Music Class with Mo Phillips at The Treehouse. Mo has devised a fine, distiller music blend of americana! Soul and blues In his secret ninja laboratory and is not afraid of a poppy hook, or straight rocking' out! Friday 10am. $5/child.
Build-A-Terrarium Workshop at Floare. Participants are guided to choose a container,select the type of plant, then design and install a lovely little world. Floare has soil, rocks, sand, moss,shells, dinosaurs, ladybugs, and many other decorative accents from which to choose. Saturday 10am-noon. $15/participant. No registration necessary, first-come, first-served.
Oregon Pacific Railroad Train Rides. Passenger train rides between Oaks Amusement Park and East Portland (near OMSI) and back. Round trip rides last approximately an hour and take guests along the Willamette River, through the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge. Train departs Oaks Park on the hour and departs the Oregon Rail Heritage Center on the half hour. Saturday noon-6pm. $5.
$2 days at OMSI. Explore the museum for only $2 per person the first Sunday of every month. Sunday 9:30am-5:30pm.
Portland Roots Festival at Pioneer Courthouse Square. The event will highlight the food practices of African-American, Afro-Caribbean, Afro- Latin, and African Diaspora populations of Portland, Oregon. It will feature dozens of food vendors, micro- entrepreneurs, artists and performers, youth activities, and a key note speech from Will Allen, founder and CEO of Growing Power, Inc. Sunday noon-8pm. Free!
Swift Watch at Chapman School. Watch thousands of Vaux's swifts swirl into the chimney at Chapman School. Audubon Society has info table most nights. Evenings through September 30th. Free! Please be courteous guests! Parking is very limited.
