Birthing Tub Rental
Grace is planning a home birth, but would like to rent a birthing tub. Interesting question, can you help? She emails:
I was wondering if there is any place in Portland that rents birth tubs for a home birth? I have only heard waterbirth.org but I'm curious if there is a place local so I could avoid paying such a high shipping & handling cost.

if you get a tub from waterbirth.org and pick it up yourself (I think in tualatin? one of the suburbs) and then return it after the birth there is no shipping and handling charge.

A friend of mine borrowed one from NW Community Midwives even though she had a different midwife attending her homebirth. She did take her childbirth classes there, though, so maybe that was her connection. It might be worth a phone call to see.

Check this out: it's only $25 pre-shipping and when you're done you have a great kiddie pool! I've had a few friends use this as their birthing tub and said it was great. Fancy pumps & heaters are unnecessary I guess. I found this website while looking for myself, but I've been told you can get them at Fred Meyer or other all-in-one stores like that.

I think that Susan and Celeste of NW Community Midwives have rented out one of their tubs IF they do not have a mom in need at the same time. It wouldn't hurt to ask. I tried to put a link but their web site is not working or someting. Here is their contact info:
