Free Talk about Auditory/Language Processing Issues

Janell Schicker, M.A., CCC, Speech-Language Pathologist, will present a free talk on Tuesday, October 6th at 7:00 p.m. about auditory/language processing issues. These types of issues are common and affect listening, reading, spelling, writing, memory, comprehension, test taking and social skills. Auditory/language processing issues are often misdiagnosed for ADD/ADHD, are not outgrown and cannot be helped by traditional tutoring. The talk will be held at Dynamic Learning Services, 1565 Hollowell St, West Linn, 97068.  Please call 503-722-2851 for reservations as seating is limited.

In addition, Janell has written an ebook entitled  “Beyond Tutoring: Strategies to Improve Reading, Spelling, Comprehension and Memory.” This ebook was written for parents to use with children at home, and will be available in the near future on her website at www.DynamicLearningServices.net.

I need some baby stuff!

We're moving from a tiny apartment to a shared house, and we need some stuff! If you've got any of these things that are in decent condition that you're willing to sell at a decent price, please let me know!

1) Baby monitor

2) Doorway gates (one wall-mounted, for the top of stairs, and one or two of the cheapo pressure-mounted kind)

3) Window guard

4) Miscellaneous safety stuff - cabinet locks, and whatever...

5) "Activity center" or exersaucer - anything with a seat for the baby surrounded by stuff. (I'd prefer something relatively simple so her brain doesn't explode.)

Thanks! Please contact me at ostling32 at gmail dot com.

Pregnancy-Related Low Back Pain Study

Researchers at OHSU are comparing three drugless interventions for pregnant women whose low back pain started during pregnancy: exercise, spinal manipulation, and a mind-body therapy called neuroemotional technique. If your are healthy, pregnant with just one baby, and your low back pain wasn't caused by an accident, you may be eligible to participate.

You can join at any time in your pregnancy and then continue until you have your baby. Study visits happen about as frequently as your prenatal care schedule. You will receive $20 for each study visit you attend.

When you come to a study visit you will complete some paperwork, we will evaluate your heartbeat, and we will do a physical exam to find out about your pain. Then you will be randomized to one of the three interventions and receive the treatment. After the treatment we will evaluate your heartbeat again. The first visit takes about 1.5 - 2 hours and the other visits take about 30-45 minutes. You will also complete a one hour interview on your growing up experiences and feelings about your baby.

If you would like more information call Caroline Peterson, DC, PhD, MPH, CPM at 503-367-1172.

  • Or at home

And you want to:

  • Gain information about the childbirth process
  • Learn coping techniques to handle the discomforts of labor
  • Get tips for being a labor support partner
  • Ask your own specific questions

But you can’t:

  • Make it to a childbirth class at the hospital

  • Dedicate 4-6 weeks to attend a class

Then you need:

  • A PRIVATE CHILDBIRTH CLASS!

Private Childbirth Classes can be tailored to accommodate your own specific needs.  We can meet during daytime, evening or weekend hours, based on availability.  My classes are web-enhanced so you take the class online, then we meet for up to 4 hours to discuss your questions and practice the coping techniques.  All done in your own home!

About me:  I am a certified childbirth educator and I teach classes in most of the Portland area hospitals and have attended many hospital births and homebirths as a doula.  I also teach newborn care classes and can provide a home-based class for you with that curriculum as well.  I have over 14 years experience and would love to help support your childbirth education needs!

NEED a retired/stay at home mom bookeeper

Hi,

I am staging a INTERVENTION for a close friend.   I am looking to hire a stay at home mom that has book keeper experience.  My good friend is in dire need of a financial advisor/organizer.

I am looking for a woman that could help my friend ( a single working mom). She is single by choice and has a demanding job.  She makes a  good living, but month after month falls behind on her bills. Even with thousands of dollars in her account......She also needs to file a  few years of back taxes, start some type of savings plan to buy a house , and start saving for her 1 yo daughters education.

She needs someone to organize  and permanently take over her finances. Hopefully this person could get to a point where paying her bills for her everymonth would only take a short time commitment. Also- getting her paperwork ready to go to a CPA for her back tax problem.

10% Off Eco Friendly, Safe Floor Mats by Mimi the Sardine

Haven't we done our fair share of cleaning up messes: under the high chair, under the car seat, and even attempting to remove the "washable paint" from the floor under the easel. Mimi the Sardine has come up with an answer: Floor mats that are eco friendly and machine washable too.

Each floor mat measures 36 x 46 inches and sports cute, brightly colored designs (jungle, pink flora, hybrid car). The fabric is made of organic cotton in Europe and then the fabric is converted to floor mats in California. The fabric is coated with a water-based acrylic ---- no plastic or PVC.  This acrylic coating does not contain any chlorines or DEHP. In fact the fabric meets the European Oek-Tex 100 Standard meaning the cloth does not contain chemicals or compounds harmful to health. And the production plant is monitored to assure healthy working conditions. And if that's not enough, the cloth can be wiped clean or machine washed. Just drop me an email at nlblair@kidzkupboard.com if you have any questions.

Kidz Kupboard is offering all Urban Mamas 10% off Mimi the Sardine floor mats. Just input "mamas" in the coupon box during checkout. And let the messes begin again. Click to take a look.
