Buying Local: Organic Mattress
Lara is in search of a local store that carries organic mattresses. Are you aware of any?
I would like to buy an organic crib mattress for my daughter who will be moving into a crib soon. I know you can order them online but I would prefer to go to a store so I can see it first. Does anyone know of such a store in Portland and if not, any recommendations for ones purchased online?

I bought mine from a place in Northern Cali called Organic Grace (http://www.organicgrace.com/). It does take some time as they hand make them when the order comes in. I have been very happy with it though and if you are interested in looking at it please let me know and I will post my contact info. :-)

Also, I'm pretty sure you can get them at Mother Nature's on 26th and Clinton. Locally owned and really cute. I always get Asher's shoes there.

I can vouch for Earthsake, a Berkeley, CA, company. I bought my daughter's big girl bed from them online and it's fabulous. They have different types of mattresses as well as crib mattresses. It's comfortable, well-made and I love that she's not sleeping on a bed steeped in fire-retardant chemicals.

Thanks ladies for the info. I will phone Mother Nature monday. Melissa.....I have checked out organic grace before and just had another look...I like them as they ship for free. What I wanted to know is if you got the standard mattress (the one with springs)or the latex one?

For future reference for anyone interested in an organic mattress. I thought I would check out a futon company and found that Cotton Cloud on NE Broadway (503 335 0758) does an organic crib mattress from $170 to $280 depending on how thick you want it etc. I think she said they start at 6 inches thick. I think I will go this route as you can usually have it restuffed if you want to use it for another baby/have a major spill etc for alot less than you originally paid for it.

Sorry to take so long to reply. I did end up with the one with the innerspring and find it to be very comfortable (yes I spend a lot of time on it myself!). We had a standard mattress that came with the crib for a couple of weeks and when the organic mattress finally arrived I was amazed at the difference. It is very comfortable.
I am glad you found something locally - happy safe sleeping!
