~Terrific Part Time/ Full Time Nanny Open at the end of the Month!~

GREAT NANNY, JUST FOR YOU!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jillian M. Currently I am looking for a new position as a Nanny. I was involved in a Nanny-share for almost the duration of the year but as the contract term ended and the children turned 1 they were placed in Montessori. I am comfortable doing either another nanny-share, or working for one family. I am comfortable working with up to 3 infants, depending on their ages, 4 toddlers, or 5 children in total but this would really depend on the overall dynamic of the situation. I am also comfortable doing care in your home, or mine. Ideally the position would provide at least 36 hours a week, but this is also flexable as I explore my options.

Here's a little information about me. I have an immense amount of experience with children. I started my babysitting career at 12 years old, after I received my Oregon babysitters training, and CPR certification. Since then, I have had experience in taking care of about 25 different children, usually two or more at a time (five max), in in-home settings. My experience with children ranges from newborns to 13-year-olds. About half of my clientele has been parents of children diagnosed with Autism. I have also worked and volunteered with a school that caters to meeting the needs of children diagnosed with Autism . My tasks at the school included building a summer reading program for some of the more advanced students. I directed the students during "signing times" videos (videos that teach the children sign language). I did teacher aide duties in the classrooms working extensively with the pre-schoolers, and in the occupational therapy room. In addition to this experience, I was also a camp counselor in high-school at Camp Howard outdoor school for 2 seasons.

I love to do activities with children. I am not the type of care provider who will sit children in front of the TV and do my own thing. Just to be clear, I rather children have no screen time during my time with them. I prefer for children to have fun. If the parent permits, I like to take them on outings to the park, or maybe a day to the zoo, children's museum, library, or swimming pool depending on the child's interest. I love doing art projects, or fun cooking activities, playing board games, and will even happily partake in dress up or tea parties. As well as making sure the children enjoy the time we spend together, I firmly believe in education. I like to come up with developmentally appropriate activities that stimulate the intellectual growth of each child. For school aged children I come in great handy for help with homework.

I am a student and am working towards a degree in early childhood education. I take courses through the local community college's online program, when I transfer next year I will continue primarily with online education. I am familiar with many learning/parenting styles includingMontessori, Waldorf, Attachment Parenting, and Positive Redirection. What I am unfamiliar with, I am willing to learn. My time spent with your children is based on your needs, their needs, and your parenting beliefs. I am very flexiable when it comes to this as I understand it is your child and I enjoy learning new styles.

I have a license, car insurance, and a car for transporting needs. In addition, I know basic Spanish, and am furthering my skills incase you are interested in your child learning a second language.

I would ideally like a position that offers at least a 1 year contract.

Best,
Jillian

Amazing Au Pairs Available

July 20, 2012

Hey mamas,

We have two Au Pairs who are currently in the US but here as Au Pairs that are looking to continue with a host family.

There are many more amazing Au Pairs available as well. If you have a certain language or culture you want your Au Pair to come from let me know and I can send you a few that may work for you.

Right now the two I am trying to find host families for in Portland are Irina and Stacey.

StaceyLM

Stacey is about to turn 19 years old, has three younger brothers ages, 17, 13 & 1 and is from North Lakes, Australia.  Stacey had her own car in Australia and has been driving while participating in the au pair program.

Stacey’s childcare experience includes working in a school setting with children between the ages of 3 months and 12 years old.  She also provided care for a brother and sister aged 5.  She also provided care for her youngest brother.

IrinaIJ

Irina is 19 years old, has an older brother and is from Disentis, Switzerland.  In addition to fluent German and fluent and Rhaeto-Romance Irina speaks strong English as well as basic French.

Irina’s childcare experience includes caring for three siblings over the course of two years.  They were 10, 9 and 5 when Irina started caring for them.  She also cared for a little girl from the time was 4 until she was 6.

Irina’s hobbies include snowboarding, tennis, volleyball and swimming.  She also plays piano and took singing lessons when she was younger.

Stacey and Irina are participating in the State Department Au Pair program. The State Department created the program in 1987 as a childcare option and cultural exchange experience for American families. We have been participating in the program since 1989 and have placed over 80,000 au pairs with American Families. Please contact me for more information about either Au Pair or the au pair program.

A little about me, I am a local mom here in pdx and I am passionate about attachment parenting, the environment and creativity. I work with an amazing Au Pair program and I believe it fits well with so many Portland families. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or are interested or pass my name and info along! Cheers!

What I have done before has sometimes gone beyond *just* child care (though it certainly has included it!). I have been a more tradititional nanny, but I have also developed what is more akin to in-home preschool/ elementary school with a large dose of silliness and fun. I love assisting children in their own discoveries and activities, such as art, cooking, gardening/plant care, flower arranging, the Spanish language, and much much more depending on the needs and interests of each unique child.

Should you be interested, I am also offering an additional service wherein I can create an age-appropriate Montessori environment in your home, which maximizes your child's independence and fosters opportunities for learning. This can be accomplished on almost any budget.

I am infant/child CPR and first-aid certified and bilingual (Spanish), and am currently seeking full time work. I am also willing to do some evening/weekend work.

I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children!

Common Au Pair Myths by USAuPair

May 08, 2012

Au pair with boy in yard

Before discussing common myths, below is a brief explanation about au pairs.

Au pairs are a child care alternative for families who want:

  • In-home child care
  • Bi-lingual child care
  • Flexible child care
  • Quality child care
  • Intercultural child care
  • Affordable child care

Au pairs are young adults from foreign countries participating in a cultural exchange program. They live with American host families for one year or longer.  In exchange for room, board and a weekly wage of $195.75, au pairs provide up to 45 hours of flexible child care weekly, up to 10 hours daily.  Agency program fees cover screening, travel fare to the U.S., medical insurance for one year, background checks, au pair attendance at 3.5 day workshop on child development and safety, and much more.

Common Myths

  1. Au Pairs don't speak English - Au pairs must have a conversational level of English. USAuPair au pairs take an English exam and score at a pre-intermediate level.  USAuPair measures grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and written expression.  Au pairs may need assistance with verbal comprehension.
  2. We lose our privacy - Au pairs take classes, make friends and develop a healthy social network.  As one experienced family once said, "Au pairs are not peeking around corners watching you. When off duty, they are engaged with their friends and activities."
  3. Au pairs need a private bathroom - Au pairs may share a bathroom.
  4. All au pairs smoke - Not all au pairs smoke.  USAuPair au pairs sign a no-smoking contract.
  5. Au pairs are expensive - At an average weekly cost between $310 to $320 per family, not per child, au pairs are an affordable child care alternative.  This average weekly cost includes USAuPair's program fee.
  6. Au pairs don't drive - USAuPair au pairs have a minimum of six months driving experience. Driving varies greatly among countries.  Individual driving habits vary greatly among au pairs - from extreme overconfidence to extreme careful.
  7. Au pairs want to party, not care for children - Young adults need a healthy social life. USAuPair's Au Pair Code of Conduct establishes au pair behavior guidelines.  USAuPair's Handbook and Guide covers many topics and helpful tips for families and au pairs.
  8. Families who rent cannot have au pairs - Families who rent may host au pairs.  However, au pairs must have a private bedroom.
  9. Housekeeping is not allowed - Au pairs may perform light housekeeping tasks related to the children in their care.  This includes laundering childrens clothes, tidying their rooms, cleaning up spills, preparing their meals, changing their bed linens, grocery shopping.
  10. Single parents cannot host au pairs - Sngle parent families may host au pairs.

The au pair program is an enriching cultural exchange program for families and au pairs.  Au pairs learn about American culture by living with an American host family.  Host family children learn about other countries, cultures and languages.   Sshuttle

USAuPair au pairs arrive in Portland for their 3.5 day workshop.  Portland area families pick up their au pairs at a local hotel upon workshop completion.

Contact USAuPair for more information about au pairs and the au pair program.  503-675-5333.

Fun Loving Nanny Available

Hello!

I am looking for a new family to care for. I have been a Nanny for the past 4 years. I am 28 years old, married and have a 10 month old son.  My son will be coming with me, but your chidren will always get the best of care when I am in your home. You will always come home to a clean house.

I am looking for a laid back fun family! I love to make sure the kids get outside and play instead of sitting in front of the tv. I am not totally against tv but like to keep it very limited. I have a zoo membership so I would enjoy taking the kids!  I like to read, play board games, color and paint for those rainy cold Portland days.

I am with a family 42 hours a week. I watch 3 boys ages 1, 6, & 9.  My duties include; meal prep for children, changing diapers, helping with homework and reading, light household chores, driving kids to and from school.  I love this family but am needing to find something with less hours.

I would love to talk with you more in detail! Please email me: lisadmempsey@gmail.com

Thanks!

Lisa

Looking for an affordable loving nanny?

May 07, 2012

Hello. I am a 25 year old mother, and part time student looking for a family in need of a part time nanny.  My family and I just moved, so I lost my job as a nanny, where I was caring for another child along with my own, within my own home. Now I’m looking for a part time child to care for outside the home, where I can potentially bring my own 2 year old daughter with me.

I am highly qualified to be your nanny. Before having my own daughter, I was employed at CCLC “Children’s creative learning center”, as a full time toddler teacher. Before that, I was employed at A Childs Kingdom working mainly with toddlers, and infants. I have worked part time in a few other licensed child care centers, and I’ve been employed as a nanny for two different families. Over all, I have nine years working with children and I love doing it.

I contain an abundant of skills including empathy, energy, communication, listening, playfulness, creativity, organization, multi-tasking etc.

If I sound like I could be a good fit for your childcare needs, please feel free to email me at:

itskatelin@gmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you!

February 09, 2012

Frontroomdaycare1Hello and welcome to Misty's Little Ones Daycare. My name is Misty McCleary, owner/teacher at Misty's Little Ones Daycare. I strongly believe in children being in a safe, home environment during the younger years of their life while they are away from their primary caregivers. I offer just that: While parents are at work, school or out running errands, I offer a safe place with lots of love, learning and individual attention for your child. If you have multiple children, great I welcome them!

In my home, I have created a nurturing and loving environment where children are encouraged to explore, share their interests and to have their needs met. My goal in this environment, is to have it feel like home to the child, so they can feel comfortable and welcomed.

Thaliaonbikefeb2012

While I strive hard to learn about each child's comfort level, I also want to learn about their development and interests to keep them interested and engaged as well as comfortable and curious. I think it also helps the child to boost their confidence of having their needs met when the caregiver understands what those needs are.

I believe in respecting the child from birth as a whole and cuing into their needs right away. This will include using sign language from a very young age, always talking respectful to the child and parents, letting children know what's next and letting children do things for themselves.

Parent communication is essential to building a relationship and to help us better understand your child's needs. I encourage drop-ins, parent participation and ideas you may have. Please feel free to talk to me about any concerns or questions you might have anytime.

We also do a little bit of urban farming. We raise 5 chickens & do a bit of gardening in the Spring!

In-Home Child care just over the river

January 28, 2012

Hello.  I am providing care just across the river in Vancouver.  I run an in-home child care with a very small group of children.

  Kitchenset

“The e nvironment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences.” -Maria Montessori

Children benefit from being able to explore the environment around them inside and outside.  This includes having materials available for them to learn about, touch, explore and for it to be safe to do so.  I believe in making materials for the children to use from ordinary items at home.  This can include anything you might find in the recycle bin: bottle caps, boxes, paper, toilet paper rolls, jars etc.  While outside children should be free to learn about plants/trees, watch animals and insects and run free. This can be done by taking nature walks, exploring the backyard or simply bringing in items from nature to use for projects or simply to observe.  We also do bike riding, digging in the sand box and drawing with chalk.

Frontroomdaycare1There are many reasons why parents might need to find a provider to care for their children.  I provide a safe environment in my home with a loving and nurturing caregiver who is very patient and understanding.  I believe in respecting the child as a whole and this will include how I talk and interact with them.  For example letting children learn to feed themselves, pouring milk or juice, answering questions the child might have or just simply giving the child encouragement when trying to accomplish a goal.

I also offer respite care and was a former respite care worker with the State of Washington for families that have children with special needs.  I have experience working with children with: Autism, Down's Syndrome, ADHD/ADD, blind, deaf, non-walking/cerebral palsy, Sensory Integration, drug addiction and children that need more social interaction in general.  I also have training in several different philosophies including: Montessori, RIE and Reggio.  I try and incorporate the children's art work into our environment along with pictures of the children in play.

I also bring with me:
*Former Preschool Teacher
*Current CPR & First Aid Certification
*Montessori Training

Looking for NE, SE, or NoPo family to nanny share (bilingual nanny)

September 11, 2011

We are a family in inner NE with three school-age children looking to share our incredible nanny, Eva, with another family. Eva has been with our family for 9+ years. She will take care of our three children after school (from 2:30-5:30 p.m.), so we are looking for a family with a baby and/or toddler who needs help for the first half of the day (like 9:30-2:30 or 8:30-2:30, or thereabouts) Monday thru Friday. If you are willing to have her look after our kids as well, you might be able to also have her watch your child after school one or two afternoons/week. [NOTE: I posted this listing before, when I thought Eva didn't want to get to work before 10 a.m. because of I-5 commute. I was mistaken: She's fine getting to work earlier.)

Some details about Eva:

-Originally from Mexico, Eva’s primary language is Spanish. She speaks some English.

-Eva speaks Spanish with our children because we want them to be bilingual. She would speak Spanish with the children of the family who nanny-shares with us, thus it would work best if family had younger children or bilingual children.

-Eva engages children through song, talking, and movement. Eva is always talking to our children and engaging them in various ways. As a result, they speak Spanish incredibly well.

-Eva is very active: She loves taking our children to the neighborhood parks, OMSI, the zoo, etc. (She is on our OMSI and zoo membership.)

-Eva folds all of our laundry, irons clothes, and does light housework (e.g. sweeps kitchen floor, makes children’s beds, etc.). She perceives a need almost before we realize it!

-Eva lives in Vancouver. She wants to work on the eastside, NoPo, or possibly NW—somewhere easy to get to from I-5. She could also work in Vancouver.

-Eva charges $15/hour, which includes taxes to be withheld.

-Eva is incredibly loving, generous, gracious, and thoughtful.

I could go on and on, but I’ll stop now. Eva has entrusted me to find a family to nanny-share so please contact me if you are interested in finding out more.

Fun & Artistic Daytime Nanny Available!

September 10, 2011

 Hi!

My name is Shannon and I have been working as a nanny and sitter in Portland for the past two years. Prior to this I have several years of sitting experience in Florida as well. Most of my experience has been with 1-3 year olds (toddlers are my favorite age group!), but I also have a lot of experience with infants as young as 3 months and children as old as 6. I have taken care of two to four children, as well as one-on-one care, and have worked in a childcare center.

I am currently looking for jobs that will begin soon and will continue to fit into my school schedule when classes start in a month. I will be available Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00AM until around 4:30PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00AM until around 1:00PM, and all day on Fridays.

I am very active and love going on trips to the park, indoor playgrounds, the library, the children's museum, children's music events, music together classes, art classes, and other activities. I have even participated in both baby and toddler swim lessons, children's yoga, and baby sign language classes - all here in Portland. I am a believer in children being actively engaged and stimulated, encouraging learning, discovery, and creativity. I love playing music, doing art projects, reading books, dancing around, and facilitating children's imagination.

I am pet-friendly, eco-friendly, have experience preparing vegan/vegetarian & organic meals, have experience with pumped milk, cloth-diaper experienced, potty-training experienced, little to no television, reading-heavy, active and get outside even on rainy days capable, and much much more!

I have been CPR certified, but do need to renew sometime in the near future. I also have a very reliable car, which I have always used to transport my toddlers, and I am very punctual. $10-$12/hr is generally what I have been paid for caring for one child, and $12-$15/hr caring for two, but I am completely willing to work around your budget. I am also more than willing to do light cooking and cleaning and laundry and have experience with all of these things at several of my previous jobs.

As for some more personal information, I am getting my BFA in Art Practices with focuses in printmaking and photography from PSU this year. I have my own photography business photographing maternity, children, weddings, portraiture, etc. as well. I enjoy music, making it and seeing it, creating art and videos, exploring nature, and being with friends. I moved to Portland two years ago from Florida and I absolutely love it here!

I have a resume and several great references that I would love to email you if you are interested, including the many families I worked with in both Florida and Portland. If you are satisfied with my qualifications I would love to interview as soon as possible, by phone or in person, and see if I would be a good fit for your family, and then have you contact my references.  You can email me at shannon@bearstringhead.com if you would like to set up an interview. Thank you for your time and consideration!

                                Best,
                                Shannon

Nanny/Mother's Helper in Vancouver!!!

June 21, 2011

Hello.  My name is Misty.  I was born and raised in the PNW (living in Vancouver for the past 10-11 years now).  Children have been my passion in life.  I have 3 children of my own (14, 11, 3) whom I raise myself.  I currently work in a licensed childcare center with preschool age children but really miss the more one on one care with children.  In the past I have worked as a nanny, mother's helper, Montessori Toddler Teacher as well as owning and operating an In-Home Licensed Child care here in Vancouver for several years.
I feel I am a outgoing, patient person who likes to spend time with kids-helping them learn, watching them grow and connecting with families.  I treat children with respect and follow their interests when it comes to what they like to do and what the parents want.  I also have worked with children under the age of 5 for most of my life and really enjoy it!!  However I have also worked with children 5-12 as well in a school age program.  I am mostly looking for a family or 2 I could work with long term with the possibility of bringing my youngest child with me if needed.
I can provide references, resume, CPR/First Aid card, food handlers card etc.

I am very open to families that practice attachment parenting, new parents, same-sex couples, single moms/dads, relatives raising kids-I am open to just about anything with it comes to family structure.

USAuPair - An Oregon Au Pair Agency!

August 27, 2010

Have you considered an au pair for your child care needs?   USAuPair is located in Lake Oswego, Oregon.  We place au pairs with families in the Portland metro area.  Au pairs are young adults from foreign countries who arrive on a 12-month J1 au pair visa.  They live with their host families and provide up to to 45 hours of child care weekly (up to 10 hours daily).

The average expense is less than $320 weekly (per family, not per child), including weekly wage for au pair.  Au pairs arrive with medical insurance.  They have background checks, personal interviews with one of our foreign reps, English exam to measure their language level, psychometric exam that evaluates attitudes in caring for children, verified child care references from non-relatives, medical report and more.

Before an au pair arrives to your family, he or she attends a Portland workshop (32-hours) on child/infant safety and development.  At the end of the workshop, host families may pick up their au pairs at a local hotel.

If you are interested, please give our office a call.  You can also visit the au pair gallery on our web site.  It profiles a few of the applicants available for placement.  Local families have used our service for years.

USAuPair, au pairs and a host family were recently profiled in the Portland Business Journal, Hollywood Star News and Oregonian.

Not sure about the program?  Join our Host Family Conference Day in September.  Meet USAuPair staff, host families and their au pairs.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Seeking family daycare for my 3 month old in Vancouver, WA area

July 23, 2010

Can anyone recommend a good, reputable & affordable ($150 or less per week, full-time, Mon-Fri) family day care in the Clark County area? I'm looking for a place near the Clark College/downtown Vancouver area or within a 5 mile radius. I may be returning to work as early as September so I'd like to interview the daycare providers soon.

I'm open to hiring a nanny also but it would have to be around the same rate (e.g., $150 per week). Please post your suggestions as "comments" or email me at elmiquiabas@hotmail.com.

Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

Soon-to-be-employed-Mama

Down to Earth Nanny

July 18, 2010

Hello.  My name is Misty and I am living in Vancouver, WA.  I have worked with children of all ages for the past 14 years.  I have 3 children of my own (13 ½, 10 ½ and almost 3).  In 2006 I graduated with my Montessori Infant & Toddler certificate and worked for about 3 years in a Infant & Toddler Montessori in NE Portland before having my youngest child.  Before that I ran an In-Home Licensed Daycare out of my home.  Currently I am working on my AA through Clark College and work with children before and after school or full time in the summer but I am just not getting the hours I really need.

What I am  looking for is a Nanny position (possibly Nanny Share as well) in Vancouver.  I see a lot of people in Portland who needs this but none in Vancouver.  I think children benefit from more one on one situations and it's hard to find these days.  I would love to find something I could bring my youngest child along with me.

Some of my strengths are being patient with children and reading their cues while offering my love & support to them.  I think children really benefit with being able to freely explore their environment and would love to find somebody who practices Montessori/Reggio or something similar in their home.  I don't believe in letting children sit in swings, bouncers or any other forms of equipment that hinder their movement but would instead let them play outside, crawl or walk around their environment.

If this sounds like something that interests you, please feel free to email me.  I can provide references upon request.

Exuberant, creative, voyaging PDX urban Nanny looking for p/t summer work.

June 25, 2010

My name is Mariia, and I'm an experienced nanny looking for some part time work in the Portland area.
I have 8 years experience working with various age groups, one-on-one, as well as classroom settings.

I have all the necessary certifications for childcare, including infant CPR and first aid training.

I have a station wagon perfect for carting around kids and equipment necessary for summer fun.

I also bike and am familiar with Portland bike ways and Portland Metro, all great means for exploring.

I'm an excellent cook (including vegetarian/vegan), and would be happy to do light house keeping. If you have cats and dogs, I'm pet friendly.

I enjoy the outdoors, creative projects, music, and cooking. I look forward to connecting with the right family, and hope to hear from you!

Help with Vancouver WA Early Interverntion Programs

June 09, 2010

We had a screening appointment for our 2.5 year old son yesterday.  He scores pretty high on everything but speech.  They say he needs to be evaluated.  He has a frenulum that was cut when he was 7 months old, but he still can not stick his tongue out past his lips.  He speaks words but you can not understand them.  Because he screened high on the other sections (fine motor, gross motor, problem solving, personal-social) we are not sure if he will qualify.  He speaks but you can not understand him most of the time.   I was handed 3 brochures for the current service providers.

We have:
Pride for Kids Family Therapy Center (this seems more family based)
Innovative Services NW Pediatric Therapy Services (more like a Dr Office)
The Educational Service District 112 Early Intervention Program (Teachers who visit the home) We are in full time home based Daycare so I do not really want to have someone put the burden on our provider so I feel that this one is out)
Has anyone had any experience with the Clark county service providers? I am going to call and try to drop but but ANY info, questions to ask ect is greatly appreciated!  We cant move forward till I pick one and I want to get the best fit for us.
I can be contacted at timandceri at yahoo dot com  THANKS!!!!

Fun, Caring, AWESOME Nanny available!!

May 25, 2010

Fun and Caring Nanny available!!!!

I am 25 years old and have been a full-time nanny for the last 5 years, and have been babysitting for more than 10 years. I have experience with children ages 4 mo. to 9 years old. I also have experience volunteering in a daycare for homeless families, tutoring pre-schoolers with Junior Kumon, and working with at-risk teenagers in Oregon Youth Conservation Core. I have been a volunteer at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Pediatric Acute Care and the Hematology-Oncology Clinic for the past year.

I have a tight-knit network of moms and nannies that I regularly arrange play dates with, and I am very familiar with library story times, baby gyms, indoor gyms, kid-friendly cafes, etc. I love outings to OMSI, Children's Museum, Oregon Zoo, Children's Healing Art Project as well as kid-friendly hikes at Laurelhurst Park and Forest Park. Outings have also included day-trips to State Parks, as well as tide-pool exploration at the beach! I have a strong background in Drawing and Photography and I love doing LOTS of art projects...

My style is adaptive towards each child, because each child has his/her own special interests, personality and talents. I like to encourage spending as much time outdoors as possible, hone creative abilities as well as kids' imaginations, and try to laugh as much as humanly possible :)

My educational experience includes courses in Family Studies, Child Psychology, Human Development and Teaching in International Schools. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Liberal Studies and a minor in Black Studies. I am currently finishing up a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) program, and am applying for nursing programs.

I have an Oregon driver's license and my own vehicle. My availability is Monday, Wednesday and Friday (with occasional weekend babysitting) starting July 1st. Because of my qualifications, experience and ability with children, my hourly wage is not negotiable below $13/hr. If you are interested, please contact me for full resume/references... Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!!!

Nanny

Part-time nanny needed

December 18, 2009

I am looking for a part-time nanny for my 21-mo-old daughter.  Ideally, I would be looking for 9am-1-pm in my home Mon-Tues-Thur-Fri, but I could be flexible as to which days or if you could only do 3 days/week.  I would also welcome a nanny share with another child similar in age or slightly older.

I am currently just across the Columbia, between I-205 and I-5, and will be moving to Portland Heights the beginning of February.  I am thinking someone in NE or SE would work well, or I would also consider hiring someone now until the move, if only our current location works.

Please let me know by email if you are interested or have a referral.

Thanks,

Lorianne Hanson

Recommendations for Childcare in Vancouver

December 10, 2008

My partner and I live in Vancouver and are likely to be needing childcare for our 2 kids, 1 1/2 year old and 4 1/2 year old.  We only will need 2 days a week, Thursday and Friday.  My son will start kindergarten in the fall so we will need somebody who can drop him off.  Anybody have any recommendations for Vancouver?

Host an Au Pair ~ Affordable & Flexible Childcare

November 19, 2008

Cultural Care Au Pair knows that one of the biggest challenges parents face is finding a good childcare fit for their family. Hosting an au pair gives parents more one-on-one quality time, their children and the peace of mind that comes with a trusted, childcare provider. For more information about hosting an au pair, visit www.culturalcare.com or call 800-333-6056 or contact Anna Lee-Thompson, Local Childcare Coordinator at (971) 235-4181 or via e-mail Anna.LeeThompson@lcc.culturalcare.com.

Now with winter savings: save up to $850!

Families who apply between November 1 and December 1, 2008 are entitled to a $350 program fee discount AND the opportunity to lock into 2008 prices (a savings of up to $500). Vancouver (PDX?) Childcare exchange?

February 12, 2008

Hi! I am a 25 year old mama to very talkative, outgoing 19 mo. old. We are moving into Vancouver (from downtown PDX) in a few weeks and, at the same time, I am starting to need more time away; looking for more work, possibly starting school this spring, errands, etc...

I'd love to connect with a family who has a similar situation to ours which is: clean, kid-comfortable house, healthy diet/active lifestyle, loooooves to read... and read, and read, and read :-), and is looking for a light childcare swap. I am UBER flexible about days, times, hours, etc. I would just like to know that I had a chunk of time once, MAYBE twice per week where I could start scheduling interviews, boring office errands, yoga classes, etc.

On the other end of the spectrum, I am in a mostly stay-at-home situation. Aurelia (my daughter) is an only child and is really starting to show signs of sociability. I'd love to have an occassional playmate around for her. So, if YOU would like a chunk of time once, MAYBE twice per week where YOU can run errands and whatnot, even if an exchange doesn't work out for you, I'd looove to host your young child at our house. I have seven years of varied childcare experience. I've worked in both public and private day cares, nannied, coached, tutored.

We are just beginning the process of moving right now but once we're settled we'd love to have you over for coffee or tea so you have ample opportunity to look around our house and get a feeling for what kind of environment it is. If you're in the market for a childcare swap, great. If you are looking for childcare, great. We can talk about some extremely reasonable rates. This wouldn't be a "nanny" situation so I wouldn't be thinking about "nanny" rates.

Thanks for your time- this turned out a little longer than I thought it would be. :-) But, this is our situation. If it works out for you, we'd love to hear from you!
