Does anyone know of a good home safety "babyproofer"?

May 22, 2008

I am looking for someone to come into my home to evaluate what needs to be done and to help make it happen. I am specifically looking for someone who is reliable, experienced, and professional.  I called "Portland babyproofers" but the dude never calls back. (: I am tired of waiting and do not have time or the skills to do this project myself.

Green Cleaners Workshops

May 07, 2008

This past weekend I put together my first ever Green Cleaners workshop for a few of my mom friends. I started making all my own cleaners a while ago using nontoxic ingredients, and have been really pleased with both their effectiveness and how the house smells when I clean. I also feel really good about not using any harsh chemicals that can be absorbed through the skin or having dangerous fumes be inhaled by the kids (or me, for that matter). I had a lot of fun doing this, and really enjoy helping others make their homes just a little bit safer.

If you live in the Portland area and are interested in a hands-on workshop that will teach you how to make several different cleaners, including kitchen cleansers, diaper pail deodorizer, tub and tile cleaner, floor mop, all-purpose household cleaner, antiseptic soap spray, and air deodorizer, please contact me.

March 02, 2008

I'm in the market for new windows (and installation) for my 1916 bungalow. Have any urbanmamas had a great experience with a window company?

ISO Carpet Installer

September 10, 2007

I need help finding a decent carpet installer for our rental property.  We don't need the expensive schmancy kind because it's just a rental.  But we are a busy family so convenience is a factor.  Will they come to my house to show us samples?  Will they show up and finish when they say they will?  Etc.
Thanks guys!

Tree Specialist Recommendation?

July 18, 2007

This is not mamas related at all but I am wondering if any fellow Portlanders have had any good experience with any arborists/tree specialists in town.  I have a couple trees that I think need to come down but I want to make sure its done right and safely.  I have had an unbelievably hard time finding someone I trust to do the job.  Thanks!

Advice on FSBO transactions

May 30, 2007

Did you buy a home For-Sale-By-Owner?  Did you sell a home FSBO?  Can you help a mama out?  Margaret at mothernotes[at]gmail[dot]com seeks advice:

We're seeking some advice regarding purchasing a house for sale by owner.  While we would prefer to work with a realtor, we have found an ideal house for us and have reached a verbal sales agreement to purchase an estate near our current house.  We will be signing a legal sales agreement in the next day or so and then will proceed with the inspections (house/property, sewer, and soil).  However, we aren't exactly sure how the paperwork and legal process works after that.  Would love to hear for others who have been buyers of a for sale by owner transaction.  And/or if you know or could recommend a good real estate attorney.   Thanks!

Help with the Honey-Do List

May 20, 2007

Anne is seeking some recommendations for a handyman/woman:

I am looking for a good handyman/woman to help out with many of those projects that went by the way side once our lives were taken over by "The BABY". Can anyone recommend someone they trust and who does good work? Does anyone even know what the going rates are for a handyman/woman? I am looking for someone who can do misc anything from minor carpentry, cleaning moss off a roof, digging window wells.

ISO Major Remodeler

May 10, 2007

Lisa is looking for contractor recommendations:

We are looking to do some major remodeling of our kitchen/back entryway. I've heard good things about Neil Kelly and am wondering if any UM's have worked with them and what their experience was. Also, was there a particular designer there that they liked? Or, has anyone done a major (i.e. knocking down walls etc., not just a "facelift") kitchen remodel with another designer/architect that they would recommend?
