Bring in your family, friends, and a pumpkin for a night of messy fun at the Mt. Scott Community Center. Paint your pumpkin with a cat, ghost, or whatever you want! Friday from 6 to 8. Free! For other fall fun ideas, check out PDX Kids Calendar’s compilation of fall activities here.
The Community Music Center’s Family Friday Concert Series kicks off with a bang on Friday with the folksy/bluegrassy tunes of Whistlin' Rufus. Show starts at 7:15. Admission is free, with a $5 suggested donation per person or $15/family.
The 25th
Apple Tasting at Portland Nursery is this weekend and next, Friday through
Sunday from 10 to 5. Activities over the weekend include cooking
demonstrations, face painting, crafts, hula hoops, and a scavenger hunt.

The 8th Annual Wordstock Festival is this Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 6 at the Convention Center. PDX Kids Calendar is hosting PDX Kids Calendar Story Land, which is chock full of fun and educational activities for the kids. Create, craft, color, write, bind, pose, reuse, and more. Wordstock is free for kids 0 to 13 and $7 for adults.
Saturday from 10 to 1 is Family Day at the Washington County Museum. This month celebrate Diwali, the Indian celebration of light, with painting, dance workshops, and other fun craft activities. Free!
It's a hike, but may be worth the drive to the Coast for the Lincoln City Fall Kite Festival. The weekend includes featured flyers, family friendly-activities like kite making, a kid's kite parade, and more. Saturday from 10 to 8:30 and Sunday from 10 to 4.
Join artist Sarah Ferguson at the North Portland Library on Saturday from 11 to 1 for Mask Exploration. Your child can create right, colorful masks using recycled and found objects. Free!
The Kennedy School celebrates its 15th Birthday on Saturday with live music and kids activities. Musicians include Uncle B & Auntie E & J Dog. Festivities start at 2. Free!
This weekend is the first weekend of the 2012 Salmon Homecoming at Oxbow. Activities like salmon viewing, walks, rafting, and other activities will be available at various times this weekend and next. Check the website for the full schedule.
On Sunday at 10, head to The Warehouse a new, free art hour with Azure and her toddler, Violet. Art-themed story time and self-directed drawing for the kids, coffee for the adults.
