Art Classes on Saturday?
My 4.5 year old daughter loves art. And we've been searching for a saturday art class for her. But everything I find is during the week. Drats. Does anyone know of a great weekend art class? We live in SW but are close in so east side is easy too. Thank you!!

Hi!
You might want to try The 100th Monkey Sudio. It is around SE 16th and Ankeny.
Really great space and sooo fun for the kids!
I Think they have classes or drop- in's on Saturdays.

My 7 and 5 year old have taken several terms at Pacific Northwest College of Art ( http://www.pnca.edu/programs/ce/youth/ ). They have classes Sat. morning or afternoon, for ages 4 and up. Lots of different media, and they have a little gallery showing at the end of the term. The kids think it's really cool that they get to go to college, and seem to take their work more seriously in this setting, while still having fun.

Also try Oregon College of Art and Craft. We just did an amazing 4 week class there with metal working, felting - it was very cool. It was called Art Starts. I've also heard of Ano's Art, but know nothing beyond that.

The Southwest Community Center (Portland Public Parks) has a few Saturday classes related to the holidays. We just made ghost and spider hangings next month is something for Thanksgiving. Most of the community centers have something too.

The Multnomah Arts Center offers a few Saturday classes too. The classes offer an opportunity to make art using 4 or 5 different mediums each time.

We have taken classes at the Multnomah Art Center and were very happy. The class available for our little ones wasn't focused or organized but the kids were exposed to different medium and allowed to do whatever they chose. We all loved it. Also great because they are involved in the cleanup as well which I find important. Good luck.

The Museum of Contemporary Craft offers Family Discovery Sundays on the last Sunday of each month. You can drop in any time between 1:00 and 4:00.

My 2.5 year old took a class at My Masterpiece Art Studio called Mini Masters. Although he was too young for the class, I was SO IMPRESSED. It was a fantastic class, a wonderful space and is run by two mamas! I only met one but she was very helpful and kind.
The children paint on canvas for the class. It's a little pricey but you definitely get what you pay for! It was a beautiful presentation, with a story, music and instruction by a real calm, sweet mama.
Afterward we stayed for open studio. You buy paper packages and then can use all their materials for as long as you want to stay.
I can't recommend My Masterpiece Studio enough. And it's in SW! Lucky you, it's a long drive for us but we love it! My son is giving his Aunt a gift certificate to My Masterpiece for xmas so they can go together. He loves going as much as I do:)
