sunday.  A happy Father's Day to all those dads on Sunday!

QFC Cake Decorating: Looking for a dessert for Father's Day?  Head on over to a QFC grocery store and have the kids decorate a cake just for dear 'ol dad.  QFC provides the cake and decorations. All QFC stores (55th and E. Burnside, Broadway and 33rd, and 6641 SE Milwaukie), $5 per cake, starts at 11:00 am, hours vary by store.

Maternity and Baby Swap: Need to clean out your kiddos closet or looking for clothes to accommodate your growing belly?  This swap might be the place for you.  Gently used items only please. Milagros, 11:30-12:30 pm.

Don't Bug Me...I'm Reading!: Join award-winning performer, songwriter, and educator Greta Pedersen for a lively and interactive sing-along. It includes songs in American Sign Language, accompaniment on guitar and mountain dulcimer, and a fascinating variety of percussion instruments (including fruits and vegetables!) which selected audience members will play. Belmont Library, 3:00.

Day of the African Child: Kids get in FREE to the World Forestry Center for this celebration of children living in Africa.  Storytelling, drumming, entertainment (marimba music, dancing, and choirs galore), crafts, and an African market.  World Forestry Center, 10:00 am-5:00 pm.

Cirque Du Cycling: Where to begin?  This crazy cycling circus (and benefit for Self Enhancement, Inc.) includes a 3 mile family bike ride through the streets of the Boise Elliot neighborhood, a parade of the most colorful, crazy bikes you'll ever see, music by the Sprockettes (and others), and for those speed junkies, the Mississippi Avenue Criterium.  Not to mention yummy food and vendors selling cycling-related wares.  Events start at 4:00 pm (sign in is earlier), check the website for details.

Little Kids Jamboree Join Lorna Miller as she entertains adults and kids with music, rhythm, and movement.  $5 per family. Mississippi Pizza (3552 N. Mississippi), 4:00 pm.

Toy Trains Performance: This popular kid band covers Dan Zanes, Lisa Loeb and other childhood tunes as well as some Beatles, Tom Waits, REM, John Prine. Especially great for toddlers that love to bebop to the music. $5 per family. Mississippi Pizza (3552 N. Mississippi). 5:30 pm.

Paid Leave Play Date: Join local parents working to pass paid family leave in Portland as they host a "Call Your Congressperson Play Date" to request support for new federal legislation calling for 12 weeks of paid leave for families nationwide. Urban Grind, NE. 10:00 am.

Sitter Soiree: In the market for a baby sitter? The folks from Sitter Soiree have pulled eager and qualified sitters from local colleges and daycares together for this event that makes it easy for parents to get contact information after meeting potential sitters in person. Painted Turtle Walk: Come see one of the largest populations of Western painted turtles in the Northwest. Pride Parade: With a crowd of over 50,000 (Oregon's third largest parade), the Portland Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer Parade is your opportunity to march down the streets of downtown Portland showing your pride. The parade winds down to Waterfront Park for even more music, food, and fun. North Park Blocks, 11:00 am.

Fathers Day BBQ and Car Show: The folks at the Radio Cab Foundation are holding a BBQ fundraiser (food by Burgerville!) at 17th and NW Kearney to raise money for their Annual Holiday Turkey Project, which provides holiday meals to over 1000 families every year. A fire truck and taxi-cab will be on display for kid interaction and the NW Convertible Car Club is holding a cruise-in of classic cars. 11:00 am-3:00 pm.
