Family Friday Concert with Whistlin' Rufus at The Community Music Center. A volunteer-run series of once-a-month low-cost concerts for children & families. All Family Friday concerts start at 7:15 pm and run about an hour (no intermission). Admission is free, with suggested donation of $5 per person or $15 for a family. Doors open at about 6:45 pm.
West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta at Tualatin Commons. Watch huge pumpkin "boats" race, music, pie eating & costume contests, more. Saturday 10am-4pm. Free!
Guided Nature Hike - Clever Coyote at Tryon Creek. Venture out with a park guide for a free, nature hike to explore the forest and stream ecosystems and natural history at Tryon Creek State Natural Area. Saturday 10-11:30am. Free!
Story Time with Matthew Porter at Powell's Burnside. Storytime featuring Monkey World: The Thunderbolt Express. What begins as a pleasant journey for a group of monkey passengers soon goes wrong when the engineer sees that a bridge is out and snaps the brake handle while trying to stop the train. Saturday 11am-noon. Free!
The SWCC's Monster Mash. Get into the spirit and dance with other sociable ghouls, make creepy crafts, and play bewitching games that only come out once a year! Saturday 4-6pm and 6:30-8:30pm. Registration encouraged. $10 in advance, $12 door.
The Cafe au Play Sundown Soirée is a wine and dessert fundraiser that will benefit the expansion of the Cafe au Play Barista Training Program. It will feature live traditional Irish & folk music, a wide assortment of local desserts, wine and beer and a 50/50 cash raffle. Proceeds from ticket sales will raise the initial funds for the expansion. Tickets are $25.00 per person. Do Jump! Family Workshop and Greasy Kids Stuff Dance Party at Echo Theater. Swing, tumble, and explore physical theater in a Do Jump! workshop with your kids, parents, and friends from 1:30-2:45. Then join the dance party with Greasy Kids Stuff from 3-5pm. Pre-registration is encouraged as workshop may fill quickly. Sunday. Prices vary.
Jr. Roller Derby bout at the Hangar at Oaks Park. The Rosebuds are a full contact ranked junior league for the Rose City Rollers - Portland's all female flat track roller derby league. The Rosebuds players range in age from 13-17 years old, and these girls are awesome - at skating, hitting, and playing an amazing game of roller derby on the track. At 2 pm on Sunday October 20th, it's a hard-hitting afternoon of junior derby action, as two Rosebuds teams battle it out: the Little Red Riveters play against the Rainbow Bites! Sugar Skulls (Calaveritas de Azúcar) at Fairview-Columbia Library. Learn about the Day of the Dead celebration and its traditions. Participants will paint their own edible sugar skull and dedicate it to an ancestor or loved one. Sunday 3-4:45pm. Free!
Red Yarn Album Release Show at Village Ballroom. Red Yarn will perform songs from "The Deep Woods" with a 7-piece band and guest puppeteers. Professional storyteller Will Hornyak and other special guests will open up the event at 3:30pm, and Red Yarn and his band will take the stage from 4:30-5:30pm. Sunday. $5/walking person.
