Adoptive Parents Group?
uMamas, have any suggestions on resources for Dara and other adoptive families?
I'm wondering if there are groups of adoptive parents who meet with some frequency in and around Portland? I recently moved to PDX with my family and while we are slowly tapping into the local community in our SE neighborhood (Woodstock), I haven't yet come across adoptive families or resources for them. I'm curious if there are adoptive Mom's and Dad's out there who meet or are interested in meeting on occasion either as part of a playgroup (our son is 20 mos old) or as a community of parents. Anyone interested in connecting can email me directly at dwestling@gmail.com.

Hello,
Welcome to Portland! Here are some links to groups and organizations here in Portland
1. Northwest Adoptive Families Association (NAFA) – “all volunteer support group for adoptive families and those interested in adoption” www.nafaonline.org/index.asp
2. Oregon Post Adoption Resource Center (ORPARC) – “an information and referral service for Oregon DHS adoptive and assisted guardianship families.” Unfortunately this resource is only for state adoptive families but they have a great resource list of support groups on their website www.orparc.org and the link for support groups is www.orparc.org/support/metro.html
3. Adoption Mosaic – an organization I co-founded that provides adoption education, resources and support to people touched by adoption and to the broader community www.adoptionmosaic.org
4. Coalition of Oregon Adoption Agencies (COAA) – I also know some agencies have groups that welcome others even if they did not adopted through their agency. Here is the link to the list of all the adoption agencies in Oregon www.oregonadoptionagencies.org/
I hope this is helpful,
~ Astrid
