Swallowtail School would like to invite you to meet our teachers and tour our beautiful classrooms at the upcoming Open House on April 16th, 5pm - 7pm. You will also have an opportunity to talk to parents of our students and view student work. The school is located in the heart of Hillsboro at 332 NE 6th Ave, at Edison St.

Swallowtail School is Washington County's only Waldorf school, offering education from pre-school through eighth grade. Through an artistic and experiential approach to education, Swallowtail School students receive a dynamic education that covers not only the standards of language arts, history, math and science, but also includes studies of fine arts, music, Spanish language and cultures, handwork, movement, woodworking, and environmental education. Our students have the opportunity to experience the out-of-doors as a classroom whenever feasible. stewardship and community service are also an integral part of students' learning.

Swallowtail School has openings in its PreK through Eighth programs for the 2008-2009 school year! If you're looking for education that truly is a holistic experience for your child, we invite you to come and tour our Main Campus at 332 NE 6th Avenue near the heart of Hillsboro. We often have events at our Rural Campus (and future campus site) off of NW Camp Ireland Road in Hillsboro - a beautiful 26-acre site that hosts our yearly Harvest Faire, Property Walks, and Family Workshops.

The Waldorf Curriculum teaches the child through "the head, hands, and heart". Our teachers integrate the arts throughout all academic subjects as well as incorporating practical activities for experiential learning. This holistic approach aims to enliven the imagination and instill a living wisdom that will accompany the child throughout their life. Our curriculum seeks to enrich the intellect while ensuring that the child maintains a deep joy of learning.

Academic subjects are taught within thematic blocks lasting 3-4 weeks. The themes of each block are arranged to build upon one another over the years to offer an inspiring educational journey for the child as they mature from the early years through eighth grade.
