Hello Portland Mamas!

I am a student doula (through Birthingway College of Midwifery) and am looking for mamas who are interested in working with me! A doula is an activist and a support person for mothers before, during, and after labor. I have been trained as a labor doula but can also offer postpartum help such as breastfeeding support.

I believe that women are lucky (yes, lucky) to be able to go through the childbearing process and would love to help you write and stick to a birth plan. My goal is to make birth a positive memorable experience for you, your baby, and any birth partner.

Doulas can tend to be expensive (especially is Portland, where demand is high) and my rate is income based and negotiable. Choosing a doula is extremely difficult and I know many other doulas (students and certified) in Portland who would also love to meet you!

Seeking advice on OB/GYN in Portland

I'm looking for an OB/GYN to deliver my baby in Portland this fall and was wondering if I could get some recommendations.  I am looking for an OB that may follow or be familiar with the Bradley method, would follow my birthing plan pretty well, and someone who does not commonly give episiotomies.  Also, if there are any good Osteopathic OB/GYN's that practice manipulations  that would be great to know about too.  Thanks for your input!

Pregnant? Looking for a low-cost doula?

Hello Mamas,

I'm a birth doula who has just completed my births needed for my Doula certification.   I'm accepting new clients at a low cost because I love the work and wish everyone could have a doula.  My services include 2-3 prenatal visits; on-call 24 hours a day for 2 weeks on both sides of the due date; and 1-2 postpartum visits.  Cost is $300. 

As a doula, my goal is to help women and their families feel informed, confident and empowered during the birth of their child.  Through emotional support I strive to give mothers the confidence to birth their babies the way that is best for them, regardless of the path they take. 

I have a special interest in working with non-native English speakers and all foreign-born populations.  Having given birth to my son while living in Japan, I am especially empathetic towards women who are going through this same experience.  I hope to provide them a safe-haven for having a birth experience that is within their cultural expectations.  But I am absolutely open to all potential clients, regardless of background. 

I completed my doula training course and a six-month internship with Mothertree Birth Services here in Portland.

OBGYN / Midwife recommendations for Good Sam?

Hi All,

I just found out that I am pregnant and am feeling a bit overwhelmed in selecting a doctor or midwife.  The one decision we have made is that we would like to deliver at Good Sam's.  I am not sure wether a traditional obgyn in best for me or a midwife.  I would LOVE your recommendations on any great providers who deliver at Good Sam.  I am really looking for someone who is caring and approachable, warm and supportive and also of course a great doctor.  Any advise on the obgyn/midwife decision would be great as well.

We are two advanced doctoral students who are studying the effect of pregnancy and motherhood on the lives of women and are looking to make collaborations with parent-focused communities. With your help, we would like to learn how we might best reach a large, diverse audience of mothers-to-be. 

The focus of our research is to learn more about the process of becoming a mother and how it may inform a woman's identity, relationships, spirituality, mental health, and general well-being.  Our online survey is easy to take and will take only 30-60min of your time now and again after you give birth. 

We hope it can serve as a forum to reflect on your experience and hopefully guide others in their path.
