taking great photos of your kids

Clients often ask me for tips on taking great photos of their kids at home.  So many people have great cameras now and get frustrated because their photos don't turn out the way they'd like.

The easiest tip I can give you to get started taking photos of your small kids is to GET DOWN.  Get down to their eye level!  This will make such a huge difference in your photos and emphasize their eyes so much more.  After all, they are GORGEOUS, aren't they?  It's such an easy thing to do, and so often I see parents taking photos of their small children from up above, and even if your child is looking up at the camera, you still won't capture as much emotion and personality as you will if you GET DOWN and shoot from their eyeline.

The other huge thing is this:  STOP TELLING YOUR KIDS TO SAY CHEESE!  Instead, keep your camera up to your eye and have a conversation with your child, all the while snapping away as they're talking.  If you do this often enough, they'll get used to it and won't even bother cheesing it up for you anymore.  That's when the magic happens!

Good luck, and email me with the fun photos you get from GETTING DOWN!

Nikky Breathable Poly Diaper Covers
From the Babyworks website (http://babyworks.com): These Nikkys diaper covers have been our top selling diaper cover for years. Customers like them because they are a practical combination of breathable and waterproof. These diaper covers are lightweight and stretchable for comfortable, long wear, and are nearly as breathable as the wool Nikkys. The technology is that the pores of the fabric are large enough to allow air to pass through, but not moisture. Because they are made of synthetic fabric, they they rarely feel wet and dry very quickly.
The covers retail new for $14.50 each.
Five Size S (3 months), like new: $7 each
My son grew so fast, we barely used them.

Prices are firm.

Mothergarden, Nurture's growing free drop-in group for parents & children, invites you to join Joanne Edwards on December 7 from 10:30-noon to share tea, cakes, and your wishlist for Portland parenting resources.

About Joanne:
"I have recently moved to Portland from New Zealand with my husband’s work – we’ve been here four months and I’m looking to set up my company (www.smallbeginningsgroup.com). My background is nursing and health visiting (UK based community nurses with extensive extra training who support families and communities), working with teenage parents and teaching infant massage. I have an extensive range of training, skills and ideas - this is where you come in…

"I would love to meet with lots of Portland mums and dads to hear stories about having babies and children in this city and country (it’s all new to me and very different to what I’m used to). I would like to hear what’s great about it, what’s not so great and what services you would like to see added to make it better. I would also like to tell you a bit more about me and my ideas and experiences from other countries.

"Please join me at Mothergarden for cups of tea, cakes and chats (if you can’t make it and still want to be involved please email me at Joanne@smallbeginningsgroup.com ). Thank you in advance for your time and sharing. I look forward to meeting you. ~Joanne."

Mothergarden is held every Monday from 10:30-noon at Nurture, 1614 NE Alberta St. Parents, partners, expecting parents, and anyone who is interested in creating a parenting community are all welcome.
