WEEKEND WARRIORS - MAY 30-June 1, 2014

Ladybug Nature Walks at Westmoreland Park. Explore nature in Portland parks with trained naturalists. For ages 2-5 with grown-up. Stroller friendly. Friday 10am. $4 per preschooler, no charge for adults.

Art in the Garden at Little Garden Studio in Vancouver. A free form art and nature opportunity for all ages to come and create. Art supplies in various mediums will be provided throughout the space for artists and crafters to enjoy, or bring your own supplies for yourself or to share. Come draw, paint, read, write, garden, mold clay, knit ... each week offerings will vary. Parents are required to supervise children and are encouraged to participate. Rain or shine. Feel free to bring a snack. Friday 10-11:30am, 3-4:30pm, Saturday 10-11am. A suggested donation of $5 per child is appreciated.

Music with Mr. Hoo at Village Ballroom. Mr. Hoo (one half of The Alphabeticians), plays fun music for kids and their grown-ups. He plays guitar and kazoo, and sings songs that get the audience clapping and moving and singing along. He's the Village Ballroom (sponsored by Woodlawn Swap 'n Play) every Friday at 11am. $5/family.

Rose Festival CityFair at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. Rose Festival overtakes Waterfront Park with rides, games, exhibits, food, and entertainment in the RoZone. Other highlights include the Rose Festival Museum, Walk on the Wild Side, and more. Weekends May 29-June 1, June 5-8. $7. Season Passes are available at Fred Meyer Stores.

Kids' Craft Night: Loom Bands (ages 6+) at collage in Sellwood. Drop off the kids for a night of crafting fun. This week the kiddos will learn the basics to the loom band phenomenon while making some fun accessories. This is for kids 6 and older. Friday 6:30-8:30pm. $20. Advanced registration is required.

Free Family Fishing in Gresham. Designed to introduce young people and their families to fishing. ODFW will hand out rods, reels, tackle and bait to youngsters who are learning to fish or do not have their own gear. Participants are welcome to bring their own equipment if they prefer. Angling instructors will be on site to provide assistance on everything from gearing up and casting to landing and cleaning fish. Saturday 9am-2pm. Free ages 0-13.

Last chance for Queen Melissa Tea Cruise on the Portland Spirit. Join Queen Melissa, Queen of Maybeland from the beloved radio show and children´s book, The Cinnamon Bear, for a high tea cruise with her most loyal subjects. Join Queen Melissa and her Maybeland Fairies for an enchanting afternoon filled with activities fit for a king or queen. Make sure to dress in your royal best. This is the last cruise for 2014. Saturday 11:30am-2pm. $30 adults, $22 children.

Final weekend of Oregon Children's Theatre's Fancy Nancy! The Musical at the Newmark Theatre. Don your most glamorous attire, pour a spot of tea, and join us for the most elegant musical of the year "Fancy Nancy!" Nancy and her pals Wanda, Rhonda, Bree, and Lionel are super-excited to be dancing in a school recital. Nancy is sure she will be cast as a shimmering mermaid, but ends up as an ordinary, dreary tree. When Bree lands the coveted role, Nancy realizes that being fancy comes in many forms and all it takes is a dash of imagination, camaraderie, and a little joie de vivre! Best ages 4+. Based on the book by Jane O'Connor. Saturday 2pm and 5pm, Sunday 11am and 2pm. $15-$30

Rose Festival Starlight Parade Downtown. This glittering illuminated night-time parade lights up downtown. Come see for yourself the twinkling floats, drill teams & marching bands, glow-in-the-dark umbrellas and unique hand-built entries. You'lll see the best of Portland's diverse community groups (and surrounding Northwest region) together in one whimsical pageant. Saturday starting at 8:30pm. Free!

$2 Sunday at OMSI. Explore the museum and all exhibits for just $2 per person on the first Sunday of every month. Featured exhibit Dinosaurs Unearthed is included with admission. Submarine Tours, Theater and Planetarium shows are also reduced to $5 per person, or less with applicable discounts. Parking $3. Sunday 9:30am-5:30pm.

Summer Reading Kick-Off Carnival at Tualatin Library. Celebrate the start of Summer Reading with a fun free carnival for all ages! Play carnival games, watch a magic show, get a balloon creation and more. And of course, sign up for the Summer Reading Program and get a free book!. Sunday 2-4pm. Free!

Red Yarn's The Deep Woods' TV Pilot Fundraiser Show at Village Ballroom. Red will perform with his full band with an opening set by Tallulah's Daddy and Pointed Man Band. Sunday 3:30-5:30pm. $10 in advance/$12 at the door (babies in arms are free). Ticket proceeds go to help fund Red Yarn's 'Deep Woods' TV pilot. Attendees can also contribute by participating in a raffle, pre-ordering DVDs, and buying Red Yarn merch (including brand new t-shirts).
