Pediatrician in SW Portland

Recommendations sought!  Allison writes:

I am an urbanMama-to-be (due March 30th) and my ob has set me the task of finding a pediatrician in the next few weeks.  Does anyone have any suggestions of a great pediatrician in Southwest Portland or Downtown?

I'm also searching for a new ped for my toddler. I'm checking out OHSU's general pediatric practice, but there is also a brand new family practice down at their new building in the South Waterfront blocks if you feel comfortable taking your baby to a family practitioner. If anyone knows of a pediatrician you've had a good experience with at OHSU's pediatric clinic, let me know--right now, I'm picking one at random. --Karli

We have been seeing Dr. Eaton at Westside Pediatrics for almost a year now and like her. The practice was referred to us by my husband's boss who has 2 children when we moved here a year ago and needed to see someone quickly. The office staff is pleasent and helpful, and I've gotten an appointment quickly when I've needed to bring him in sick. I've been thinking about switching to someone closer to home, but have not gotten a strong recommendation from anyone yet. Their phone number is 503-297-1025, website is http://www.westsidepediatrics.com
Good Luck!

Our beloved ped is Bruce Birk at Pediatric Associates of the NW. He is on NW Lovejoy, but they also have another office (different doctors) in Lake O. 503-227-0671. I'm a medical person, so I'm waaaaaay picky. We like him a lot.

Karli-
Our pediatrician, Monique Pritchard, just moved from the (former) OHSU-Sellwood Clinic to the new OHSU building in the South Waterfront blocks. Nearly everyone with a child in the Westmoreland/Sellwood neighborhoods saw her and she will be sorely missed. Our insurance won't cover the new location so we've had to look for a new pediatrician ourselves (yes, we even looked at changing insurance but it wasn't good timing). I highly recommend her! You and your child will love her!!

I whole-heartedly second the recommendation for Dr. Pritchard. FYI - She is (or will be soon) out on family leave until February, but you should have plenty of time to meet her when she gets back, before your baby is born!

We also love Dr. Pritchard. She is very down to earth and up-to-date on the latest research as a prof at OHSU. I like her pediatric triage nurse as well

Sunset Pediatrics is located near St V's and we have been very happy with the care our 2 girls have received. We see Dr. McCloskey because it was important to my husband that our girls have a girl Doc. We like Dr. Snyder and try to see him is McCloskey isn't available. It is a small facility and the docs and nurses are very nice and compassionate. We also see a naturopath and they are very open and understanding of our desire to seek alternative approaches to the care of our children.

we also have been very happy with Westside Pediatrics -- we see Dr. Paul Thomas

I also appreciate these recommendations. We are new to Portland (less than a month) and my son is due for his 12 month checkup in five weeks, so I'd also love to hear any further feedback on good pediatricians in SW or elsewhere in town. Our previous pediatrician was a young(er) woman that I LOVED, so for some reason it made me a little partial to women, but I'm most concerned about finding someone good, and equally important, a friendly and responsive practice (timely calls back from the nurses, etc.). Based on what I've read here, I'd love for him to see Dr. Pritchard, but it sounds like she's not available for a while...

We see Dr. Miller at Olsen Pediatric in Lake Oswego/Lake Grove. He's a great Pedi who is staight to the point and is very supportive in how you want to raise your child. Most of the mom's in my mom's group go to this clinic and love all of the drs. there. There hours are great and have weekend hours for sick kids and late nights (until 9 I think) for the same reason. I have used them for that reason a few times for my son who's almost 2. They call back quick for advice and are really nice. Dr. Miller actually did the newborn screen in the hospital when DS was born.

Here's the phone number 503-635-3743; they are on Boones Ferry Road. Good Luck!

So, we also see Dr. Thomas and Westside and are very happy with him, but the reason I am posting this is I just read a great article on Parenthacks that I felt needed to be crossreferenced here. It's about our occasional desire for overconfident doctors and the honest fears they have. Well written...

For those of you who have Monique as a pediatrician: Do you know why she is no longer at the new SW location? I went to make my sons 2 year well baby for March, and the nurse said she is no longer there, and was not very willing to give any info. If anyone knows what is going on, if there is another location to find her, please let me know! We love her and do not want anyone else unless it is truly necessary! Thanks for any/all of your assistance!

Dr. Monique Pritchard went to the Sellwood Medical Clinic.

Cortina, I don't know why Monique's no longer at the SW Waterfront location but I can say that I am a bit relieved... it wasn't my favorite place to visit and I have been there probably a dozen times since they've opened. Like Anita said, Monique is at a new location in Sellwood and I just made my baby's 6 month well check appointment there. They will need to mail you a packet to fill out new paperwork and request old records from OHSU but there is no fee for that. Monique is also our favorite and I'm glad to go wherever she goes!

We really like the Children's Clinic in Tualatin... Dr. Robert Craft has seen all three of my children and has been our pediatricial for 7 years. We have been happy with all the doctors we have seen at the children's clinic...

Thank you for the information on Monique!!

They called and said that she would not be back at OHSU and I thought that maybe she was going to stay home, I am so happy to be able to contine as her as our doctor!

We were with Dr. Monique Pritchard at OHSU and they also told us there was no forwarding information to pass on to patients. Very unprofessional, but not unlike the service we received there. Urban Mamas was the only place I could find out where she went to. Thanks!

Our non-traditional family with two moms and two children are so happy to hear that Dr Monique Pritchard is back on the East side of the river. Sellwood truly missed her and we travel from Oregon City. She is wonderful and honoring of our family, a natural approach to health and funny too. Welcome back Dr. Pritchard.

I saw Dr. Pritchard when I was younger. She, being the first real memory as a doctor, was the best. Since adulthood has struck I now see other doctors. None, have been as attentive. She looks as though she really was listening and would check me out thouroughly. I could go on, but this would be a lot longer.

I just wanted to thoroughly thank all of you who posted about Dr. Pritchard. I found myself in a situation with a sick infant and a less than attentive pediatrician. During my search for a new one I found this thread and made an appointment with Dr. Monique Pritchard. She is now caring for my son and I cannot say enough nice things about her. She was very welcoming, attentive, and really made me feel comfortable and confident with her abilities. At our first appt. She gave me a direct line to her nurse if we have repeat bouts of my sons illness. Thank you everyone!

I would recommend Pediatric Associates of the Northwest (www.portlandpediatric.com), a great Portland pediatric facility with excecllent pediatricians and pediatric nurse practitioners. They also have an office in Lake Oswego, where my experience has been with Dr. Jay Rosenbloom. In my search to find a pediatrician, they have been a great find for me!

we are expecting our first on december 12 and are wondering if anyone has used a pediatrician near meridian park complex. we love our doctors that we have seen there and hope to have the same luck with our pediatrician. any advice is greatly appreciated.

Wow, thanks for all this info! How about Dr. Jabbour on Greenburg Rd? Does anyone know her?

I found Dr. Pritchard on this thread 2.5 years ago when my daughter was born. She has been fantastic and I really trusted her nurse Sue (who has recently left). UNFORTUNATELY I have to update this thread that in the last 6 months or so she's gotten so busy that we can't see her when needed. I called 2 months early to make my daughter's 2 year checkup and was told she was scheduled 4 months out. And then just this week, we had to go into the office for an emergency appointment for a scary recurring health issue, had to see a "guest" doctor who consulted with Dr. Pritchard at least twice, but she never stopped in to even say a quick "hello" or "it's going to be okay". Really disappointing - we needed to see the doctor that knew our daughter's history to get an educated diagnosis. I've never felt so little care or concern for my little girl. We're now on the hunt for a new doctor. It doesn't matter how great Dr. Pritchard is if we never get to see her.
