Seeking Eye Doc Recommendations, SE

Anne writes:

I want to get my son's eyes checked out after a few comments he's made lately. Does anyone have any recommendations for an optometrist who is good with little kids? Someone downtown or in close-in SE Portland would be ideal.

Hawthorne Vision (43rdish and Hawthorne)has a guy who sees kids. I don't remember his name, but he did a good job with mine. I go there for my own care as well.

My uncle is an awesome eye doctor! He is sweet, fun, great with kids, and has a big aquarium full of interesting fish that I always found fascinating as a child. His name is Bruce Breckenridge and his info is here: http://goldbamboo.com/yp-ype3456623.html

We go to Hawthorne Vision - they were able to diagnose my son's amblyopia 5 years ago and recommend a specialist to treat it. I go there for my regular exams and have always had a good experience.

We have had good luck with Dr. Aaby - who has a way cool name (Aazy A. Aaby, MD). He also does Northwest Medical volunteering and is generally a very patient man. I've got a genetic eye condition that I wanted to make sure I hadn't passed down, so he actually did GREAT screenings on my two boys at age 2. He specializes in pediatrics and it shows.

I like his support staff too.
They might not be close enough in for you though...

Good luck.

My son sees Dr. Aaby as well and we are very happy with him. I would agree he's very patient and is great with kids. Plus he has a great playroom at his location in NW Portland.

Good luck.

My son was diagnosed with pseudostrabismus by Dr. Karr at the Casey Eye Institute at OHSU. He was amazing with my son. I can't say enough good things about him and I would highly recommend him. It was important to me that he went to a children's specialist since we wasn't even 2 at the time. It was definitely worth it. Good luck to you and your child - hopefully it's nothing, just as ours was.

My 9 1/2 month old son just had surgery to correct crossing/lazy eyes up at the Elk's Children's Eye Clinic at OHSU. Our doctor is Dr. Reznick. She is kind, courteous, caring, and very sweet with my baby. I highly recommend you check out OHSU's children's eye clinic. Hope all turns out well.

Our child starting wearing glasses at two. We go to Dr. Shawn Goodman, who is in Lake Oswego. It is well worth the trip. She and her staff are fantastic.
