Seeking Vancouver, WA-based Pediatrician
While our pediatrician recommendation archive is stocked with suggestions all throughout the Portland-proper area, it seems we could use more suggestions in the outer areas. An urbanMama recently emailed to request suggestions:
I am contemplating finding a new pediatrician for my daughters, as we've moved from SE Portland to Vancouver. Trouble is, I can not find any reviews or recommendations on peds in my area. I chose our current pediatrician based on Urban Mama reviews, and would appreciate to hear from anyone who recommends someone in my current area. We're located near the Fisher's Landing/Camas area.

I was hoping to take my daughter to Dr Kevin Hatcher-Ross, a pediatrician at the Vancouver Clinic (700 NE 87th). Unfortunately, our insurance didn't cover that clinic. One reason I chose him was because he seemed to have respect for both western and eastern medicine.
That said, choosing a pediatrician can be a very personal process...What is ideal for our family may not be ideal for another

We love Dr. Kate Wiggin in Vancouver, I wouldn't take my little guy toanyone else! Look her up online or email me for her number.

If you have Kaiser insurance, they offer a quick bio of all the pediatricians in vancouver. From that we chose Dr. Black, and couldn't be happier.

Dr. Ted Chaplain at the Family Physicians Group in Fishers Landing is awesome. He's a Family Medicine physician. I can't say enough great things about him!

Well, I know I'm not the best at picking a pediatrician but maybe it's the office staff/nurses/MA's that I am having a bigger problem with. My three year has already experienced three medication errors in her short life. The first was a Hep B vaccine that we explicitly said we were waiting until later and guaranteed the doc that she would not do IV drugs or have sex until then;O) She got the 1st shot at 6 months:O( I was really disappointed in how the office manager dealt with the error. She basically said it wasn't a big deal. You do a medication error in my hospital and it starts a significant investigative process and rightly so.
We switched doc's partially because we moved to the west side. At our first visit I informed our new doc of the incident and how disappointed I was. Well, then at my little girl's 3 year check up she got an extra dose of Hep A and another vaccine. They caught their own error and said it was due to their electronic charting and the need to check numerous locations. I asked for a copy of her vaccine records so we could do a better part on our end. Well, the chart they sent was incomplete! Still have yet to hear about this one...I need to call them.
So I guess my thoughts are, and this might be quite the challenge, but check with the office manager re: medication errors and policies dealing with them.
Good luck.

I have had great experiences (5+ years) with Evergreen Pediatrics in Vancouver - great team of doctors and nurses and always someone helpful available to talk to.

I too have recently moved to the Vancouver/Camas area and am looking for a new Ped/family physician for my 3 1/2 and 2 mo. old. If anyone has any recommendations they would be appreciated! I am looking for a dr. willing to work with me on delayed vacc. and a more natural approach to medicine.

I second the vote for Dr David Black at the Vancouver Kaiser clinic - He's my preceptor this term, for school, and he's pretty great

Would you Mama's say these Ped's are AP friendly-ish? As in, they are supportive of extended breastfeeding, no-vax or delay vax, babywearing, natural birth, out of hospital birth, etc? I am now on the hunt for a Vancouver based ped that is similar to our current (and fav) ped Dr Monique Pritchard @ Sellwood Clinic. THANKS!!!

I'm also looking for a Peds who is very supportive of Holistic medicine, & supportive in not vaccinating in the Vancouver area. We live in the Orchards area but are willing to drive to any area in Vancouver to find the right Ped! Thanks for your help!

Has anyone had any success finding a pediatrician in Vancouver supportive of not vaccinating or delaying vaccination? Thanks!

Whatever you do, DO NOT go to the Vancouver Clinic Salmon Creek. I have now had multiple errors in my daughters vaccinations and their Customer Service Director was completely oblivious to my concerns. Except for her patronizing repetitive statement of them having exceptional safety standards in place (which mind you i was told the first time this occurred). Hence, this doesn't hold much ground and shame on me for not trusting my instincts the first time and staying with them under a new dr within the same clinic. The downside is we did have one very good doctor there but i no longer have any confidence left in the safety protocols or the support staff at the clinic. I know when i'm at the doctors with my sick child the last thing I want to be worrying about is whether i can you trust them that they are handling the situation with the utmost care. Good luck and i'm also on the search for a competent pediatrician on the westside!

Hi All,
Figured I'd ask the question again in case any of you Mamas out there have found a pediatrician that supports delayed vaccinations and a more natural approach in general in the Vancouver area. I'm due in a couple of weeks and it would be awesome to have someone to list as her pediatrician!
