The Learning Tower - Donation

This is an awesome opportunity to support local business, benefit a PPS K-8 school, and get your hands on a special order Learning Tower.

Here's the scoop: Ella at Queens Mab on Killingsworth (formerly Tickled Pink) donated a Learning Tower to the Astor School auction fundraiser. It didn't sell, so we decided to post on urbanMamas to a community more likely to use The Learning Tower. The proceeds will go to Astor School, the winning bidder will get a fabulous item in the color of choice, and Ella gets to show off a very cool item she carries at the store.

What is a Learning Tower, you ask?  The website has great information as well as the 9 (!) colors you can choose from.  http://www.mylearningtower.com/

We've listed it on ebay, with local pick-up the only option.

Music is something that speaks to every one of us. We are all drawn to different types of music for many reasons: our culture, our family, our environment and our experiences. No matter if your kid wants to play electric guitar or the Hawaiian ukulele, we teach the fundamentals in a way that's individualized, fun and motivating.  Sound Roots' goal is to match students with teachers who most compliment their specific musical interests. By customizing  each student's experience, we can positively impact the way a student feels about music for the rest of their life.

Beyond camps, Sound Roots offers lessons and classes in a huge variety of instruments for all ages and skill levels.  Call 503 282 9999 with questions or to enroll or visit our website for more info. www.soundrootsmusic.com

Lanterns of Hope

Please support local paper artist, Helen Hiebert, as she creates thousands of hand-pressed paper lanterns in support of Barack Obama.

Helen has created a simple paper lantern with a translucent Obama logo watermark that glows when lit from within. Her goal is to have thousands of these lanterns in windows across the nation, lit every night from now through the election.

Partial proceeds from the sale of each lantern will, in turn, be sent in to Obama's campaign fund.

If you are hosting a fundraising party, these lanterns make perfect centerpieces or gifts!
Light a candle and help to shine a ray of hope!

Supah-Dupah Activistas Web Wizard: RU There?

Images Raising a child, as we all know, takes a village.  Turns out writing and supporting a blog does, too.  More and more all the time, in fact. So, while we here at Activistas are really passionate on the issues, try hard to stay up on them (not always successfully), and like to think we're terrific writers, web wizards we are not.

That's where you come in.  If. You're a Supah-Dupah Web Wizard. RU?  Or do you know someone who is?  Someone who either already or just might think we're da bomb (strangely enough not everyone does!), and want to help with some blog support... unpaid???  It's summer and all, so maybe someone out there somewhere in blogville needs an unpaid internship, a way to show off her design and web building prowess. We're here, waiting (not so) patiently for your email. Sure, we can keep doing this for awhile, but it would all be better and we'd lose the bags under our eyes if you would just save us from our own fabulous, multitudinous ideas and aspirations.

We are Activistas.  And we thank you.  As do our beyond-patient families.
