A rockin' chess club for all grade levels, NikeGo (a good program notwithstanding the corporate sponsorship of public schools), conflict manager program, PE, art, and library.
This neighborhood school encourages parent involvement and has an active, dynamic, dedicated PTA.

Hi! Astor will be adding a half-time Spanish and music teacher this fall 2010! As a music teacher myself (I might be applying for the job, btw) I am thrilled that my neighborhood school is adding these important elements to the strong curriculum.

My son attends Astor, first grade, and we really like the school. We are thinking about using the Vermont Hills on-site daycare but I want to know if parents like it or not. I have facts, but not opinions. What are your experiences with this service?

If anyone else has a child starting kindergarten this fall, feel free to drop me an email. Nif (above comment) and I have been working on a get-together, and it would be great to have other families in the mix!

Hey, our little guy has fallen in love with Astor on our visit, so we're moving into the neighborhood and will be starting K in the fall. Any other Astor families out there want to do some park dates over the summer? I'd love it if he can meet other kids BEFORE school starts... feel free to ping me: nif dot lindsay at gmail dot com!

Friday, Nov 21 is Astor's annual PTA auction...this year with a new look. From 6:30-8:30, join us for light snacks, hot cider, and music by Max Zimmer while bidding on great items from local businesses.
Kung Fu Panda will be shown in the gym for the kiddos to enjoy...and we have some student teacher & parent volunteers to hang out with them.

I'm with Leslie... I've lived here for 6 years and haven't found any overt Catholicism. In fact, the University's religious affiliation is very low key. The Catholic community that's here is more centered around the parish and longtime NoPo families rather than the university. And even that is just like any neighborhood religious organization with some people involved and plenty who aren't.
It's a great neighborhood to live in...

It's certainly not overt, if that is so. I'm sure there is a Catholic community, as there are in most places...we've lived here for several years, are not religious, and have found it no different from other areas we've lived in...

Could anyone tell me about this area a bit more? Someone told me that since the University is Catholic that the community around it is fairly catholic as well. Is this the case?
