Lil' Green Beans Early Learning Community

February 19, 2012

Greenhandsthe-environment

"You think you are a small star, when in fact you contain the entire universe..."

The first three years of your child's life are some of the most important - and the quality of care received during this crucial time of development prove to have a lasting effect.   We understand this and strive to create a loving, play-filled environment which nourishes the uniqueness of your child body, mind, heart and soul.

We also know what a difficult decision it is to find the right kind of care for your little ones.  If you are working parents with a need for full time care, we are there for you.  If you are a stay at home mom who simply needs a day or two a week reprieve, we are there for you.  Whatever your circumstance, our family is here for you!

We might be a good match for you:

  • If you have children ages 0-3 (our lil' green beans) or 3-5 (our growing green beans).
  • If you value living a green and sustainable lifestyle.
  • If diversity and honoring peoples of all races and colors is important to you.
  • If you want your child eating mostly homemade, organic and Gluten Free meals.
  • If you believe in the magic of play, make believe, getting dirty, and celebrating life and learning through music, art, science and movement.

We are currently located in the Mt. Park area of Lake Oswego with a vision of growing into a larger home, with an organic garden, outside play structure, and chickens.  We want to bring together a group of people who are passionate about making a positive difference in their community and lives of their children!  Our doors open mid March and we are currently taking applications for all ages.

If you want to be a part of our vision, please visit our FB page at  http://www.facebook.com/LilGreenBeansDaycare.  Our website www.lilgreenbeansdaycare.com will also be available very soon.

You can also call Jenn, the Director, at 650-430-4115, or email her at Jenntasnim@gmail.com if you have any questions.

I look forward to hearing from you, and wish you the best of luck in your childcare search!

Educational, Interactive Childcare!

December 01, 2011

Experienced childcare provider looking for a position. Would prefer full-time but willing to consider part-time positions or on-call as well. I have multiple years of experience (total of 10 years childcare experience) working with children ages 0-8. Great families for you to contact that can attest to my ability to be on-time and engaging with children of any age.

I am familiar with RIE, Reggio, well-versed in Montessori learning style as well as a bit of knowledge in attachment parenting. Comfortable with cloth diapers (assisting with diaper laundry and children's laundry as well) and feeding expressed milk as well.

I'm cpr/first aid certified, have taken the RRCAN class, am in the process of completing my food handlers certification, and am enrolled in Oregon Criminal History Registry # (for working in a childcare center). Previously background checked through DHS for 3 years, open to having background check run as well as having two through reputable childcare sites (sittercity.com and care.com). Non-smoker, valid license/insurance and reliable vehicle for transportation (5 seat car, 2 car seats or boosters and room for one older child. I may possibly be able to squeeze 2 car seats and 1 booster in back, depending on width!)

Engaging and active; I do multiple activities with children from sensory play (shaving cream, paint, play dough, etc.) to arts and crafts with older children. Familiar with assisting in school-aged learning, assisting with writing/reading, spelling, abc's, 123's, colors, shapes, etc. Primary focus working with children ages 0-6.

I can and will take your children on outings if you would like, am able to assist with errand running/shopping if necessary as well as light household chores (dishes unloaded or loaded, light sweeping, child laundry/room cleanup, etc.). I love going to the park even if it's wet, and love to puddle jump! For outings I do ask you provide the payment for admission fees, etc.

Available Mon-Fri any time. I do offer weekend sitting but usually reserve it for date-night occasional sitting for families.

If you're interested, please feel free to email me with all pertinent information such as: your care needs (frequency, total hours, daily schedule if varied), a bit about your family/children (names/ages/a bit about them) and what you are expecting to pay.

My hourly rate for locations within 15 miles of my home is $11.50 per hour, for 2 children. Locations further from my home or with additional children are subject to increased fees, etc. I base my price on your needs, family size, as well as location and am slightly flexible with families that can provide me with stability as I can for them. :)

For inquiry/interest please email educatoralicia@gmail.com or call (971)-217-8414. If I do not answer please leave a message; I have a very active 6 year-old with high-functioning Autism and he can be quite demanding of my time. :)

Thanks!

Infant/Toddler nanny seeking new family in inner pdx

November 05, 2011

Hello,

My name is Wendy and I have been working in the child care industry for the past 3.5 years, however, I have over 10 years experience caring for children, including raising a step son.  I have passed a National background check and Oregon's background check for child care workers. I am First Aid/CPR Certified and have obtained 400+ hours in Early Childhood Education. There for I am confident that I have the experience and the qualifications that you are seeking in a caregiver.

Most of my experience is with wobblers and toddlers (1-3 year olds) as this is my favorite age group.  I do however; have experience with children of all ages. I have cared for children on a one-on-one basis and in a group setting.   I am a mature individual seeking a long term part or fulltime position.

I am a very fun loving and active nanny.  I believe that children, especially babies, are learning and absorbing things all the time.  I enjoy fostering this learning and natural curiosity by stimulating them with fun and educational activities.   I also enjoy taking them on walks, setting up play dates, taking them to any classes that you might have them signed up in, and other age appropriate outings.

I am pet friend, have experience with expressed milk and cloth diapers.   When the time comes I also have experience with potty-training.   I believe in little to no television, I make sure that all schedules are followed, I encourage verbal skills by talking and reading to the children, and I try to get out of the house once a day.

I generally charge $10-$12/hr for one, $12-$14/hr for 2, and $13-$15 for 3.   My rate includes light housekeeping, generally centered on the children.

I have a resume, references, and many more details to give.  Please contact me at pwhobear@gmail.com, atyour earliest convenience.

Thank you,

Wendy

We have a great nanny, join she and our baby 1 or 2 days to save on day care costs.

September 18, 2011

Our inquisitive and active 7 month old is cared for by our incredibly responsible nanny 2 days a week. Our bi-lingual nanny enjoys being out with our girl, whether it is going to the park, taking walks, or going to the local museums. She also enjoys playing with her in doors and reading books. Her background includes taking care of twins from the age of 3 months so she is well equipped to handle two babies who are mobile.

We are located in the Ceder Hills area and are looking to share on Wednesdays and/or Fridays. We prefer a baby less than a year to play with our girl. Even if you are interested in one day for several hours please contact us.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Creative and loving childcare!

August 23, 2011

Hello!

I am 25 year old college graduate and freelance photographer/musican/artist/jewelry/ maker who loves children! Most of my childcare experience comes from working for friends and family and in my hometown Mankato, Minnesota and photographing children of all ages at a local Portrait studio in Portland.  My area of work allows me to have a very open schedule with a few photo gigs on the weekends. I am very flexable and am open to working anywhere from five to forty hours per week! I love to teach children about expression through art, reading, free play, music, dance, and even goofing-off! I am reliable, always on time, and enjoy cleaning, cooking, and enjoy engaging with children. I've held various positions that relate to childcare in one way or another, including; eco friendly house cleaning, planning and leading activities at an assisted living home, as a sales associate at a toy store, and cooking in a non-profit kitchen. My rate is $10/hr with $2 for each additional child,  and references are available upon request. I currently live in NE Portland and prefer to work in Portland. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, I am looking forward to hearing from you and your family!

Sincerely,

Patti Miller

'We toured a total of six schools before we found the right one for our daughter. We even enrolled her in another one prior to Montessori Children's House only to pull her out because we were disappointed in our experience there. I wish that we had discovered this school sooner! It would have saved us a lot of stress.'

'The space itself is gorgeous, all new, beautiful learning areas, just what you would imagine a top notch Montessori school to look like...The location on South Waterfront is very easy to get to and from, parking is right in front of the main door and the teachers will even greet the kids at your car. We highly recommend Montessori Children’s House!'

Daycare/Infant Care for Teachers

April 04, 2011

We are expecting our first this summer and are expecting to need care starting in January (when the baby will be about 7 months old).  I'm wondering if there are other teacher mamas out there who have figured out how to navigate daycare and a teacher's schedule.  I'm overwhelmed by the thought of having to pay for summer care when I don't need or want it.   Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Montessori Children's House -- Accepting Applications

Header

Montessori Children's House is accepting applications for current openings, as well as for Fall 2011.  Call us today to schedule an observation and meet the staff.

IMG_5948

We currently have openings for Toddlers (15 months - 36 months) and Primary children (3-6).

Montessori Children's House offers both  Toddler and Primary Montessori programs.  Located in Portland's newest neighborhood, the South Waterfront, we are still relatively 'undiscovered.'

We have mixed-age groups -- two Toddler Classes of up to eight children with two teachers, and our Primary classes with up to 22 children ranging from three years (or a bit younger) up through kindergarten age. In 2010-2011 we have one primary class and two toddler communities. As a new program, we are enrolling children now and do not yet have a “waiting list.” Remaining spaces are limited, however, especially in the toddler groups.

We also offer a Parent/Infant class for children under 15 months and not walking.

Share our nanny with us (NW Portland/Cedar Mill)

October 20, 2010

Our two kids are in school full time (800-300) so we'd like to find another family to share our nanny with. She has worked full time with us for almost 4 years and is great with kids. She is in her 30's, has been a professional nanny for many years and has been with each of her families for more than a few years.

The ideal situation would be for a family who is looking for care between the hours of 830 and 230pm, or anytime before 300pm, Mon- Fri. She prefers staying the NW Portland/Cedar Mill/Bethany area.

If you are interested or want to learn more, please contact us via email at usplus2girls@gmail.com.

Child Transportation Service

September 23, 2010

We don't need a nanny, but we do need someone who can pick up our child at school and deliver her to dance classes twice a week.  (Lake Oswego / Tigard area)  What have other parents done who work till 5 PM, but want to support their kids' (off-site) after school activities?  Are their child transporation companies?

USAuPair - An Oregon Au Pair Agency!

August 27, 2010

Have you considered an au pair for your child care needs?   USAuPair is located in Lake Oswego, Oregon.  We place au pairs with families in the Portland metro area.  Au pairs are young adults from foreign countries who arrive on a 12-month J1 au pair visa.  They live with their host families and provide up to to 45 hours of child care weekly (up to 10 hours daily).

The average expense is less than $320 weekly (per family, not per child), including weekly wage for au pair.  Au pairs arrive with medical insurance.  They have background checks, personal interviews with one of our foreign reps, English exam to measure their language level, psychometric exam that evaluates attitudes in caring for children, verified child care references from non-relatives, medical report and more.

Before an au pair arrives to your family, he or she attends a Portland workshop (32-hours) on child/infant safety and development.  At the end of the workshop, host families may pick up their au pairs at a local hotel.

If you are interested, please give our office a call.  You can also visit the au pair gallery on our web site.  It profiles a few of the applicants available for placement.  Local families have used our service for years.

USAuPair, au pairs and a host family were recently profiled in the Portland Business Journal, Hollywood Star News and Oregonian.

Not sure about the program?  Join our Host Family Conference Day in September.  Meet USAuPair staff, host families and their au pairs.  We look forward to hearing from you!

drop-in, summer, and school year care in child-centered community!

June 08, 2010

Do you need to work, shop, or just have some time to yourself? Are you worried that you will not be able to find (or afford) the kind of experienced, loving, and compassionate care that your child deserves? Are you tired of having to choose between expensive nannies or big impersonal centers?

Well, look no further! I am a mother of 3 with over 15 years of childcare experience outside of the home, as well CPR/ First Aid training, familiarity with naturopathic medicine, and both early childhood and elementary education training. I currently have spaces for both regular and drop-in care, as well as upcoming "date night" parties. My home feels like just that: a home. Your child will be welcomed into our family, where they will be nurtured and encouraged to explore, learn, and play at their own pace. We do cooking projects, art, music, and lots of outdoor activity, as well as reading, building with blocks and legos, and other imaginative play. Though not a certified "center", I do have a philosophy that combines the beliefs of Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia, with plenty of room for both loosely-structured learning and free exploration of art, music, science, language and social studies. Our family operates on the principles of unconditional parenting (U/P), attachment parenting, and NVC (non-violent communication). I will happily support cloth diapering, breastfeeding, babywearing, and can accomodate allergies and other family-specific practices.

I provide loosely-structured care as well as pre-school and kindergarten readiness, homeschool support, and other extracurricular and tutoring opportunities for infants through junior high.

For the summer, I have both full-time, and part-time available, as well as dropins. For fall there aare spaces available, schedule pending. My rate for children 3-12 is $25 for 1/2 day, $40 for full day. under 3 (not potty-trained) are $30 for 1/2 day and $50 for full day. Hourly rates, overnights, partial scholarships, and sibling discounts are possible as well. My goal is to provide the affordable, high-quality care I could not find for my own kids when I was deciding whether to return to a career outside the home. So, if you need help affording this, PLEASE ASK!!! :)

We are located in the Montavilla/ North Tabor neighborhood, easily accessible by Max, bus, and freeway from Vancouver, Outer SE and NE Portland, Hollywood, Belmont, Hawthorne, Alameda, and many other neighborhoods.

Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to welcoming your family into ours.  molliv@gmail.com or 503-839-9123

A testimonial about our beloved childcare setting in SW

November 02, 2009

I continue to rank the Childcare Search as among the more heart-wrenching tasks of parental life. Having been through a couple tough transitions with my two kids in the past, I wanted to offer other parents a quick nod to a setting we feel blessed to have found. It's a special place that has grown dear to our hearts. We had a nanny for several years, whom we cherished. When her life was transitioning, we questioned whether we could find an intimate, bonding experience in more of a "center" setting with more kids to play with. TWG offered the best of both worlds. A staff that is loving and stable enough to create long-term bonds, a more socially enriching experience, and a program that is consciously developed by two sisters with vast experience in the care of little people.

Once I was comfortable with the people providing the care, I was able to enjoy the other true gift of this center - the OUTSIDE. These kids spend a TON of time outside all year round. Huge yard with an embarassment of riches for little explorers. It feels like they are plopped into a camp setting - there are small wooded areas (my son learned how to climb trees here), summer flower and vegetable gardening, vast expanses of grass and barkdust areas, tons of tricylces and wagons for riding in, bunnies to feed and the standard play structures also. These kids don't lack for stimulation. And through the rainy Oregon days, each child has boots and these fabulous "rain pants" to keep them out and well-exercised year round.

There is great emphasis on art, play, songs, books. The seasonal themes and work they bring home are endless. There is a holiday party in December, where the children - even the tiniest toddlers (!) - perform songs and skits. And there are several field trips eaych ear (apple farm, pumpkin patch, library shows, leaf-gathering, etc).

My son was at this center from age three till Kindergarten, and still BEGS to go back for school closure days. My daughter, who is now three, started when she was one. I can't imagine her soul being so well-nourished anywhere else. I was referred to the program through my work's referral center. I was impressed at the time that the director of the referral service, who hears a lot of feedback about all the options, had her own children there at the time and raved about it.

I know they moved some kids into Kindergarten this fall and have a few openings, (although I must admit to not knowing which age groups they have room for - they strive for a perfect balance of ages). Anyway - I just thought I'd toss out my recommendation! If you want to explore further, contact Cheri at (503) 579-6889. Or I'm happy to chat personally also: (503) 246-6210.

Seeking Childcare for infant, Beaverton, October 2009

April 02, 2009

I am due to have a baby at the end of June. I will be taking 4 months of leave and returning to work full-time in mid to late October 2009. I want to make sure I have child care set up LONG before that time because it is so diffcult to find good care for an infant. I don't like daycare centers for infants, but I am also not particularly comfortable with an in-home provider without reliable and strong references. Any suggestions of in-home providers in the Beaverton area? Hillsboro is an option too - we're right on the line of the two cities. I'm also open to a SAHM with a child 2 or younger who is interested in having a playmate for her child while also making some additional income for her family. Things that are important to me: high quality care, low ratio, natural/organic food (once eating solids), loving, learning environment, and no to minimal TV. Any and all suggestions welcome!! I need help!! Thanks!

Seeking PT afternoon care for 5yo, Hillsboro

September 10, 2008

Hey Mamas (and cool dadz),

We're out by the Hillsboro Airport, and we're looking for afternoon (lunch to 6ish?) in-home care for our 5 year old son. We just moved here, so we don't know many folks to ask for recommendations. He'll be going to a preK program (just down the road) in the mornings, so we're not looking for structure/intense academics - we want a place where he can run around outside, play with a few other kids and generally relax. Definitely NOT looking for "mother goose time" or religious curricula! And we lean toward the "typical PDX parenting" style of valuing diversity, gentle discipline/attachment parenting, healthy food choices, etc (though he IS media-savvy) If you know of anyone, who knows anyone...please email me at nif dot lindsay at gmail dot com! We want him to be happy, that's our most important factor, so we'll be doing a lot of interviewing and need to get started. Thanks a ton!

Definitely NOT looking for "mother goose time" or religous curricula! And we lean toward the "typical PDX parenting" styles of valuing diversity, gentle discipline/attachment parenting, etc (tho he IS media-exposed) If you know of anyone, who knows anyone...please email me at nif dot lindsay at gmail dot com! We want him to be happy, that's our most important factor, so we'll be doing a lot of interviewing and need to get started. Thanks a ton!
