Title: National Program Manager, Eco-Healthy Childcare
Status: Regular, exempt position
Reports to: Director of Programs
Hours: Full-Time, Limited-Duration (2 years)
Compensation: Commensurate with Experience; competitive benefits package
Scope of Responsibility
Through our Eco-Healthy Childcare (EHCC) program, the
Oregon Environmental Council (OEC) recognizes and promotes childcare facilities
that qualify as “eco-healthy” by taking a series of steps to make
their childcare environment as toxic-free as possible. The EHCC program delivers
technical assistance and training to childcare providers on reducing toxins,
while endorsing providers committed to best-practice techniques and creating a
market demand for these providers. The EHCC (www.oeconline.org/kidshealth/ehcc)
program received an award from the Environmental Protection Agency last year
for its innovative and effective approach. Because many childcares outside of Oregon’s borders
have expressed interest in the program, OEC has received a grant to expand EHCC
to at least five additional states, while designing a plan to nationalize the
program.
The National Program Manager will work with large nationally focused childcare providers to integrate eco-healthy practices throughout their childcare facilities, build support for EHCC among national environmental health organizations and organizations that serve low-income and non-English speaking communities, and design a plan to make the program available to childcare facilities across the nation. The National Program Manager will re-design existing materials to reflect a national presence,
develop new program resources (including translation of program materials into at least two additional languages), and help secure national media coverage.
The National Program Manager will also do outreach to national parent
organizations to increase demand for EHCCs. The National Program Manager will
work closely with OEC’s Outreach Program Director, who leads OEC’s
healthy kids outreach programs. These programs help parents and caregivers
secure and act on the information they need to protect children from exposures
to toxic pollution.
The position is of limited-duration (two years) based on
grant funding, and will require some out-of-state travel. Some evening and
weekend work is also required.
OEC safeguards what Oregonians love about Oregon – clean air
and water, an unpolluted landscape and healthy food produced by local farmers.
For nearly 40 years we’ve been a champion for solutions to protect the health
of every Oregonian and the health of the place we call home. Our vision for Oregon includes solving
global warming, protecting kids from toxins, cleaning up our rivers, building
sustainable economies, and ensuring healthy food and local farms. OEC is based
in Portland, Oregon,
which was recently ranked one of the most sustainable cities in the United States
by SustainLane. Find out more about OEC at www.oeconline.org.
This is a highly responsible position in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, and requires focus, dedication and an ability to juggle multiple projects and leverage tight budgets. OEC offers a collaborative, team-oriented, family-friendly workplace that treats employees as the responsible professionals they are. Hours are flexible, benefits are generous, and laughter is frequent.
