First Friday at Art ala Carte, sponsored by PDX Kids Calendar. Enjoy open studio at Art ala Carte every First Friday of the month on donation basis only. No studio fee all day! You choose how little or how much you want to donate! You can make monetary donations or bring in art supplies/recycled goodies or art related books. Most needed this month: shoe boxes, small wood pieces, feathers, stickers, hot glue sticks, tempra paint, glitter, pom poms, happy meal toys, jewelry and beads, game boards and pieces. Swift Watch at Chapman School. Watch thousands of Vaux's swifts swirl into the chimney at Chapman School. Audubon Society has info table most nights. Evenings through September 30th. Free! Please be courteous guests! Parking is very limited.
Vulture Day at the Audubon Society. Meet Ruby, Portland Audubon's Turkey Vulture, up close, make a crafted vulture and mask, learn fun vulture facts, discover why vultures are important, make a pledge to help vultures survive, and more! Saturday 11am-3pm. Free!
Once Upon a Time Family Theatre presents Rumplestiltskin in SE PDX. A magical mix of theatrical simplicity and grand storytelling for kids and their families. Saturday noon. $1 for children, $2 for adults.
Barnehage: Norwegian Language Playtime at Norse Hall. A fun way for children ages 2-8 to learn Norwegian. Snacks are not provided, but you may bring your own. Saturday 1-2pm. Suggested donation of $5 per child.
Lumberjack Breakfast at World Forestry Center. Eat great food while supporting the World Forestry Center. Grab your pancakes and head toward the toppings bar to personalize those flapjacks with everything from chocolate chips to coconut shavings. They'll throw in some eggs and sausage and make sure you have enough coffee, tea, or juice to wash it all down. Price also includes admission into the Discovery Museum where there will be fun activities and exhibits for the whole family. Sunday 9am-1pm. $12 adults, $5 ages 0-12.
Curious Garden at the Curious Comedy Theater. Come see old friends Razzie the Fairy, Daisy the Flower and Jojo the Lawnjockey - and meet the new garden friends Ribbit the Frog, Dottie the Ladybug and Flappy the Chicken! The Curious Garden is a show for all ages - especially kids 0-8. Sunday 10:30-11:30am. $5 suggested donation.
Second Sunday at Cathlapotle Plankhouse in Ridgefield. Children's activities, Plankhouse tours, and displays highlighting other First Foods of the Columbia River will be available. The Cathlapotle Plankhouse is a full- scale replica Chinookan Plankhouse located on the Carty Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. Sunday noon-4pm. $3 vehicle fee.
