New Program Seeking Space

February 12, 2012

LogofinalWe are thrilled to be bringing our new program to the Pacific Northwest for the 2012 schoolyear, but we are in need of a space! We seek to serve in the range of 30 preschool aged students, no more than 42, and want to find the ideal location to house this program. While we find a challenge thrilling we do not seek to navigate conditional use permits, TIFs or the like and would like a space with the same previous use (commercial, E use, etc..).

Please contact us if you know of childcare centers that are relocating, vacancies of spaces or other leads. And we will be back with information on how to enroll your gifted, bright and creative child!

Safer Chemicals Art Contest

February 02, 2012

As part of the work to support the Safe Chemicals Act, the Center for Environmental Health is soliciting submissions for a kids' art contest. Submissions will be delivered to Senators next month, urging them to support this critical bill.  Details here: http://www.saferchemicals.org/artcontest

Any budding artists out there who want to help support the cause? Here are the submission guidelines and details:

Who: Three age categories: 5 and under, 6-12 and 13-18

When: Art submissions will be collected until February 29th, 2012

What: Kids of all ages get to make art describing what a healthy future for our families and environment means to them.

Where: We'd love to collect art from as many states as possible. If you are a parent of a young child, perhaps you want to organize a "playdate" where kids do art together. Be sure to take pictures!

Artwork will be delivered to your Senator asking them to support the Safe Chemicals Act! We can also help you set up a meeting with your Senator's office in your state so parents & artists can make a delivery in person.

Prize: Winners of the art contest will receive a generous basket of non-toxic art supplies, their art featured on our website and via social media. Art that is 2-D will be printed on canvass to hang and feature in your home! Video winners will be featured on our website! Interest and want more information?

Email lindsaydahl@saferchemicals.org for contest rules and ideas for how to make art with your friends and family.

Will and Trust Planning for the Busy Portland Parent

January 31, 2012

Thanks to all the parents who attended my most recent lecture on Will and Trust Planning for the Busy Parent.  One of the moms who came shared with me the last person SHE learned about who drafted a Will.  Not a personal acquaintance to be sure.  But very fun non the less.  Thanks Emily for sharing these links with me and now Urban Mamas.

Brooklyn Neighborhood: Looking for a housemate!

January 30, 2012

My 3 year old daughter and I are getting ready to move in with a friend of ours. The house is beautiful with a big yard and located in the Brooklyn Neighborhood.
Not sure the house is big enough for another kiddo, but that might work especially if someone also has a little one part time (like I do). If you're interested or have questions, please reply to the craigslist ad! Thanks.

Gym with childcare or Mama boot camp?

January 22, 2012

Hi everyone,

I'm new to Portland and have an 8 month old. We live in North Portland and I'm trying to find a gym with childcare, or a mama boot camp type thing (where you can bring your baby). I haven't found anything close by to our home. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
Lanya

First Book-Portland, OR Now Accepting Book Grant Applications from

Local Programs Serving Children In Need

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Portland, Oregon) January 2012 First Book-Portland, OR is currently accepting grant applications from local nonprofit organizations serving children in need.  Teachers and directors of local preschools, child care centers, after-school programs, tutoring and mentoring programs are encouraged to apply for grants to purchase new books to give to the children in their programs.

Applications are due by Friday, February 24, 2012.

Organizations receiving grants will purchase books from First Book warehouses at deeply discounted prices—currently $2.50 for a new book. Organizations then distribute one book per month for up to six months to each child participating in its program.  This enables the children to establish their own home libraries to share with their siblings and families.  Each book will include a book nameplate to allow the children to celebrate the importance of book ownership.  The book grants are made possible through the support of First Book National, and local fundraising efforts by the First Book-Portland, Oregon Advisory Board.

Looking for breast milk for my 8 week old baby

December 01, 2011

Hello, does anyone have extra breast milk they are looking to donate?  I was unable to breastfeed my daughter for very long and we did we receive some donated breast milk, which I am very thankful for, but am all out and now giving formula.  I know breast milk is best and would love to provide that for her.  If you have extra, I would really appreciate it.  I can provide storage bags.  You can also email me directly at heidimarie78@gmail.com.
