Our indoor play space is for children aged 0-4 years. We have plenty of room to crawl, roll, run, jump, build, slide and more for the little ones and time to relax a little and form new friendships and networks for Mom, Dad or caregiver. Regular hours of play are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 – 11:30. This is a cooperative play space managed and operated by member families.

The park is located in the lower level of Word and Spirit Church (formerly Faith Lutheran) @ 6140 NE Stanton (just S. of Sandy Blvd.). Entrance to the play park is on 62nd Ave. Look for the balloons on these open house days for entrance.

Hope to see you soon!

Toddler Play Group in NE Portland

A couple of us mamas are starting a play group in NE Portland and we're looking for a few more kids to participate.  The group is for toddlers aged 18-24 months (with a little wiggle room on either side).  The group will be supervised by a play group teacher, who has a great deal of previous experience working with young children.  The group will consist of a lot of free play, with some story-reading, singing, outdoor play, art, music and other semi-structured activities.

The group will:

  • include only 4 children
  • be 4 hours long
  • be held twice a week (although once a week participation is ok if it's your preference),
    cost $5/hour/child.
  • The groups are hosted by 2 of the families who are participating, and parents do not attend the group (Yeah!  Free time for mama and/or papa!).

Please email me soon at palight_2000@yahoo.com if you'd like to learn more, or if you know this interests your family.  Thanks!

Tandem Coffeehouse

Hi there,
I am the new owner of a small, mama owned, coffee shop in SE Portland, Tandem Coffeehouse. As a long time reader of urbanmamas, I thought it would be a fantastic place to let people know about our shop. We are very family friendly with a kids play area, family friendly local art and a growing menu of house made treats as well as sandwiches and soup. We serve Stumptown coffee and Dragonfly chai and try to use local products and vendors whenever possible. We will be having a story time once or twice week, and our play area is a great place for mama/ baby groups to meet. We are open from 7am-4pm weekdays and 8am-4pm weekends. We are also available for after hours groups or occasions.  Check out our Myspace page to learn more about the shop and the mamas who run it.

Thanks,
Shadeau and Amber

Where to go to meet other mothers...

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to where to go to meet other mothers and/or resources on finding play groups for my 20 month old.

I am a mother who works outside of the home four days per week who doesn't have many friends with children.  It feels impossible to find time to meet other parents let alone to find mothers with children the same age as my own...not that it is entirely a prerequisite.

My little one goes to childcare and I noticed that he often just watches the other kids and will play either by himself or will hang out with the caregivers...and then it occurred to me that other than my niece and a couple of friends children (all are older) he doesn't get much time to interact with other children his age one-on-one or in small groups.  He enjoys other children and seems to like watching...which is fine, but having opportunities to play with children his own age, I would think, would really help him to feel more comfortable.

So, here is the scoop...  I live in inner NE, a few blocks from Alberta.  I have off on Mondays and would love to find a group...or just meet up with other mothers informally.  So if you have any information or if you are interested in getting together, let me know.

Perhaps, if I find out that there is nothing readily available, I should start a playgroup...any takers?

NE Portland Mamas

Hey all, I'm a new mom to a 6 week baby boy and one of the first of my friends to have a baby so I have a shortage of talking to others I can relate/vent/have fun with that also have a child attached to their side!  Would love to meet other moms to infants ideally on the east side for coffee, walks, kid-friendly happy hour, etc. I live near the Alberta Arts and Mississippi neighborhoods.

Please feel free to email if you're interested!

Play Groups for 1-Year Old in NE

I'm looking for a play group for 12-18 month olds. My second child, a daughter, just turned one. When her older brother was this age I was well connected to a great moms' group (in NY), so he had many play dates with kids his age. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in Portland with kids my daughters age. I would love to meet some new moms, and she would LOVE to have some friends to play with from time to time. We'd be up for meeting at the park or at our house for a play date. If we get a group together, maybe we can rotate houses? We're open to ideas. I live in NE Portland, and would love to find folks relatively close by. Email me if you're interested in getting together with our 1+ year olds at palight_2000@yahoo.com.
