Fall 2009 Family Playgroups, Parents & Kids, Shining Star Waldorf School

Fall Family Playgroups are Starting at Shining Star Waldorf School.  Intended for families with younger children who wish to gather on Friday mornings for play, circle, seasonal crafts and cooking, watercolor painting and community festivals....we have a seven year tradition of affordable Waldorf education and we are thrilled to add Mariya Burns as our Fall Family Playgroup teacher.

Up to 8 families will be admitted for each term.  There will be three terms of 10 weeks each, and the cost per term is $120.  A full year enrollment is $360 per year.

Class meets on Fridays from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at 602 NE Prescott in our beautiful Linden Tree Kindergarten Room. 

Come and enjoy quiet and meaningul times with friends of like minds and parenting beliefs.  We are nature lovnig, artistic, and community minded.....the tea pot is bubbling and the beeswax candles are glowing and the hand made wooden toys are waiting with the hand-dyed silks...come and join us!

Feedback about Apple Blossom, Blossom House, or Mother Earth Preschools?

Hello fellow Portland Parents!

I am looking for some feedback from parents (or even former teachers) who have had their children attend one of the following three preschools:

• Apple Blossom Nursery School
• Blossom House Preschool 
• Mother Earth Childcare  

I am considering all three schools for my son and will be visiting them in the next week to form my own opinions, but I would LOVE to hear any firsthand accounts of people who've had their children in one of these schools.  Please email me at hcullom@aol.com with any feedback that you might have, whether positive or negative.

(My son was abused at a daycare about a year ago [despite my valiant efforts to do everything "right" in screening the daycare, questioning parents, showing up unannounced, etc], so I am even more nervous about finding childcare than your average parent.  We've had a wonderful nanny for the past year, but she is leaving us because she needs to spend more time with her three pre-teen and teenage boys.)

I would be EVER grateful for any advice or feedback anyone can give me!

If you'd like to suggest another option, that's great too, but I am a single mama so I need full-time preschool (full days, 4-5 days per week) and can't do co-ops or other schools that only offer half day programs.  If you have any other great ideas, please pass them along too!

Holistic Nursery Ages 18-36 Months

At Child Light Nursery and Parenting Center, we strive to nurture the hearts of all children and provide them with models of goodness as they grow into their most whole, true, and exuberant selves. Aengus Og EcoSchool Grand Opening

Aengus Og EcoSchool, a bilingual (Spanish), Waldorf-inspired preschool and kindergarten is opening August 1st in the Montavilla community of SE Portland.  The half-day curriculum is led by an Oregon certified teacher.  Vegetarian breakfast and lunch included.

Wild Lilac Preschool's May Faire

Wild Lilac is Opening a new program for 2-3 year olds in September 2008. It will be located at 1629 SE 49th Ave off Hawthorne.

Wild Lilac's "Daffodil House" is a sweet and gentle Waldorf inspired morning program offering children a play environment for 2-3 year olds. The Daffodil House is a place where children can have a safe, fun and nurturing social experience. Intended to foster confidence and a sense of security in young preschoolers, the Daffodil House is a warm, loving environment where children are guided gently, and encouraged to make meaning of their feelings and experiences. Daffodil House curriculum honors the children developmentally with open-ended projects (daily art, baking and gardening!) that are based in the seasons of the natural world, engaging circle times, and lots of open play.

Mother Earth Kindergarten

Rowanberry School Open House

Rowanberry School will host our annual Open House on Saturday, February 9th from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Now Hiring Nurturing Infant Care Giver

Child Light Infant Nursery is located in the Jennings Lodge neighborhood of Milwaukie. We are a small,Waldorf inspired, RIE and attachment parenting based Nursery. The teacher/infant ratio is 1:4.

Your Qualifications:
At least one year of professional child care experience in some capacity is a must. Waldorf and RIE training isn't a requirement, although knowledge of these philosophy's is very helpful. Children's yoga teachers and parenting educator's are encouraged to apply.

You must be enrolled in the Criminal History Registry before starting work. It is a simply thing and takes only about a week if you have lived in Oregon for the last 18 months. You should start the process now, if you plan on working at any legal child care facility in Oregon. You can call 800.556.6616 for help onthis. Within the first 30 days of employment, you will need to be certified in Pediatric CPR & First Aid, take a Recognizing a Reporting Child Abuse Class and have a food handlers card.

You need to be nurturing, organized, respectful, well spoken and be able to work well with the other providers.

Hours and Days:
1:30-6:30 Monday - Friday

Salary:
You will work between 15 and 25 hours per week and the starting salary is between $8 - $10 per hour, depending on experience. You will be paid on the 5th and the 20th of each month.
