Where's your Santa?
We've had tons of discussion lately about photography for holiday cards or gifts, but we haven't talked yet about the Big Man in Red, Mr. S. Claus. Will you do photos with him? If so, where? Liz asks:
Hello - It's my son's first holiday season & I want to do the Santa photo - any suggestions on a "good Santa" to go to?

Try Nordstrom. We had great luck with one of their stores in California for years. We even went back 12 years later when we had our second child to find the same fantastic Santa with a real beard! Call ahead to get the hours and days. They usually do a Polaroid photo for a couple dollars and you can bring your own camera and take others. No long line or overpriced photos.
We went to the Kennedy School Santa Breakfast last weekend for our second time. Same great Santa as last year. They sell out fast...put it on your calendar for next year. Its a little pricey, but you get a pretty good all you can eat breakfast and a great, non mall environment.
Enjoy baby's first Christmas!

This was posted in the Southeast Examiner and looks like fun. We've walked by many times, but haven't gone it yet. We're planning on taking our two-year-old on Saturday. You mention that it's your child's first holiday season, so not sure if he's into the fire fighter thing yet! But, this might be a great place for toddlers and pre-schoolers.
"Santa on Belmont
Santa will once again be at the Historic Belmont Firehouse, SE 35th & Belmont, Saturday, December 9 from 10 am – 3 pm. Bring your children to see Santa and have a photo taken. Santa will be wearing some fireman gear along with his traditional Santa suit. He will be seated in front of a vintage horse- drawn firetruck.
This event coincides with Safety Saturday at the Historic Belmont Firehouse. The sponsors will be giving away candy canes, safety literature and special discount coupons from participating Belmont merchants. This event is co- sponsored by the Belmont Avenue Business Associaiton (BABA) and the Fire Station Learning Center. (There is a suggested $5 donation. All proceeds benefit the Historic Belmont Firehouse.)"

We are having Breakfast with Santa at McMenamins. It requires a reservation and some money...but apparently it is a chance to have french toast, cocoa and time with Santa, including a photo.

Thanks.
I just went to the Macys downtown & had a great experience no line & the woman taking the pictures was so nice - we kept trying to get my son to smile she took like 20 digital shots... I ended up getting 2 - 5x7s. They came out great!
I'm also going to the Santa at the Belmont Firehouse this Sat.
Ho Ho Ho....

We were out at Nordstrom over the weekend and jolly ol' St. Nick came outta nowhere. The girls asked, "where did all the raindeer go?" I told them they probably all parked up on the rooftop.
Then, moments later, we moseyed over to Pio Sq Mall and we saw ANOTHER Santa, clearly a different one. I told them that the other one was the "real" Santa and that this one was a representative of some sort, like an elf pretending to be a Santa so they can be different places at one time.
I thought a Santa Breakfast would be fun this year, so I just looked up the Kennedy School's breakfast as suggested by Maura above. The events are next weekend, Dec 1-2, and they are sold out! http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=57&id=81&eventid=55780

I never would have guessed I'd have fun at the Jantzen Beach mall, but try this for a winter afternoon. Go ride the carousel til you're dizzy. Buy dinner or bring your own at the food court that's right behind the carousel. And right behind the food court, no line, no waiting, is a very patient Santa and his photo entourage. It was a very trauma free experience. When I told them she didn't have to smile, they switched tactics, and have a picture of her serenely taking a lolly from Santa's hand.

Hey Liz,
Last year we went to the lucky lab in multnomah village. It was a really mellow pancake breakfast w hot chocolate for about 5 bucks. Santa and Mrs. Claus were there and it beat any mall I have had to endure in the past years.
