outings with a 3 month old

I am a mother of a 3 almost 4 month old.  I have searched the internet for things I can do with her to get us both out of the house, but can not find anything.  I have found many classes and outings once she turns 6 months, but I really would love to get out before then.
I live in SE Portland, so prefer not to drive too far, but I am open.  Perhaps even a mothers group in the Woodstock area?
Thank you for any suggestions.
Stacy

I hear you! My kids are older now but I remeber the newness of wanting to connect with other mamas and wanting to make friends with new mothers who can relate. Check your neighborhood libraries for baby book time. The librarians do a wonderful story half hour with songs and all.
I've seen lots of gatherings listed on urbanmamas calender, too.
When i first moved back to Portland my boy was 6 months old and I had no friends here with babies or kids. I did a lot of searching online for playgroups in the area and had some luck with that. Just search it. You may also find something on meetup.com.

It's fun to attend new mom/breastfeeding groups, baby wearing groups, diaper circles,
and those are all available to young babies. it's a nice social event even if it doesn't start out as an intimate playgroup.

Good Luck! It may take time but you will find your way.

I'm a Woodstock area mama wondering about the exact same thing! I don't want to have to go as far as Beaverton (where so many of the groups are), and even NE is too far for my little one. She does NOT enjoy car rides of any sort.

I'd love to start a moms group on our side of town, and I think I might know another mom or two that would join.
So maybe we could meet up at Papacino's for coffee or something to start with? Or the indoor playground?
(Oh, and my little one is fairly close to yours in age, she just turned 6 months.)

You can email me @ eeerdman@hotmail.com and we could stamp out the details.

You might want to check out the Sellwood Playgroup Association at: http://sellwoodplaygroups.blogspot.com/. The website has a list of events in the Sellwood/Moreland/Woodstock/Brooklyn neighborhoods. In addition, there are links to the playgroups for each year. The playgroups are very welcoming of mamas from the neighborhood (and close by neighborhoods).

1. Book Babies
2. New Season's Breastfeeding and newborn care group at Concordia New Seasons. (they might do this at Sellwood too, I don't know).
3. Depending on where you gave birth, there might be a new mom's group specific to the hospital - Providence New Mom's group at Providence Portland is great and they organize playgroups within the group. You have to have given birth at a providence hospital, but I think you can pay a little bit.

Hi,
My baby is almost a year now (wow!), but I remember feeling the same way when he was little. We need more baby activities in the SE. Book babies at the library is a good place to start, but this week is the last until Jan. Woodstock library does have a baby massage class sometime in the next few weeks though. While my boy is a little older I'd be interested in a 'local' moms group too. I have a friend in Lents who's baby is about the same age as yours, who would probably be interested too.
my e-mail is clairestar.g@gmail.com
Thanks, Claire

Good to know abt Woodstock library baby massage class coming up! Never thot to check the library for baby-centered stuff. I live in n'hood just north of Woodstock, and our "outings" consist of going on walks, errands and up to Division St area. All I really go to in Woodstock is the library and Otto's, so I don't know where could be especially good for baby/mama meetups. I've never met up with people I don't know, but I imagine the easiest way to do this would be "woodstock library noon tuesday for moms and kiddos under 1" or something simple like that? Maybe this website could start up a category for those sorts of posts? For those of us new to Portland especially, or even 1st time moms, it could really have a use.

Some of us read this thread and decided to get a Woodstock Mamas group together. We're meeting this Thursday (12/4) at 1:30pm at the Woodstock Library (in their meeting room). Come on by if you're free!
