Families in the Field: Scouters Mountain Nature Park in Happy Valley. Children ages 6-10 and their families are invited to dive into the hidden secrets of the volcano and to search for signs of animals that live on the mountain. Pre-registration required. Friday, 10 am-noon. Free!
Afternoon Open Skate at Oaks Park Roller Rink in SE PDX. Roller skating is old time fun that never goes out of fashion. This event features a live DJ or pipe organ. Bring the kids and skate all afternoon. Friday, 1-5 pm. $6.25.
Seussical Jr. The Musical in SW PDX. Students of the Metropolitan Performing Arts Academy spent three weeks learning musical theater acting, stage makeup and costume design before presenting this whimsical and engaging performance for the community. Friday, 7-8:30 pm. $12.25-$14.25.
Saturday, August 22nd
Free Children's Painting Class in NW PDX. Children ages 4-8 are invited to join this class that focuses on creating art and reusing everyday materials. Pre-registration required. Saturday, 10-10:45 am. Free!
Red Yarn Performs Deep Woods Revival in SE PDX. Don't miss this dynamic family performer who weaves folk songs and puppetry into engaging shows for all ages. Families are invited sing, dance and laugh along. Saturday, 11 am-noon. $5. Children younger than 12 months are free! 
Orange Picnic and Fireworks Spectacular in SE PDX. Come celebrate the new Orange MAX line by donning orange duds and packing an orange-themed picnic. There will be a BridgePort Brewing beer garden, food carts and special-edition Orange Line Salt & Straw ice cream. Saturday, 5-10 pm. Free!
Sunday, August 23rd
Sunday Parkways in SE PDX. Explore the greenways while you make your way around the Sunday Parkways route. Don't forget to stop by all of the included parks, where a collection of fun activities, festive music and delicious food awaits you.
Market at Vancouver Mall in Vancouver. Check out the live entertainment, family fun activities, delicious local food, awesome crafts and fresh produce. Sunday, 9 am-3 pm. Free! 
Elusive Elk at Tillamook Forest Center in Tillamook. Naturalists will share ideas on improving your chances of seeing an elk and explore why they butt heads, shed their antlers and choose to travel the steep slopes of Oregon's Coast Range. Sunday, 11:30 am-noon. Free!
