What's your favorite PP&R Class?

Summer is screeching to an end as we catapult into fall.  Last week, we received Portland Parks & Recreation's Fall Class Schedule at our local community centers (we love Portland Parks & Rec!).  We'd love to hear from urbanMamas which classes you love (and for which age group) and which community centers you love.  What are you signing up for - either for yourself or for the kids - this fall?

I highly recommend the class called Music, Marching, and Make Believe which is offered at both Dishman and Sellwood. We've finally outgrown the class, but we enrolled 3 consecutive times!
The teacher, Jane Lancaster, is SO GREAT with the kids (ages 2-3).
It's 45 minutes of different things to keep them busy and very engaged....songs, instruments, relays, dancing, art, etc.
Sign up early, as it always fills up!

We also LOVE portland parks and rec. I love the music babies class for my baby, we think their swimming lessons are great and very reasonable, martial arts, basketball classes...pretty much anything that gets my 7 year old moving in the rainy months is terrific! It is a very reasonable way to try out new things!

I have a 7 year old and a two year old and couldn't possibly count all the PPR classes we've done. The highlight for sure is Teacher Tori at Mt. Scott (and maybe Woodstock) She does the baby sing-a-long and music marching and make believe. She is the most fun, crazy, energetic lady and the kids just love her! She does a group sing a long and fingerplays in the beginning and then lets the kids loose with rhthym instruments and always plays really interesting music for them to play along with. She dances around with the kids and makes it a fun (not cheesy) experience every time.

We've done Music Marching and Make Believe, Wiggle and Giggle, Balls Balls Balls, Beanbags Balls and Balloons, Music Exploring Together, and some of the tumbling classes. We loved them ALL!!

If I had one complaint, it's that some of the classes are not long enough. Getting dressed and ready and going out for a 25 minute class is sometimes kind of a bummer. We always tried to find two classes back to back to make the morning full with activity.

We're currently signed up for one of the art classes starting in a few weeks. I can't wait. :)

Well, we're THPRD since we're Washington County but I'll add our experience. Our daughter is 3 and has taken so many classes I can hardly remember them all. This fall we are starting with tumbling. She'll be participating all by herself and the class lasts 50 minutes. I don't know what my son and I will do with ourselves for almost an hour! Others we have enjoyed have been the Pee Wee sports classes. And I can't say enough about Ballet at Garden Home!

Enjoy and stay active! ...mol

The cooking classes and tumbling are big hits with my 3yr old.
Swimming went well this summer and looking forward to indoor playgym and art classes!!

We love Portland Parks & Rec as well. We have been going to Dishman since we moved to Portland 4 years ago. We've done Twirling 2s and 3s there maybe 3 times. The fall classes culminated in a recital at the Mt. Scott Community Center. I think they do try to do annual recitals at one of the community centers. We've also done pre-ballet at Dishman and Peninsula. We have thought that the Dishman instructor to be a little bit less strict/stringent.

Swimming classes at Dishman have been great also, and our almost-7-year old has progressed from Penguin to Sea Lion in the past year. We are considering Columbia Pool this fall, maybe to just visit another community center.

The closest community center for us is Peninsula, and I often feel like the majority of the kids classes are during the day when working mamas can't take their tykes to the classes.

BUT, Peninsula does offer a mama-n-me belly dancing class that intrigues me....
