ISO: Attorney

Hi,
We just moved to NE Portland from Seattle (me, J., and baby Asa - 6 months) last week and are in need of an attorney.  We need someone who is ethical and is preferably less that $200/hr.  It'd be nice if they deal well in business law, but general legal work is fine, too.  We need a lot of help getting out of an awful business situation in Seattle.  It is the primary reason we moved here and we really just want to get on with our lives.

Please email me at kelly@mymarsupial.com if you have any recommendations!

Thanks!
Kelly

Seeking babies 12-19 mos old for research

If you have a baby younger than two years, we invite you to participate in research on infant development at Reed College. At the Cognitive Development Project, we study how infants learn about the
world around them.

*We have a special need for babies between 12 months and 19 months right now!*

For more information, visit our website:
http://academic.reed.edu/psychology/faculty.html

In our playroom on the campus of Reed College in SE Portland, we create situations that are safe and fun for children. By studying the way babies behave in different situations, we learn more about how
their minds work.  For example, one current study examines whether infants learn words better when the repetitions of the word are grouped together or spaced apart, with other images shown in between.

Each study requires only a 1-hour visit to our playroom. We might show your child a new toy or a short video. You would stay with your child the whole time. Babies usually have fun because they see new toys and get friendly adult attention! To thank you, we offer a cute child's t-shirt, and we can reimburse your travel expenses.

For more information, or to schedule a visit, please reply to this message or call the CDP to speak with a researcher.

Looking for original crib sets

My husband and I were looking for a crib this weekend, and naturally starting eying the crib sets. The ones we really like were about $400, which is equal to or more than a crib itself! Ack! Does anyone have any suggestions for stores that sell crib sets that aren't the very cute, but more common, jungle/sea/train theme for boys and that are affordable? OR, even better, does someone have a great crib set for sale or  maybe know someone who could make us a high quality crib set for less? Thanks!!

Seeking Mama Stories: prepping child for hospital

I am a freelancer writer (and mom!) working on an article about preparing a child for hospitalization. I'm looking to interview parents whose child may have been hospitalized, either for minor surgery or something more serious.  Is this something you would consider posting to your site? I would ask respondents to contact me by email so we could set up a mutually convenient time for phone interview.
Many thanks,

MotherTalk seeks PT Publicist

We need to hire a part-time publicist, and who better to turn to than our own community? We thought about Craig's List. We thought about the local university. We thought about our girlfriends and sisters and even eyed the teenage babysitter. And we met lots of great people who are smart and capable and motivated. But that's not enough. We need someone who really gets MotherTalk. We need a blogger who believes in the power of books to transform our lives, someone who understands the incredible reach and grass-roots nature of online communities and can balance it with a dash of business acumen, someone who wonders why newspaper reviews are rarely about the books that matter to women. Someone like ... you?
Title: Publicist

Description
  • Part-time, working from home (jammies optional).
  • 12-15 hours a week. You must be able to "show up" each day Monday through Friday to post that day's reviews.
  • Schedule and run blog tours. Send tour invitations, create and communicate schedules and review guidelines, chase missing reviews, find missing books, write book summaries, post excerpts on MotherTalk Web site, maintain reviewer database.
  • Compensation: $12/hour plus free books.
Requirements
  • Psychotic organization skills; the ability to keep track of many itty bitty details.
  • Excellent writing skills, as demonstrated on your blog and in email. We care less about Strunk & White and more about a warm and friendly tone that's also super-clear and concise, plus extremely tactful when necessary.
  • Your blog must be at least 6 months old and updated at least
    2-3 times a week.
  • Basic HTML knowledge is required. You must be able to code a link, embed an image (plus align and size it), plus do simple formatting like bold and italics. It also helps to be fearless and cheerful about figuring out what you don't know.
  • Review experience is helpful, especially if it's been for MotherTalk. (Please send permalinks to any reviews.)
  • Access to a broadband connection is helpful, since all of our work is online.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
The details are below. To apply, just email marjorie [at ] mother-talk [dot] com with your blog URL and tell us why you meet the requirements. You don't need to send a resume, but if you have relevant work experience we'd love to hear about it. And please note: You won't hear a response until this weekend at the earliest -- we want to give everyone a chance to read and respond. Thanks for thinking about it!  Also check out the site at http://www.mother-talk.com/wp/

Parenting Magazine seeks "Tots' Tall Tales"

I'm a Portlander who writes regularly for Parenting, the national newsstand magazine. For a short article I'm working on, I'm looking for parents willing to share their stories. The piece is about kids who tell "tall tales." You know what I mean--your daughter tells her schoolmates she's going to Disneyland this weekend (um, you're not going anywhere) or announces to her teacher that "Mom is pregnant!" (um, you're definitely NOT!). It's not malicious lying-- it's more like wishful thinking.
I need a couple of examples of kids ages 3 to 5 who told a tall tale like this. Think any Urban Mama readers would be willing to share? Would you be willing to post something on your blog? If so, here's the scoop: Readers need to be willing to share their full name and their child's name along with their story. The child must have been in the 3-5 age range when the incident happened, but it's OK if they're slightly older now. Please e-mail me a brief description of your story at tcwrites@gmail.com by Friday, Oct. 12. Please include an e-mail address and phone number. I'll contact you directly if I can include your story.
