Friday, October 16th 
October Special Open Studio at The Craft Factory in SW PDX. Drop by this family-friendly art space to create any Halloween-themed craft of your choosing, using as many materials as you need and staying as long as you like. Friday, 10 am-5 pm. $10. 
Preschool Story and Stroll at Tryon Creek State Park in SW PDX. Combining nature, art, literature, movement and outdoor play this week's event will teach little hikers all about slugs. Friday, 1-2:15 pm. Free!
Free Family Films in N PDX. Poa Cafe offers an eclectic mix of films geared toward ages 4-11. Films include time-honored classics, foreign films and current hits. Friday, 5:30-7:30 pm. Free!
Saturday, October 17th
Family Nature Fest at Columbia Springs in Vancouver. Bring the whole family to enjoy Oregon Zoo critters, live music, a world-renowned clown, guided nature hikes, and a scavenger hunt. Saturday, 9 am-1 pm. $5 per child 2 years and older. Accompanying adults are free!
Farm Celebration at Our Table in Sherwood. Get festive this weekend at this organic pumpkin patch that will also offer a cider press, caramel apples, hay rides, a photobooth, pumpkin carving, cookie decorating and more. Saturday & Sunday, 10 am-6 pm. Free!
Salmon Homecoming at Oxbow Regional Park in Gresham. Grab a front row seat as salmon make their journey back to the wild, scenic Sandy River to lay eggs in the riverbed and spend their final days. Talk with nature educators, take a short hike to the river's edge and gather around the campfire for hot chocolate or apple cider. Don't miss free activities for the kids! Saturday and Sunday, 11 am-4 pm. Free admission! $5-$7 for parking. 
Killer Pumpkin Festival at Green Dragon in SE PDX. Don't miss the pumpkin smashing, bowling, carving and decorating at this family-friendly event. There will also be pumpkin beverages and menus, as well as costume contests for all ages. Saturday, 11 am-11:59 pm. Suggested donation of $5. 
Sunday, October 18th
The MAiZE at the Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island in NW PDX. Celebrating its 17th season, this year's theme is Dream Big. The maze itself offers two miles of twists and turns within a five-acre cornfield. Sunday, 10 am-6 pm. Free for those who are 5 years and younger. $5-$7 for everyone else. 
Portland Nursery Apple Tasting in SE PDX. Sample over 60 varieties of apples and pears, try out the cider press, enjoy apple-themed desserts or take the little ones to the kids' corner for arts, crafts and fun. Sunday, 10 am-5 pm. Free!
Portland Retro Gaming Expo in NE PDX. Check out this blast from the past offering a giant free play retro arcade, vendor booths, performances, speakers and panels. Sunday, 10 am-5 pm. $22 and up.
