Hesler's: Food for Families on NE Alberta
Thank you, Robyn, for sharing your experiences. We appreciate hearing first-hand about your amazing experiences. She shares:
We went to Helser’s on Alberta and 16th. Three families—six kids under the age of 8—and the hostess didn’t bat an eye. They couldn’t have been nicer. When we sat down the kids immediately were presented with paper and crayons to draw. And our waitress was the best! Her name was Memory and she was so sweet and patient with the kids. They don’t have a specific kids menu but when asked she said she had one “in her head”. Basically anything they offer they’ll do kid-sized portions for a very reasonable price. For example, I was able to order one pancake for my daughter for $1, one piece of french toast and one slice of bacon for one of the other kids, etc… (on weekends, they only serve breakfast all day but have lunch items during the week. p.s. Their french toast is awesome.) Milk comes in plastic kid cups with straws. We didn’t have any kids high-chair age but I noticed a stack of them in the back. I've never heard Helser's mentioned in relation to kids but we had such a fabulous experience there that I thought y’all would want to know. And if you go, ask for Memory!

We LOVE Helser's. The owner/chef has an infant and a preschooler and has obviously passed on his desire for good family service to his staff. They are wonderful and you can't beat their apple cornmeal pancakes! We've always brought our friends there - it's a great place to support.

When we lived withing walking distance of Helser's two years ago we went every Saturday for breakfast. The service for mom and boys was terrific by the entire staff. Their food is fresh and interesting (the boys call it the Crumpet Cafe as they have gorgeous crumpets in lieu of toast).
Please, everyone, remember to tip PER CHILD not a percentage on your bill. I've never been a waitress but Im amazed at how cheaply my kids eat at some pretty nice places. Memory could have had two couples ordering full meals and ordering bloody mary's in those booster seats--racking up a nice brunch bill. TIP UP MOMMIES! Believe me, they'll remember you and you'll get better service every time.

Thumbs up for Helsers! We ate there almost every weekend while we were remodeling our kitchen, and I was dealing with first trimester quesies. They have a great "happy hour" breakfast menu before 9 AM. I agree that the staff is really accomodating of children.
I had to take a break from Helsers because I associated the food with morning sickness (sorry!), but we went back last weekend and there was so much that looked good I almost couldn't decide! Their specials are fabulous. We also have special dietary needs and there's always something that we can eat.
