Weekend Warriors: January 9-11

Friday, January 9th

Free Admission to Lan Su Chinese Garden. Receive a free admission with each donation of a non-perishable food item. Food to benefit the Oregon Food Bank. This offer runs through January 11th. Hours are 10am-5pm. 

Tallulah's Daddy at Cafe au Play. Listen to fun, energetic, and interactive acoustic music. $5/family suggested donation. Friday 10-11am. 

Music with Mr. Hoo at the Village Ballroom. Dance, sing, and clap along to funny original songs and classics. $5/family. Friday 11am-12pm. 

Sherazade's Children Stories that Changed the World in SW PDX. Storyteller Will Hornyak shares stories from a variety of traditions and provides engaging presentations to inspire discussion. Free. Friday 7-8:30pm. 

Saturday, January 10th

Paddington Bear Movie Release Party at the Craft Factory in SW PDX. Bring your favorite stuffed animal and make your own Paddington bear craft, listen to a Paddington storytime, and have your picture taken with the bear himself. $12. Saturday 9am-1pm. 

Family Day at the Washington County Museum. Learn about early naturalist David Douglas, make a botanical sketch, learn with The Bug Chicks, and more. Free. Saturday 10am-1pm (Bug Chicks at 11am). 

Second Saturday at the Water Center in Vancouver. Learn about where all the stormy water goes after a thunderstorm. Free. Saturday 1-3pm.

How to Train a Dragon in Fairview. Theresa Snyder, author ofThe Farloft Chronicles, helps celebrate Appreciate a Dragon Day with storytelling, a coloring concert, and tips for living with your very own dragon. Free. Saturday 3-4pm. 

Kiepenkasper Puppet Show in NE PDX. Northern puppeteer Uwe Spillmann will perform several vignettes using specially handmade puppets. $3/person. Saturday 3-4:30pm. 

Second Saturday Family Dance in SW PDX. Fun dancing for kids and families with live music. Amy Carroll will be calling. $6 adults, $5 kids, $20/family max. Saturday 4:30-6:30pm. 

Sunday, January 11th

Family Tour at the Portland Art Museum. Explore the museum with a docent skilled at engaging visitors of all ages. Free with admission and free for children aged 17 and younger. Sunday 12:30-1:30pm. 

Crystal Ballroom's 101st Birthday Free-For-All in SW PDX. Music begins at 1 pm with a "You Who" Children's Rock Variety Show, followed by DJs, face painting, and balloons. Free. Sunday beginning at 1pm. 

The Not-Its! with The Alphabeticians in NE PDX. Portland's own The Alphabeticians open for Seattle kindie rock sensations The Not Its! at The Village Ballroom. $7/children; 2 and under free. Sunday 3:30-5pm.
