I have a daughter in 2nd Grade at CSS. I also coordinate the Information Nights and classroom observations. The Information Nights are on February 7th and February 28th at Bridger at 6:30. We schedule classroom observations on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:15. If anyone wants to talk about CSS or schedule an observation, you can contact me at larsenstacy@comcast.net

I have a 1st grader, and a 5th grader who started in Kindergarten. I would be happy to answer anyone's questions about CSS. My kids LOVE SCHOOL!

I visited and love this curriculum! I wonder what current parents think about the move to the new building, the new principal, the growth, the new neighborhood, etc... Lots of pretty exciting changes but some unknowns, as well. Would lvoe to hear thoughts on that piece. Thanks!!

I have a 1st grader at CSS and have been very involved since we started last year. I feel optimistic about the move to the new building (even with the news of possible demolition - who knows when or if that will ever happen!) We have a lot of big plans in mind with the outdoor space: gardens, natural habitats/playspace, etc and getting more involved with the greater community. I feel hopeful that the district will hire the right principal for us, but you are right, at this point it is still an unknown. Our community has lived through many unknowns in the past few years, so it seems a lot of us are getting used to it! We got to meet with an HR rep from PPS to discuss what criteria are important in a principal and I felt like we were listened to - we'll see. The new neighborhood will hopefully bring in some more diversity to the program, so I'm looking forward to that as well. Although it's only about 10 blocks from the present location, so it's not a dramatic change.

Mostly, I'm excited to be in a building that is our own, where the philosophies of the program will be honored building-wide. The growth will be inevitable (both because of interest and because the district says we have to grow to keep the building), but I believe CSS can maintain it's principles and vision at the same time.

well, we just got accepted to creative science, and we could not be happier! we applied last year, but our application was "lost", and we went to our awesome neighborhood school which unfortunately did not meet the specific needs of my creative child. since being accepted at creative science, i sent out a few emails to people on their website and have gotten more feedback and support in a period of 3 days than we did all year at our old school. i know there are unknowns, but i feel like it's great to be starting with a slate that is a little more blank, giving us the ability to really contribute and make a difference. when we visited, all of the kids were sooooo PERSONALLY engaged with the material and confident in themselves and supportive of each other. what a gem! we are so psyched!

My son will be attending CS kindergarden class in Fall '08. I would like to meet other families who are in the North/Northeast Portland area who have future CS Kindergardners for friend-making and possible carpooling. Already Having a friend at school will make the transition easier I think.

At CSS, children learn through experience and experiments. Students develop and demonstrate the ability to create questions, formulate solutions and apply results throughout their lives. The constructivist approach to learning means your child is immersed in a curriculum that asks questions, encourages investigation, promotes cooperative learning, develops problem-solving language and celebrates creativity.
