the next new thing: Sip and Kranz
Thanks to all who are emailing to get urbanMamas over to the new spot, Sip and Kranz. Featured in last week's Portland Picks, Sip and Kranz is definitely a spot for the urbanMamas. Betsy shares:
In a comment to a Weekend Warriors post, someone mentioned a new coffee shop called Sip and Kranz that had a play area near Jameson Park in the Pearl. I checked it out today... wooohoooo!!! The place is awesome. It has a cute little sunny play area that the kids can't easily escape from with toys for many ages. It has Stumptown coffee and good muffins. It has abundant parking during the week. And, top this, it even has a little potty in the women's room for the kiddos. I'm in love. Most of the moms there seem to have the "it takes a village" attitude. I stayed in the playroom with about 6 kids for an hour, then another mom came in and I went out to enjoy a muffin and a steamer and enjoy the view of kids happily playing. What a great addition to Portland. It looks like they are applying for a liquor license too.

I swung by Sip and Kranz midday today and - man, oh, man! That place is awesome! Think Sydney's comes to Jamison, which is direct line of sight from Sip and Kranz. I almost cried it seemed so great, spacious, happy, comfy, and - most of all - kid-friendly. Applying for a liquor license? They're mama-friendly too!

Sip and Kranz has now permanently closed the playroom and no longer has a liquor license.

FYI - not only did Sip and Kranz close the playroom, when I expressed my sadness in an email to the owner, I got back an email about how kids are noisy, dirty, carry disease and are a liability. CLEARLY they are not fond of children, and it is no longer at all kid friendly.

I am a frequent customer at Sip & Kranz and the place is still kid friendly. And to the person above: that sounds like an overreaction. I spoke with the owner the other day and it turns out she has nieces and nephews that she just adores. Doesn't sound to me like she hates kids. From what I gather, you are more than welcome to bring in your children, but they are expected to behave. Sounds reasonable to me!!
