When I look at the date, I am aghast. When it turns August it is almost September. When it turns September, it's time for back-to-school. I guess it is almost that time, as our in-box has recently been inundated with various back-to-school solicitations/offers: prepared snack/lunch foods, this season's must-have clothing/backpack item, new water bottles as another must-have for school, where to get the most bang for your buck for the school supplies. STOP! For now, it is *still* summer. Let's get out there an enjoy!
Did you know Wine Unwind offers free kids movies on Fridays at noon? You can even call beforehand and see what the movie selection is, and there may even be an opportunity to make a special request.
This summer, Portland Festival Symphony celebrates its 30th season of presenting free classical music concerts in Portland public parks throughout the city. Comprised of Portland's finest classical musicians, the symphony is funded solely through the generous support of individuals, local businesses and sponsors. This weekend, a 6pm show on Saturday at Cathedral Park and a 6pm show on Sunday at Peninsula Park.
Portland Parks & Recreation and their generous sponsors bring us free Movies in the Park again this summer. Entertainment starts at 6:30 and showtime is at dark. "Pretty in Pink" on Friday at Colonel Summers Park, "Guys and Dolls" on Saturday at Laurelhurst Park, "Avatar" on Sunday at Sellwood Park.
the The Haitian Project Garage Sale, at The Madeleine Parish, And remember, all proceeds from garage sale support the Louverture Cleary School in Haiti, helping children from the poorest sections of Haiti receive a free private education.The parish center is packed with treasures, collectibles and bargains galore. Friday, July 30th, 9 AM - 3 PM, Saturday, July 31st, 9 AM - 3 PM, Sunday, August 1st, 9 AM - 1 PM. Sunday is half-price day, where our already great bargains are irresistible.
A new parenting group with a mission of supporting diversity began meeting in Northeast in spring. A Mama Like Me brings women of all ages together to learn from one another, as well as to support new moms after the flurry of childbirth. The group hosts a yard sale on Saturday, 5928 N.E. 12th Ave., 9am to 4pm. Maternity clothes, kids clothes to age 10, household goods, baked goods and face painting.
World Breastfeeding Week kicks off on Sunday, August 1. From 10am to 3pm at Jamison Square, there will be bubbles, facepainting, and lactation consultants. Don't forget, The Big Latch On is this Friday, August 6th!
There are two Sunday Farmer's Markets on the eastside that run through October. Parkrose Farmers Market Sunday Edition from June 6th from 9am-2pm find us at NE 131st Pl & NE Sandy Blvd. Lents International Farmers Market, 2010 Season: June 6 through October 17 from 9am to 2pm every Sunday, located at SE 92nd and Foster in the Lents neighborhood.
