HE'S BITING ME!!

Jack just started biting me while nursing...  He's 5 months old with two bottom teeth.  With two year old Ella traipsing around, I can't bear the idea of pumping and bottle feeding.  Any ideas for helping to break Jack of this new and PAINFUL thing?

Ugh, I remember those days. When my kids bit while nursing, I'd gently open their jaws with my finger and say "no biting." We'd then try again. I recall this only being a problem for a week or two, and then disappearing. (But they were long weeks.)

Yes, this happened to me a few times. The recommendation that someone gave me (which worked) was to immediately remove them from your nipple when they bite, while also saying a firm "no biting." It hurt so much the few times he did it, that I didn't even continue nursing for a few minutes. You could see the surprise on his face and it really got the message across, so I think he only did this 3 or 4 times.

i personally found the smoosh-into-breast method to be most effective for both of my girls.

My 6-month old boy has been biting me off and on for the past month or so. The advice my friend gave me was not to scream, because the reaction would provoke more biting, and to quickly smoosh his face into your breast. He'll open his mouth automatically to breathe, releasing the nipple. She said it worked after one or two times. I haven't tried it but I will.

Also, I read that babies can't bite while they nurse, and when I thought about it, the times I'd been bitten was when he was about done nursing and kind of playing around. So, maybe take him off sooner than you have been.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I started boob smooshing yesterday (I had heard of this strategy before - Thanks JJ) and it's helping. Thanks again.
