WEEKEND WARRIORS - MAY 9-11, 2014

Free Mother's Day Stroller Strides Class & Celebration at #MPFamFaves Jamison Square. Join FIT4MOM Cedar Mill for their annual Mother's Day Celebration at Jamison Square. There will be a free Stroller Strides class, swag bags, raffles prizes, refreshments and fun for all. Friday 9am-noon. Free!

Story Time with Olive and Dingo at Pie Spot. Full of comedy, songs, stories, balloons and laughter, sure to get the jumpers jumping, the dancers dancing, wigglers wiggling and the noise makers cooing. Balloons twisting and fellowship is at the end of the show. Friday 3-4pm. $5 per child for balloons & entertainment

Día del Niño/Día del Libro (Day of Children/Day of the Book) at Clark College. Families are invited to this free, public event that celebrates children, reading and the Latino culture with a bilingual puppet show, Mexican folk dances, crafts and refreshments. Friday 5-8pm. Free!

Kids' Craft Night: Shrinky Dink Monsters at collage in Sellwood. Make a miniature monster family from shrink plastic and pipe cleaners. Not into monsters? They'll have options for other creatures available too. Ages 6+. Advance registration required. Friday 6:30-8:30pm. $20. 



National Train Day at Union Station. Trains of all shapes and sizes from scale models up to the real thing-Amtrak's new Talgo train, an historic Union Pacific caboose and the star of the show the S P & S 700 Steam Locomotive. Kid's activities including the Chuggington Kids Depot, face painting & entertainment by the Rose Festival Character Clown Corps, and live music. Saturday 10am-4pm. Free!

Free Kids Admission at Treemendous Second Saturday. Join the fun and make the perfect gift for Mom at no additional cost, including a hand decorated flower pot planted with fresh flowers, and Mother's Day cards. Crafts and games where kids will learn about trees. Saturday 10:30am and 2pm.

Opening weekend for OCT's Fancy Nancy at the Newmark. Don your most glamorous attire, pour a spot of tea, and join the fun at the most elegant musical of the year "Fancy Nancy!" Nancy and her pals Wanda, Rhonda, Bree, and Lionel are super-excited to be dancing in a school recital. Nancy is sure she will be cast as a shimmering mermaid, but ends up as an ordinary, dreary tree. When Bree lands the coveted role, Nancy realizes that being fancy comes in many forms" all it takes is a dash of imagination, camaraderie, and a little joie de vivre! Best ages 4+. Saturday 2pm and 5pm. Sunday 11am and 2pm. $15-30.

Southside Family Barn Dance in SE Portland. This family-friendly fundraiser is being hosted in the Woodstock neighborhood of SE Portland and includes square dancing with live band, kid crafts, food, beer & wine, face painting, and raffle prizes. And don't miss a chance to meet their special bunny friends visiting from a farm in southern Washington!  Saturday 4-6pm. $5 in advance, $8 at the door.

Run Like a Mother in Hillsboro. Run Like A Mother Portland course runs through the beautiful tree-lined streets of Hillsboro with an outdoor track start and finish. Your family and friends will be able to encourage you as you start and celebrate your accomplishment as you finish! Enjoy the post race party featuring live entertainment. Sunday 8:30am. $40, $15 kids

Celebrate Mother's Day with Tillamook & The Timbers. Join Tillamook this Mother's Day for a special Portland Timbers pre-game celebration in front of Providence Park. Stop by for free Tillamook ice cream bars (aka Tillabars), coupons and other special activities, including Tillabar piñatas. Take a swing for the chance to win extra prizes! Sunday 8:30am-noon. Free!

Make it a Mimosa Mother's Day. Celebrate the joy of motherhood at Mimosa Studios. Give yourself and others the ultimate Mother's Day treat. Relax among friends, family and fellow painters, and paint your heart away. They will be serving complementary juice, mimosas, cookies, tea and coffee.  There are three seating times available. 10:00 am – Noon; 12:30 – 2:30 pm and 3:00 – 5:00 pm. East Portland Sunday Parkways. Whether walking, biking, rolling or dancing along the route, take time to stop by Glenwood, Bloomington, and Ed Benedict Parks for a spot of food, vendors, music & more. 7 miles. Sunday 11am-4pm. Free!

Bully Project Staged Reading at Winningstad Theatre. As part of Oregon Children's Theatre's Bully Project competition, middle school students (6-8th grade) from Oregon and Washington have written original, 10-minute plays about bullying. Six finalists were selected by a panel of classroom teachers, members of the OCT Young Professionals Company, and OCT staff. These six final scripts will be featured at this public staged reading. Sunday 5pm. Pay what you will.
