Crafty Mamas Wanted

Milagros is hosting a Holiday Bazaar on December 6th!

This festival will be a fun and free community event and an opportunity to support the great work of MercyCorps. We have room for a few more vendors. If you are a crafty mama and would like to take part, here are the details:

  • There is no table fee but you must provide at least 10 percent of your sales to Milagros at the end of the day. This will be donated to MercyCorps. Milagros will also be donating 10 percent of its sales.
  • You have to make or design the product you are selling.
  • If you are using any manufactured goods as part of your craft/product (for instance if you are screen-printing on a t-shirt) you MUST be using certified sweatshop-free materials. This is not required of recycled or repurposed materials.
  • If you are using any manufactured goods as part of your craft/product (for instance if you are screen-printing on a t-shirt) you CANNOT use items made in China. This is not required of recycled or repurposed materials.
  • This will primarily be outside, canopies are provided, tables and chair are provided to the extent we have them. Canopies need to be shared.
  • You must be set-up by 11 am and you need to stay open until 3 pm. You are responsible for you own sales, etc.
  • If you would like to be considered for the Bazaar, send a product description and, if available, JPEGs or link of your item for consideration to us at milagros@milagrosboutique.com

Postpartum Chiropractic Care on NE Broadway

Postpartum chiropractic care on NE Broadway. I just had a baby about a month ago and my body was wrecked from the pregnancy and labor. My body continues to have aches and pains from holding my new baby, etc. I went to Flores Chiropractic at 2916 NE Broadway and I am finally starting to feel normal again! I am finally getting back to normal and feel I am able to start exercising again without pain. It is great. Plus Dr. Flores is really nice, laid-back, down to earth guy who really seems to care. Check him out – Dr. Noe Flores, 2916 NE Broadway, Suite B, 971-255-1922; drnoeflores@gmail.com. He just opened not too long ago, so his sign is not up yet. His office is behind the DocuMart not too far from Fred Meyer on Broadway. My kinks are getting worked out - Lynn

    Summer Spanish classes

Our teacher is a native Spanish speaker from Mexico with years of experience in teaching Spanish and English to young children. The camp is full of art, crafts, music, dancing, cooking, outside playtime, etc., to keep them happily focused and enjoying learning Spanish. The teacher always speaks Spanish first and then follows up with English for clarity, if needed. All levels of Spanish understanding and speaking are welcome. We will have classes M-F, mornings and afternoons. You can sign up for just one slot a week, or all the slots in a week (or any combination). The classes will run from 9-12 and/or 1-4 daily, all summer long. Cost is $25 a class with a sibling discount. Feel free to email with additional questions. To sign up, please reply with the following information:

    • Child's Name
    • Age
    • How many slots you are interested in (1-10)
    • 1st choice for days/times
    • 2nd choice for days/times

There is enough flexibility for taking summer vacations or if you just want to pop in a couple weeks here or there that is also an option.

    Looking for a perfect home!

HI, we are looking for a home in NE (Alberta, Mississippi). Our 5 yr old daughter is starting a kindergarden at the Emerson school and I will be starting a program at OCOM. We have a cat who likes to sleep outside.

We need at least 2 bdrm and 1 bath, one level house or duplex with hardwood floor. A bonus room (attic, den, or basement) is great. We need a garage for the artistic husband for his projects. Oh, the budget is around $1100. Need to move in on or sooner than the last weekend of July.

If you know of any place, please let us know. Thank you!

Where to go to meet other mothers...

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to where to go to meet other mothers and/or resources on finding play groups for my 20 month old.

I am a mother who works outside of the home four days per week who doesn't have many friends with children.  It feels impossible to find time to meet other parents let alone to find mothers with children the same age as my own...not that it is entirely a prerequisite.

My little one goes to childcare and I noticed that he often just watches the other kids and will play either by himself or will hang out with the caregivers...and then it occurred to me that other than my niece and a couple of friends children (all are older) he doesn't get much time to interact with other children his age one-on-one or in small groups.  He enjoys other children and seems to like watching...which is fine, but having opportunities to play with children his own age, I would think, would really help him to feel more comfortable.

So, here is the scoop...  I live in inner NE, a few blocks from Alberta.  I have off on Mondays and would love to find a group...or just meet up with other mothers informally.  So if you have any information or if you are interested in getting together, let me know.

Perhaps, if I find out that there is nothing readily available, I should start a playgroup...any takers?

Local Eco-Friendly Mama/Baby Shop for Sale

After a successful first year, LilyToad is looking for a new "mama" (or parents!?).  Here's a little about the shop:

*Great location in St. Johns with established and growing clientele (more than 200 on mailing list), an affordable 5 year lease, and existing furnishings, fixtures, and inventory.

*We support 18 local artisans by vending their creations in the shop and have established wholesale contracts with 6 other great businesses.

*Easily navigable, informative website newly outfitted with online shopping capabilities through Shopify.

*Existing advertising through Chinook Book, Redirect Guide, The St. Johns Sentinel, PDX Magazine, greenpeople.org, and indieshopping.com. We're also participating in the Sustainable Children's Fashion Show next Wednesday evening in Jameson Square and the Green Sprouts Festival.

    ...um, why? you ask?

First, because I was offered a full-time teaching position which I can't pass up because it's what I've been working for for years and it's my passion. Second, because owning a store takes one's full attention and/or needs more than one owner (go in with a friend?). And third, because I feel like I've incubated it to the level it needs to be a sustainable, profitable business, and my energies need to be redirected to spending more time with my family.

Asking price includes all inventory, fixtures, furnishings, website, prepaid advertising, and deposits.

Please, serious contacts only. Email me with questions at leslie@lilytoad.com. I'd like to complete the ownership change by Sept. 7.
