Host a wine tasting at your home!

I am an independent wine consultant for WineShop At Home, a California-based  wine company that specializes in limited production, hand-crafted wines and wine education. I conduct guided in-home wine tastings that are a fun way to try different wines in a comfortable setting and a lovely way to spend an afternoon or an evening with friends or colleagues.

Please visit my website (http://www.wineshopathome.com/sarapadilla) to read more about our artisan wines and tasting opportunities . These wines cannot be found in your local grocery stores! Gorgeous gift baskets, stemware and wine-related accessories  are also available on my website, including unique personalized labels for bottles of wine that you can design yourself. The labeled bottles a special way to wish someone a merry Christmas or a happy anniversary. Wines may be shipped to 18 participating states.

I would be delighted to conduct a wine tasting for your friends in your home. Business will be busy during the holiday season! If you are interested in joining my team and becoming an independent wine consultant, please give me a call or send me an e-mail to learn more about next steps.  I really appreciate your support!

New to Portland-- and pregnancy. Can you recommend a doctor?

Hello, Urban Mamas. I'm glad to see such a wonderful site exists here in Portland!

I just moved to Portland a month ago, and the change of scenery must have done me good because I became pregnant just a couple weeks later.

So, while I'm not having bouts of sadness and panic about being far away from my family and friends, I'm searching out the care of an excellent OB/GYN. I spent hours on the internet doing some research (that's when I found urbanMamas) and it looks as though Providence Medical Center and Women's Health Today have had many satisfied patients. I called today and made an appointment with Dr. Nancy Grant at WHT. Does anyone know or have had any experiences with her? If so, I'd love to hear about it.

I'd also like to hear recommendations for other docs. (My appointment isn't until 10/14-- week 10!-- so I have some time to evaluate my choices.)

Thanks in advance for your replies.

cheers-
K.D.

Volunteer Op: Nursing Mothers Counsel

Greetings!
This is a public service announcement from the Nursing Mothers Counsel of Oregon (NMC).  NMC is a nonprofit organization that strives to improve health in our communities by advocating a women's right to breastfeed her child.  We are developing free breastfeeding classes and other services to provide to our communities.  We do not do any paid advertising.  Having our homes in the Portland Metro area leaves us a wealth of opportunity to reach people through our community newspapers and other publications.  We are currently advertising our fall training to recruit new volunteers. Please run the following ad in your community listing/calendar sections.

Thank you very much for your support!  Please contact me with any questions.

The Nursing Mothers Counsel of Oregon is actively seeking new volunteers. If you wish to become a phone counselor and have had at least six months of breastfeeding experience, or you do not have the breastfeeding experience and wish to volunteer in other ways, please come to our free training held at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital.  Learn how to counsel women on common breastfeeding issues, train to teach breastfeeding classes, and help improve the rates of breastfeeding in our communities.  We are reaching out to diverse populations and really need volunteers that represent these communities.  Women of diverse ethnic backgrounds and bilingual women are in very high demand!  For more information, please visit our website at www.nursingmotherscounsel.org and click on the “Promote” button or call Madia at 503-516-6471, you can also email her at raddoula@yahoo.com.

Two exchange students in Portland need homes- already here!

Hi Mamas and Papas,

As a Local Coordinator for the student exchange organization CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange, www.ciee.org) I am excited to say that we have over 15 high school exchange students placed in the greater Portland area for this coming school year!  Yay!  That's not why I'm writing this post, however.  I'm writing you all with a plea to consider hosting, or consider those you know who might be able to host, one of our two last boys who are currently in "Welcome Families" in our area.  Both boys are sweet, hard-working, and academically-inclined kids who are patiently waiting to be taken in for the year.  Could your family consider hosting one of them?

One of the boys is from Bangladesh and the other is from Thailand, and both are 16 years old.  Host families are volunteers who choose to host because they want to share their culture and home with a student from abroad.  The families are responsible for providing the student with a bed, a quiet place to study, and most meals.  The students bring their own spending money and are fully insured for medical and dental coverage through CIEE.  Both students and families are expected to bring love, enthusiasm and patience to the exchange experience!

Please contact me, Dory Hobbs, at your earliest convenience if you have any leads on families for these boys.  My number is 503-292-4212, or you can email me at dorianne.hyatthobbs@gmail.com.  These boys are here and need homes before school starts!!  Thank you so much for your consideration!!

Free samples of holistic product for kids cough/cold

With sneeze season right around the corner, and given the FDA’s anticipated announcement of banning all cough and cold medicines for children four and under – I wanted to share an all-natural idea with other urbanmamas.

An all-natural, organic remedy that provides relief to children with colds and/or allergies and has been popular in Europe for 75 years is just now being introduced in the United States. It is called Sinupret For Kids and is made by a leading German pharmaceutical company that offers plant-based products: www.BionoricaUSA.com.

If you are interested in holistic remedies and know of other moms who would be as well, please consider sharing some samples with friends, co-workers or family members.

I can get you 30 samples in an easy to transport bag so you can leave it in your car, by your front door or under your desk at work and share them with people as you see them. I will hand deliver samples in late September to those interested. The people giving out the kits will also get some gifts including a book by Dr. Sears (The Healthiest Kid in the Neighborhood: Ten Ways to Get Your Family on the Right Nutritional Track).

I have a 18-month old son, and have been following the news about how dangerous the drug based cold medicines can be, so I am excited that this product is coming to the US. The same company also makes an adult cold/sinus product and you will also get a sample of that in to try out.

I’ll include lots more info below, and am also happy to answer any questions you have. I really need your help getting these samples into our community!

What can parents do to relieve cough and congestion when their young kids catch a cold or flu?
We suggest you try a natural alternative called SINUPRET. This plant-based pharmaceutical grade natural cold and cough medicine has been used in Europe for decades as a primary treatment for kids of all ages, and it just became available in the U.S. Not only does it relieve nasal and chest congestion and help clear out mucus, it also boosts the body's own immune response to infections to help clear them out faster. It comes as a liquid or capsules. For more information visit www.BionoricaUSA.com.
