Where to Donate Toys and Clothes

Reuse, recycle, reduce. It's the Portland way.  So, what if you have some gear and clothes that you'd like to donate rather than sell or exchange?  Here are Kim's kind words about urbanMamas (thanks!) and question:

I would like to start off by saying I love your website! I stumbled upon it looking into Childcare/Pre School info for my 2 1/2 year old son.

I had one question do you or any of the "urbanMamas" know of a place I can donate his toys etc.? When he was younger we went to the Children's Exchange to trade things (which is a great place) I would really like to know if there was a way to find families in need to help with toys and clothes.

Insights, a teen parent program, accepts donations. They're located off of SE 21st and Powell.

Women's Intercommunity AIDS Resource (WIAR) at 1608 SE Ankeny takes donations.

WIAR is a multi-service drop-in center for women and children affected by HIV/AIDS.

There are MANY places in Portland that clothes can be donated or consigned. I recommend Just '4' Kids on NE 41st and Hancock, it is right by the Hollywood Library. The prices are fair and it is always nice to make a little extra money. They also donate to PTA clothing closets and Teen Parent programs. Another recommendation is to donate to your local Early Head Start. They take gently used clothes for little ones 0-3.

I just took a bunch of stuff to Insights Teen Parent Program and they were thrilled to have it! They said that they have lot of homeless pregnant teens right now. Their info is:

2020 SE Powell

I couldn't get anyone on the phone so I just showed up with a carload of stuff and they were very happy to take it all. Nice group of people working there.

Portland Impact provides social services for families and seniors all over the city. They take donations of clothing, food, furniture and even some home appliances.

I run the Clothing Closet at the Womens Residential Center (A&D Treatment) on SE7th. If people have lightly worn things especially larger sizes we would love it!! Call and ask for Cara, leave a message and number with someone. I will get back to you asap! Anything you have will be loved and worn! 235-0131

I choose to donate my clothes than to sell it. I love helping people in need.

I suggest the salvation army as well. Or the local orphanage within one's county. A information service booth can be found in the local government office.
