A lot of families don't have the resources (financial or time) to commit to a long series of childbirth education classes. We have that problem solved! Instead of signing up for a whole 4-8 week series, families can sign up for one OR two OR three classes and space them out in whatever way best fits their schedule. There is no particular order anyone must follow, so if you take one before another you won't feel like you missed something important!
Classes are taught by Kelly Schneyer, mama to 18 month old Asa and wife to Jeremy. We live in NE Portland by New Seasons (Concordia) and classes are taught out of our home. Each class is $25 or three classes can be bought as a punch card for $65. Listed below are the class names, dates, and times. My name is Kelly Schneyer. I'm a relatively new childbirth educator and postpartum doula and owner of Web of Life Perinatal Services in NE Portland. I am teaching a free 8 week childbirth preparation pilot series that also includes a free 8 week postpartum peer group. This is a unique program for families-to-be, combining a childbirth education series with postpartum peer groups. The childbirth education series is based on the biodynamic model, illustrating the biological ways that hormones can help or hinder birth. We will also learn about the physiology of birth, pain relieving methods and addressing fears before labor begins. The postpartum peer groups are a step beyond "Mommy & Me" groups. Both parents are included in semi-structured weekly meetings, allowing entire families to connect. My first series are FREE to a total of four families. !f there are more interested families than I have room for, I will consider extending the offer and add additional days to my class calendar.

A good friend of mine is the ED of this local non-profit called Adoption Mosaic. They have just released their guide to "Adoption in the Movies," which they describe like this:

For several years we’ve held movie nights for adults who were adopted. We also have times when adoptees can “bring a guest.” What we’ve witnessed has been inspiring. Through watching these films, we’re able to learn from one another, build community, and contribute to enhancing the lives of those who have been influenced by adoption.
We hope that this booklet will be a way for you, your family, and your friends to participate in and extend this dialogue.

Hi all-
I just had my 2nd child a few weeks ago and am looking forward to getting back into shape. After the birth of my first child, I led a group of other mamas in a exercise group similar to the baby bootcamps held here and in other cities. I thought, why pay for a class when all I really wanted was a group to help keep me motivated? It worked really well, and was a lot of fun, so I'd like to do it again.
I will be organizing a low-impact walking/calesthenics, 1 hour outdoor exercise routine in Inner NE Portland that can be done with your baby in a stroller. So- if you have a pre-crawling baby and would like to get together with a group a few days a week to help lose the baby weight, I'd love to hear from you. wubledoo@yahoo.com

Original Birth is offering Biodynamic Childbirth Classes that will allow you to discover your ability to birth naturally. Please join us in a counseling process and support group for mothers with children 8 years old or younger. Group meetings will focus on the emotional exploration of the idea of motherhood and the disconnect with the reality of what motherhood really means.
Group will be cofacilitated by Alison Stawicki, MS, NCC, a professional adult individual counselor and Lindsay McGrath, MS, a professional marriage and family therapist.

Hey all, I'm a new mom to a 6 week baby boy and one of the first of my friends to have a baby so I have a shortage of talking to others I can relate/vent/have fun with that also have a child attached to their side! Would love to meet other moms to infants ideally on the east side for coffee, walks, kid-friendly happy hour, etc. I live near the Alberta Arts and Mississippi neighborhoods.

This past weekend I put together my first ever Green Cleaners workshop for a few of my mom friends. I started making all my own cleaners a while ago using nontoxic ingredients, and have been really pleased with both their effectiveness and how the house smells when I clean. I also feel really good about not using any harsh chemicals that can be absorbed through the skin or having dangerous fumes be inhaled by the kids (or me, for that matter). I had a lot of fun doing this, and really enjoy helping others make their homes just a little bit safer.
If you live in the Portland area and are interested in a hands-on workshop that will teach you how to make several different cleaners, including kitchen cleansers, diaper pail deodorizer, tub and tile cleaner, floor mop, all-purpose household cleaner, antiseptic soap spray, and air deodorizer, please contact me.
I want to share a wonderful local resource for families who have adopted internationally. A good friend has started a non-profit organization called Adoption Mosaic that provides a range of support services for internationally adopted children and their families. Astrid was adopted from Columbia herself and brings an amazing passion to this work, including trainings on trans-racial issues, birth stories, movie nights, and discussion groups. She recently described to me a training where she assisted parents in preparing to answer their children's questions about their own adoption. Astrid worked for many years for the state's post-adoption resource center (ORPARC), providing support to families who adopted children from the state of Oregon. Her passion is international adoption and she created Adoption Mosaic to support families with services not previously available.
