Earth Day is on Sunday, and in true Portland form there are plenty of events that allow you and your family to celebrate our planet all throughout the weekend. PDX Kids Calendar has compiled a list here of volunteer opportunities, arts & crafts, and other nature celebrations.
Penny the Puppeteer is celebrating 10 years of family fun with her Jubilation Celebration at the Off Broadway Central Lutheran Church on Friday at 10:30. $5/person.
Can't get enough puppets? Check out Tears of Joy Theater's production of Stellaluna at the Winningstad Theatre. Showtimes throughout the weekend. Tickets are $17-20.
Check out Henna for Teens at the Hollywood Library on Saturday at 2:30. In this hands-on cultural art program, artist Raina Imig will share information on the art of henna in India, and will create a brief, authentic, intricate henna design on your hand. Free!
Libraries across Portland and surrounding areas are celebrating Dia de los Ninos y Dia de los Libros - a celebration of childhood and bilingual literacy, complete with music, crafts, and special activities. Check it out at the Kenton Library on Saturday at 11; the Troutdale Library on Saturday at 2; or the Midland Library Sunday at 2. Free!
Lots of great admission offers are happening this weekend. Enjoy free admission to the Oregon Historical Society while learning about and creating kites on Saturday from 11 to 3.
You can also get free admission to the Oregon Maritime Museum and explore a historic steam-powered tug on Saturday from 11 to 4.
And get free admission to Fort Vancouver all week beginning this Saturday in honor of National Park Week. 12 to 5 on Sunday, and 9 to 5 all other days.
Celebrate crows at Tryon Creek on Sunday from 2 to 4. This free event includes hiking and crow-related activities. Pre-registration is required.
Head to Green Bean Books on Sunday at 2 to meet with Oregon Poet Laureate Paulann Peterson and to hear a kids poetry reading. Free!
Sunday is the last day to visit the historic Jantzen Beach Carousel. Head on over to take a final ride and take some pictures.
