Cedarwood Waldorf School Open House - March 7th

Cedarwood Waldorf School is a warm and vibrant community of committed teachers and parents dedicated to the physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual development of children from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.  Please join us for our Open House on March 7th from 10am-1pm.

This informative event provides a glimpse into our vibrant school community.  You and your children will have the opportunity to participate in bread baking and warm beeswax modeling in the Kindergarten classrooms.  Grades students will perform marimba, circus arts, and orchestra pieces and student art work will be on display.  Two different presentations will be offered as well.  One will provide a general overview of Waldorf education; the other will focus on how Cedarwood Waldorf School meets the needs of the middle school child.  Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to see our wonderful school.  Families welcome.

Cedarwood is located in Portland, just south of downtown at 3030 SW Second Avenue in the historic Neighborhood House, across the street from Lair Hill Park. We welcome phone calls and visits from interested families at 503.245.1477.

SUN CIRCLE PLAYGARDEN: in-home preschool for ages 3-5

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

I provide a gradual bridge from home life with a small group ratio (no more than 6 children at a time). Within a cozy home setting, children are given individual attention in a nurturing and unhurried atmosphere.

Our days are woven together in a gentle tapestry of rhythm, movement and song, providing a secure and comforting environment that young children can thrive in. Together, we will enjoy child-directed play, baking, music, painting, gardening, circle time, yoga, folk and fairy tales from diverse cultures, outdoor play, nature and walks.

Parental involvement is vital in every aspect of our program, including open communication, planning, sharing of ideas, general volunteering and attending seasonal celebrations...

For more information, please visit: http://www.suncirclepdx.com or call Heather at 503.887. 5489. I look forward to talking with you!

Creative Science School info

does anyone have first hand experience with CSS?  i'm curious about the curriculum beyond the info on their site.  my 1st grader seems to be a quick study, tests well etc and our current school's suggestion has always been to have her skip a grade.  we don't want to do that, so we're looking for a learning environment that allows children to accelerate at their own pace.  we don't want her to get bored at school, which is starting to happen more and more, but socially -- at her current location at any rate -- she's just not ready to skip an entire year.  would CSS be a good match or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Unique Preschool Has Openings!!

Located in downtown Beaverton on a quiet residential street, you will find the Little Cottage.  The Certified Preschool CENTER that looks like a house, feels like a home and prepares children for the world around them...
Here, the children have the opportunity to participate in gardening and problem solving.  They learn how to navigate their ABC's, 123's and peer relationships.  We encourage children to rely on their strengths and build on their limitations.

And, because we care about children inside and out, we make sure that what we feed them is also just as enriching and nourishing as the outside environment that we create for them.  The snacks and meals that we provide are planned with little growing bodies in mind.  We choose organic products whenever possible and try to foster healthy choices.
Additionally, due to our commitment to the environment and our daily practices, we have been qualified as an Eco-Healthy Childcare site by the Oregon Environmental Council.

Infants

In the infant center, infants take the lead and the caring providers follow that lead, facilitating your infant’s natural curiosity of the  world around them by providing age-appropriate sensory experiences as well as  nourishing them with love and warmth in our baby-friendly  environment.
Toddlers young and older are provided safe opportunities to explore the natural world around them as well as develop connections and relationships.

Preschool

We offer a pre-school curriculum with a child-centered approach.  Your child will learn through the exploratory process of doing and the unequivocal process  PLAY.  Every child knows that play is learning and learning is fun.  Especially in our exploratory-play based environment.
Our preschoolers are gently geared up with kindergarten readiness skills, in ways that are developmentally appropriate for young children (after-all, they’re not kindergartners yet!).

In addition, our teachers have their Bachelor's in the field of Early Childhood Development and Child & Family Studies.  And yet, we are affordable.  We accept DHS and have tuition scholarships available for those who qualify (thanks to a generous grant).

Mother Earth School at TLC Farm - open house!

We are having an open house for our new outdoor school at TLC Farm.  I received a phone call from a mama who saw us advertised on this website but the date and times of the open house were incorrect.  I'd like to clarify for anyone interested:
On Saturday Feb. 14th (Valentine's Day) we will be in the community room of People's Co-op (SE 21st between Division and Powell) from 10am-noon.  We will be answering questions about our school and we will also have a craft project for children, so please bring the whole family!  We have 2 programs at the farm, Mother Earth Kindergarten for ages 4-6 and Mother Earth Faery Garden for ages 2 1/2 - 4.  Both Miss April and Miss Kelly will be at the event so you can meet the teachers and arrange for a tour of the farm.  We hope to see you then!
