Need baby stuff.

We're expecting a baby in April, and we need (cheap) stuff (that doesn't take up too much space). I'm looking for used, decent-quality stuff, but am not picky about things like color, pattern, stains, etc. Here's my wish list:

1. Cosleeper (regular or mini size) or Amby hammock
2. Moby wrap or a similar baby carrier
3. Nursing bras and tank tops (along the lines of 38C)
4. Gender neutral baby clothes in all sizes (no synthetic fabrics)
5. Maternity clothes, office casual (size large, mostly - pants in size 12)
6. Diaper covers in all sizes (I'm thinking Bumkins or Bummis, but a variety is great)
7. Miscellaneous stuff - old cloth diapers to use as rags, receiving blankets, half a package of disposable diapers, whatever!
8. Bouncy seat/baby gym/etc.

If you're looking to sell/rent any of these items, please let me know! You can reach me at sara [at] gmail [dot] com.

New Doctor in Sellwood

Dear UrbanMamas,

I am a board certified family physician, opening a solo private practice in Sellwood; until now I’ve been working and teaching at OHSU and continue to be an Assistant Professor there. The Open House is Tuesday, December 2nd 7PM to 9PM, EVERYONE WELLCOME.

I do not do immunizations (and don’t believe much in them), but otherwise provide a full range of adult and child medical care (until June of 2008 I did obstetrics and in-patient care too, but stopped that to focus on teaching and out-patient work).

I am also an urbanpapa with 2 boys, 7 and 8 year old, of my own.

Seeking Chiropractic Assistance/LMT Position

Chiropractic Assistant/Licensed Massage Therapist Position Wanted:
I am looking for a part time position as a chiropractic assistant, with the potential to stay on as a massage therapist after I receive my license in early 2009.  One of my best resources for anything mama related has been my local "urbanMamas" parenting community.  I thought I would make a post here with my goals, ideas, and motivations in case anyone out there is, or knows of a local chiropractor looking for some help in this area.

My proposal:  Ideally I would love to find a position one day a week (to start) as a chiropractic assistant while I study for my LMT boards this winter, with progression into a massage therapist position post licensure.  Once I have my license I have the idea for a promotional program in a chiropractor's office to both bring in new clientele (for the chiropractor) as well as to thank current patients for their referrals.

Pregnant? Wish you could afford a doula?

Hello mamas and mamas-to-be,

I'm a birth doula working toward my DONA certification.   I'm looking for one client due mid/late-Febuary to mid-March to help me complete my certification.  I am offering my services for free since I am still a "student-doula."  My services include 2-3 prenatal visits; on-call 24 hours a day for 2 weeks on both sides of the due date; and 2 postpartum visits.

As a doula, my goal is to help women and their families feel informed, confident and empowered during the birth of their child.  Through emotional support I strive to give mothers the confidence to birth their babies the way that is best for them, regardless of the path they take.

I have a special interest in working with non-native English speakers and all foreign-born populations.  Having given birth to my son whilst living in Japan, I am especially empathetic towards women who are going through this same experience.  I hope to provide them a safe-haven for having a birth experience that is within their cultural expectations.  But I am absolutely open to all potential clients, regardless of background.

I completed my doula training course and a six-month internship with Mothertree Birth Services here in Portland.

Sincerely,

Liberty Wilson (615-406-6273)

The Learning Tower - Donation

This is an awesome opportunity to support local business, benefit a PPS K-8 school, and get your hands on a special order Learning Tower.

Here's the scoop: Ella at Queens Mab on Killingsworth (formerly Tickled Pink) donated a Learning Tower to the Astor School auction fundraiser. It didn't sell, so we decided to post on urbanMamas to a community more likely to use The Learning Tower. The proceeds will go to Astor School, the winning bidder will get a fabulous item in the color of choice, and Ella gets to show off a very cool item she carries at the store.

What is a Learning Tower, you ask?  The website has great information as well as the 9 (!) colors you can choose from.  http://www.mylearningtower.com/

We've listed it on ebay, with local pick-up the only option.

Where to Donate?

I have a lot of brand new baby blankets (all kinds, but some crocheted), brand new board books, and more. My son just cannot use all of these things. Is there a place I can donate these things (I dont want to sell them at a shop, just give). We live in SE so if there are any places specifically around here, please let me know.

250 sq ft Commercial Space for Rent-$550 per month

A cute little space available for rent in the back of our music school.  You would have your own seperate entrance, your own bathroom (with shower) and two rooms including a sink, cabinets for storage and a gas line (for an oven if needed).  Would be a great office space, music related retail or recording space, art studio, or even a small commercial kitchen space.  Must not mind possible noise coming from the music school.  Available immediately and lease terms negotiable.  Includes all utilities.  Contact Fara at 503 282 9999 to come check it out or for more info.

Survey of Mother's Sleep & Fatigue

Participate in a study on sleep and breastfeeding mothers. This study is open to all mothers with babies 0-12 months old. We would like to include breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding women, and women of all ethnicities and income levels.

We hope to document:

  • Where & how much babies sleep
  • Are mothers who breastfeed and co-sleep less tired than mothers who don't?
  • Are mothers telling their friends, relatives, and health care providers where their babies sleep?
  • Are there ethnic group differences in where babies sleep?
  • What is the role of depression, psychological trauma and difficult birth in mothers' ongoing daytime fatigue?

The questionnaire takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete and is confidential. It has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Amarillo, Texas. The link for the survey is: http://neonatal.ttuhsc.edu/lact
