Portable Boppy?
Many of us urbanMamas are constantly out and about with our little folk. We will often have to change, feed, diaper, nurse our young whenever they need. Asks Cynthia:
I was wondering if any urbanMamas had recommendations on a nursing pillow that is portable. I'd like to find something that works when nursing on the road instead of lugging the boppy pillow around.

I've never used it, but My Brest Friend (I hate that spelling!) makes an inflatable pillow:

Don't know how much lung power it takes to blow up. I wouldn't want to pass out from blowing it up while tending to a hungry baby.
What about an self-inflating thermarest pillow? They aren't as big, but might provide some support:

I have an inflatable Brest friend that I never used. It was a little bit tricky to blow up, but would be helpful if space is an issue when you're in transit, but you can leave it blown up when you get where you're going. Mine is in the box and I'll sell it to you cheap if you're interested, e-mail me.

I had the NoJo pillow. It's rectangular, with a semi-circle cut out. Not huge like a boppy, but plenty big enough, and very comfy. I took that thing on planes, trains and cars. My 3yo uses it as a regular pillow these days.

I always brought an extra blanket and rolled it up to put under my baby. It worked for me quite well but I am pretty petite so others may need more support.

I've seen the inflatables and always wondered how well they actually worked. I was one of those Boppy-luggers for many months. Eventually, I just left the Boppy at home and gave in to using one or two regular pillows. I found that if I was nursing on a bed or could put my feet on a stool, that worked pretty well. At rest stops or pulled over on a road trip, I often used the buckwheat head rest pillow as an impromptu nursing pillow and until that lovely one-year pudginess set in, I found that it often did the trick pretty well. Good luck!

I saw a mom with a small pillow that was inconceivably perfect for nursing on the go, and I asked her about it. It was a small travel pillow from Fred Meyer! I went and bought two -- one to leave in the car and one for the diaper bag. They aren't inflatable or neck pillows filled with seeds/shells -- they are really small fluffy pillows about 8 or 10 inches wide and about 6 inches deep. I think they wre only $7 bucks each or less. i'm not using mine anymore if you want them!

I used to have anxiety about leaving the house without my Boppy, then I discovered the wonders of the inflatable travel neck pillow. I bought mine at Brookstone for $10. It works great, I can even blow it up one-handed (takes about 10 seconds to blow up). I bring mine with me to Mommy Matinee and it does the trick every time. I keep mine in my diaper bag at all times!

Thrupenny Bits breastfeeding pillows are actually stylish AND portable, they tie on so can be used sitting on any chair or stool with no slippage which for me was a problem with some of the other bigger bulkier pillows and are exactly the right height for feeding. You can buy them from www.thrupennybits.co.uk and have them shipped from the UK. I was never without mine it carries and looks like a bag PLUS even converts to a bag after breastfeeding so great VFM. It honestly transformed my bresatfeeding experience second time round...

I have the gr9x inflatable nursing pillow (http://comfortfirst.com/p-43635-gr8x-inflatable-nursing-pillow-for-breastfeeding-on-the-go.aspx) that I used for a while, but now my baby is too big for a nursing pillow. I think the other ideas posted here are probably better since they are cheaper and you can use them for something else once you don't need a nursing pillow any longer.

Huggabee's Cuddle Me portable nursing pillow is great. They slip on your arm so the pillow does not move and the baby's head is supported. It's really comfortable and my baby loves it.

After much searching around the high street, asking friends etc. I resorted to the trusted internet and found this site... http://www.breastfeedingpillow.org.uk
although there aren't that many products on the actual site, the scrolling bar at the side has every breastfeeding pillow you can imagine - go see!
