Calling all Mamas! We want your birth stories!

This fall, the Oregon Midwifery Council will be presenting a BOLD: Red Tent Event. To read more about the project, click below: http://www.birthonlaborday.com/redtent/howto.html  The birth stories of about 10 local women will be performed (either by an actress, or the mother herself), to an audience of a few hundred.  These stories will represent a variety of births: home, birth center, and hospital. Vaginal and Cesarean, old and young mamas, first babies and fifth babies, all walks of life, etc, etc.

Birth stories can be submitted by email to: boldbirthstories@gmail.com, or by mail to: c/o Andaluz Birth Center, 19255 SW 65th Ave - Ste 220, Tualatin, OR, 97062. Please include with your birth story: 1. your contact info, 2. if you want to perform your own story, a photograph of yourself.  There are no restrictions on length of birth story submissions, we will edit as needed for time constraints - for the submission, more story is always better than less!  No compensation will be made for the stories, and no entries will be returned. If you have any questions about this project, or if you want to get involved, or advertise in the program, please email boldbirthstories@gmail.com.

Fabulous Organic Meals Delivered to Your Door

I just tried this amazing service called Building Blocks Foods (http://buildingblocksfoods.com/) and I love it!

I am such a busy mom with running my own biz and my husband is gone two evenings every week so coming home and cooking with a baby and toddler is well, not possible. We usually end up with take out on the nights he is gone…until I found Jon’s site. He delivers dishes that you have selected from his weekly rotating menu. They are vegetarian, organic and ummm, umm good. Such a saver from another night of Thai or pizza. Thank you Jon!

Munire Crib Recall

As we were trying to lower the mattress support on our daughter's crib last night, I happened to look up the manufacturer's website to find instructions on how to do so, and noticed a recall for her crib that was coincidentally posted the same day. (We purchased our crib at Segal's in June of 2007.) The recall is in effect for several of the manufacturer's cribs because the support brackets on the mattress support spring are too long, preventing the spring from lowering to the full 26 inch minimum height in its lowest position, allowing children inside to crawl over the railing, posing a fall hazard.

To correct the hazard Munire is sending new replacement spring brackets to anyone who has a recalled crib. I called today, and it was very easy; they're sending the replacement brackets out today. I just wanted to pass on this information in case there are any other mamas out there who purchased Munire cribs in the past two years and have not seen the recall information.

Play Groups for 1-Year Old in NE

I'm looking for a play group for 12-18 month olds. My second child, a daughter, just turned one. When her older brother was this age I was well connected to a great moms' group (in NY), so he had many play dates with kids his age. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in Portland with kids my daughters age. I would love to meet some new moms, and she would LOVE to have some friends to play with from time to time. We'd be up for meeting at the park or at our house for a play date. If we get a group together, maybe we can rotate houses? We're open to ideas. I live in NE Portland, and would love to find folks relatively close by. Email me if you're interested in getting together with our 1+ year olds at palight_2000@yahoo.com.

Couple of coupons to pass along

I have some check-out style coupons we won't use and would like to pass along.  They have to be redeemed at Albertsons and one of them expires tomorrow.  (I tried to Freecycle them but found out it's not ok to Freecycle paper that encourages buying new.  Makes sense, but that's why it took me so long to offer them here!)

1) Save $2 on ONE any size Pampers Diapers Jumbo pack or larger.  Expires 3/24/08 (yes, tomorrow!)
2) Save $4.50 on any size Powder Enfamil LIPIL.  Expires 5/21/08.

I'd be happy to mail off the Enfamil coupon to someone, but seeing as the Pampers coupon expires tomorrow (did I mention that?) I think you would have to come pick it up.  We are in Hillsboro, nearest cross streets are Main/Baseline and Brookwood.

Please email me at kathleen.youell@yahoo.com and let me know when you'd like to come by.  Don't worry about my schedule as I can just put it in an envelope on the porch for you if we won't be home.

Waldorf style wood play stand

We received 2 of these wonderful wood playstands. Our house can barely fit one much less 2.  We are selling one brand new for $100 that is much less than online + shipping.  These stands are great for imaginative pretend play of all sorts.

Please contact mausjuli@gmail.com if interested and I can send you a photo as well. Thanks
