WEEKEND WARRIORS - JULY 25-27, 2014

Friday, July 25th
Micah and Me at A Children's Place. Get your music fix at Portland's oldest independently owned children's bookstore. Free! Friday 10:30am.

Flicks on the Bricks at Pioneer Courthouse Square. The Flicks on the Bricks seasons kicks of withGhostbusters (PG) on Friday. Pre-movie entertainment (Lincoln's Beard) begins at 7pm, movie at dusk.

Saturday, July 26th
44th Annual Great Oregon Steam Up in Brooks.  Lots of tractors, cars, and other vehicles to view, plus kids pedal tractor pulling, blacksmithing, and other demonstrations and activities. Saturday and Sunday 7am-6pm. $12/day, kids 12 and under free.


Kids Dig at Fort Vancouver. Kids ages 8-12 excavate a site and discover what we can learn about the past from the artifacts buried underneath. Free with admission. Space is limited and can be reserved ahead or day of. Saturday 10:30am and 2pm.

Balloon City Experiments at Sellwood-Moreland Library. Using balloons and props, Charles and Biscuit the Dog Puppet conduct a silly but sound engineering experiment involving a pulley and then, with the help of the audience, construct a balloon cityscape. Saturday 12-12:45pm. Free!

Cowabunga Chemistry at the Gregory Heights Library. Presented by OMSI, kids can make amazing chemical reactions and discover a bit about polymers. For grades K-5. Saturday at 1pm and 2pm. Free!
 
Sauvie Island Barn Dance & Barbecue. Great food, beer, wine, a silent auction, and of course live music and square dancing. Saturday starting at 4:30pm.  Individual tickets are $30, children under 12 are $5

Portland Festival Symphony at Cathedral Park. Music by Herold, Bizet, Liszt, and others will be performed at this free outdoor concert. Saturday 6pm. Free!

Sunday, July 27th
Woodstock Farmers Market. Tasty fresh food, music you can dance to, kids activities with Art School Studio and PDX Kids Calendar. Sunday 10am-2pm. 
 
Sunday Parkways - NE Portland. 8 miles of city streets are closed off to traffic. Entertainment includes the Alphabeticians, OpsFest Shakespeare, Circus Cascadia, a climbing wall, and much more. Sunday 11am-4pm. Free!

Lents Street Fair. Goats, live music, root beer garden, carnival games, face painting, clowns, and more fun at this annual fair. Parade begins Sunday at 12:15pm and fair starts at 1pm. Free!

The Big Float at Marquam Bridge. People are encouraged to get into the river and support its preservation and healthy development. Post-float entertainment includes live music, food, and a kids area where the Grand Ronde Tribes will present Native American crafts. Sunday 1-6pm. $9.

A Journey Back in Time at the Tigard Library. Be transported to a pioneer settlement with stations set up to pan for gold, scrub clothes, card wool, grind wheat into flour, and play with handmade wooden toys. Sunday 2-4pm. Free!
