Now Accepting applications for 2017-2018 waitlist (4 guaranteed spaces open, availability now), for ages 2.5 years -6 years. Children must be in pull-ups for September 1 2017.

We love our work with children and view every day as an opportunity to see the best that humanity IMG_5677
has to offer. We are delighted when we glimpse the compassion of a child rubbing another's back during story-time or asking another if she needs a hug, and we are joyed at the independence of a three year old setting up a tea party and inviting his friends. Each day is something new and amazing at Olive Branch School, a Montessori Primary School environment serving children ages 2.5-6 years old and their families.

Our school offers a range of experiences that encourage resourcefulness (critical thinking), support the building of self-control, discipline and decision making skills (cognitive and executive functioning) and nurture the emotional and spiritual growth of each child through positive social interactions. Children attending Olive Branch School are a part of a supportive, shared community experience 5 days a week. Our class size is small and responsive with a 7:1 ratio, 14 child maximum. A Montessori education truly gives a child the keys to the world and sets them on the road to loving learning.

Certified In-Home CF502413.

IMG_5021To facilitate learning and consistency for children and staff, all children attend Monday-Friday. Families may choose from 1/2 day 8:30am-12:30pm ($450 monthly), or full day 8:30am-3:30pm ($750) attendance. Our program is year round and we offer optional weekly themed Summer Programming.

Creative, caring nanny looking for Full/Part time Position!

January 02, 2017

Hello and Happy New Year!

My name is Alaina, I am a 29 year old Portland native looking for my next family to Nanny for! My ideal position would be three 10-12 hour days, doesn't matter what days of the week, if the days switch off each week, or if they are consecutive week days off together. I am just hoping to find something around 30-35 hours per week, also open to a nanny share situation. I am a new mom to a 4 month old boy, named Leo. I absolutely love being a mom, he's such a sweet little guy and has been nothing but a joy in our life. My mother has graciously offered to watch Leo 2 days a week, but I would love to be able to bring him one day a week to work. This can be discussed in greater detail of course. I know this may not sound ideal to some families, but I can assure you it would have no negative effect on me being a nanny to your family. I would give equal attention to each child, and I love the thought of my son growing up with other children, and forming lasting friendships. I started my last nanny job in January 2016, which I was with full time until September when I went on maternity leave. The plan was to return to work at the start of January 2017 and bring Leo with me, but things changed with the families work schedule and they can no longer guarantee a set amount of hours anymore, since the mom will be home more often, so here I am!
I live in SW Portland in the Raleigh Hills area, so keeping it within a 20-30 min drive at most would be helpful (especially with this growing Portland traffic!)
A little about me, my work history, and teaching style.

I have grown up in the Portland metro area my whole life, I love Oregon and all if has to offer. Like most Oregonians, I love the lifestyle we are able to have by living here, beautiful day hikes, weekend trips to the Oregon Coast, camping, and trying a new awesome restaurant each weekend. Eating locally and as healthy as possible is very important for me. Which is why staying active, and eating fresh is definitely incorporated as much as possible when I am watching children. I like to have the kids help me cook, get them involved and show them what its like to eat from the garden, daily walks, and exploring all nature has to offer. Rain or shine, I need to go outside everyday! I very much believe a child's imagination is the most important thing to exercise and discover, and no better place to do that then the great outdoors. I grew up in a large family, with my parents, two older sisters, and a younger brother. I now have 4 nieces, and the family keeps growing. I feel very lucky to have them all live close by so Leo can grow up surrounded by his grandparents and cousins.

I have been working with children for the past ten years, from being a full time nanny, preschool teacher, and teacher assistant in the Beaverton School District. Even though all my jobs have been working with children, each job has proved different from the last. I have learned so much in each position, with the different types of teaching styles, parenting styles, ages, sibling behavior, and children with special needs, my passion for being a teacher/caregiver only grows stronger.

Being a Nanny has always been my favorite job of them all. The bond and relationships you form are extremely rewarding and irreplaceable. I have nannied children ranging from 4MO-14years old. As a parent I can only imagine how hard it is to leave your children everyday for work, that’s why as a nanny I make sure the children know they are loved and cared for everyday, I am there for any questions and concerns they have, and am there to teach them and help them grow. I love to stay positive and active. From working in school environments in the past I have taken to implementing some things into my nanny life. Making sure each day has time for reading, crafts, down time, dance/play, and outdoor learning/activities. I know every family is different, some are more structured and scheduled, others may not follow a schedule, with that said I am open to whatever makes the family feel most at ease and comfortable.

As I search for the next family to work with, I am hoping to find something long-term, at least a year+ commitment would be ideal. I want to treat my next job as much as a career as possible, 1 week paid vacation/holiday pay, and a guaranteed amount of hours each pay period. I have a weekly sheet I fill out for the families, which includes activities done throughout the day, food intake, potty/nap schedule, miles driven, expenses used, and hours for the day. It really helps the parents and I keep track in an organized way and it’s seemed to work out really well.

I can imagine trying to find the right Nanny for your family to be a very hard process. I don't blame the family for wanting to maybe have a lengthy hiring process, or wanting to do a trial run to see if you are a right fit before hiring, and to me that makes so much sense. You can't be too sure when you know this person is going to be watching your children. So with that said, I am available for contact through e-mail or phone. If you're interested I can send my resume, which gives in greater detail my childcare experience, I also have great references that are more then willing to chat with you, and we can chat on the phone before meeting to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

I have a 2002 Subaru Outback, which is a very safe and reliable car. I have had my license since I was 16, with an amazing driving record. I recently renewed my First Aid/CPR training and am enrolled in the Criminal Background Check. I am comfortable with pets, and don't mind walking the dog. I am comfortable with meal prep, light housekeeping, and running errands. I don't smoke.

In my last few positions I was getting paid $16 hourly for two children. I am willing to go down to $15 for one child. If its a Nanny share situation I would charge $9 an hour per family.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am a very caring, reliable, patient, and open minded person, I look at being a Nanny as a career, and not just a job to have until I find something better. I am very excited to find the next family to work with. Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you!

Creative and loving childcare!

August 23, 2011

Hello!

I am 25 year old college graduate and freelance photographer/musican/artist/jewelry/ maker who loves children! Most of my childcare experience comes from working for friends and family and in my hometown Mankato, Minnesota and photographing children of all ages at a local Portrait studio in Portland.  My area of work allows me to have a very open schedule with a few photo gigs on the weekends. I am very flexable and am open to working anywhere from five to forty hours per week! I love to teach children about expression through art, reading, free play, music, dance, and even goofing-off! I am reliable, always on time, and enjoy cleaning, cooking, and enjoy engaging with children. I've held various positions that relate to childcare in one way or another, including; eco friendly house cleaning, planning and leading activities at an assisted living home, as a sales associate at a toy store, and cooking in a non-profit kitchen. My rate is $10/hr with $2 for each additional child,  and references are available upon request. I currently live in NE Portland and prefer to work in Portland. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, I am looking forward to hearing from you and your family!

Sincerely,

Patti Miller

Nanny Would Love to Work for Your Family This Summer

May 18, 2011

Dear Urban Mamas and Papas,

My name is Hannah Rapp and I am looking to be a part-time nanny (3 days a week, although scheduling can be adjusted) this summer. I just returned home to NE Portland after finishing my second year of college in Southern California where I study Anthropology and Latin American Studies. I love to be outdoors, and would plan on taking your children to parks, bike rides (depending on age), playing in the backyard, etc. But since I know Portland’s weather can be a little wacky sometimes, with rain in July! I also have many indoor activities planned, such as painting, making music, reading, and other games that will challenge your children's imagination. I want to make this summer, with your children, one that will expand their knowledge and provide them with more tools for the future.

I have been in childcare since I was 14 watching children ranging from infant age to as old as 12 and have multiple references that I can connect you with. I am Red Cross certified and have taken care of kids with severe medical allergies. I also have experience tutoring children from 1st to 8th grade in math and writing.

I am a very lighthearted and an outgoing person who loves children and has spent my entire life around them. I am highly responsible and reliable and caring. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you and your family this summer.

My email is Hannah.Rapp@scrippscollege.edu if you would like a copy of my resume and the contact information for my references. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Hannah Rapp

Seeking fantastic care for nine month old

March 23, 2011

Hi Mamas ... I'm looking for recommendations for full-time care (we're open to it being a daycare, Montessori or home environment) for my nine-month-old son. Inexpensive nanny in SE

January 12, 2011

Hello everyone! My names Katie, and I am a stay at home mom to my 18 month old daughter, and I nanny to another 18 month old out of my own home Mon-Fri. I am looking for one or two more children to come play with us, and hang out during the day.

Before having my daughter, I was employed at Children’s Creative Learning Center (CCLC). I was a toddler teacher, as well as working with infants, and pre-school kids. I am CPR certified. I have been a toddler teacher at two other pre-schools, and I have also been employed as a nanny.

I have everything a toddler would need here at my home. During the day, we read lots of books, dance and listen to music, play pretend, art, and typical free play on the giant climbing structure in the middle of the living room!

This is not an in-home daycare. This is a nanny situation.
If this sounds like something your interested in, please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email with any unanswered questions you might have. Thanks!

Kung Fu Babies

January 11, 2011

A new play group for infants (and their caretakers) age 0-1 is to meet in Hillsdale at The Westside Academy of Kung Fu starting in February.  An elementary teacher and Martial Artist with a young daughter of my own; I look forward to using our open studio space to lead active play sessions for both adult and child, where families will be required to pre-register in order to honor limited enrollment with each meeting.  Participants may make a small donation for each session they attend in order to help cover costs the costs of infant mats, gate enclosure, and eco-friendly cleaning supplies.  Please e-mail info@WestsideAKF to be placed on our interest and contact list.

Overlook Collaborative Preschool - Enrolling for Fall 2011/2012

January 05, 2011

PC140592_Medium We are currently accepting applications for families who would like to join our school, there are immediate spaces as well as a few beginning in September.

Our school is a Reggio Emilia inspired, vegan/vegetarian and eco-friendly school located in the Overlook neighborhood of North Portland.

The lead teacher and owner, Erin Sekulic, has taught preschool for the past 8 years. The most recent 5 years she has been teaching at a Reggio Emilia inspired preschool.

Overlook Collaborative Preschool is located on a quiet street with wonderful neighbors. There is so much within walking distance. Having the children visible in the community is a key desire of our school, they are citizens of our community and have a lot to offer. Our school will be growing to have up to twelve children daily with two teachers.

Preschool provides the fundamentals for a desire to learn throughout the rest of life. With the Reggio philosophy we invite the children, teachers and parents to become co-learners and co-researchers investigating questions together. Research is supported by time for free play and exploration of the classroom, group meetings and class projects.

Some of our favorite activities include music, telling and reading stories, clay, dramatic play, building, painting, planting and gardening. Through play we learn about pre-reading, beginning math concepts and basic science too.

We offer half-day classes Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 12:30pm.

Overlook Collaborative Preschool accepts enrollment applications year round for children between the ages of 3 to 5 years. We would love to offer you and your family a personal tour of our program, please contact us to set up a date and time: 503.477.4455

Toddler, preschool, homeschool, before/ aftercare and date night space!

August 23, 2010

Urban Roots Playschool is a new in-home, child-centered playschool in the Montavilla neighborhood, easily accessible via Trimet and freeway from both NE and SE Portland, as well as Vancouver and the West Side. We offer a variety of services for children ages 1-12, and their families, focused on the child as an individual. Our loosely structured, rhythm-based flexible curriculum focuses on growing and cooking food, creating art, active play and becoming responsible citizens of our children's "tribe". Though we are most influenced by Waldorf and Montessori philosophies, our community definitely has the personality of both the teachers and the "students".

Our "playschool" has 2 age groups: ages 1-4 (preschool), and 5-10 (homeschool). Each group is held Monday-Thursday 9-2, or 12-5 (overlap for lunch and freeplay). Early and late starts are both available. Both groups will engage in individual and group projects that "teach" math, science, literacy, art, music, language, and physical education, with long, gentle transitions and overlap between activities, creating a relaxing and fun atmosphere free of pressure to "perform". Meals and snacks are generally vegetarian, organic and gluten-free, and are usually made onsite (often by the children).

Friday is "playcare" day. There will be no "curriculum" but the general rhythm will be the same.

Before and afterschool care, transport from local schools, and weekend care offered as available.

"Playnights" are offered on Friday evenings, and consist of dinner, a "dance party", outdoor and indoor activities.

We are flexible on start and end times, as long as the children arrive during a "transition" time, so that no one is arriving or leaving without finishing a project, enjoying the fruits of their labor, or starting behind the other children. Make no mistake, this is our home, NOT a large center. However, we have the same (if not more) experience, expertise, love and commitment of a "traditional" school.

Our rates are as follows. We DO offer partial scholarships, sibling discounts, full-time discounts when possible, and also are willing to accept DHS or other supplemental pay.

1/2 day "school" program : $25 per day
full day 8-6 : $45 per day
hourly rates beginning at $6
date night 5-10:30 $25 per child (Add $15 for overnight up till 10am).

Circle of Life School~Now accepting ages 3+

July 25, 2010

Circle of Life, A Self-Directed Learning Preschool Community, Inspired by Waldorf !

Picture 671

Our in-home school creates a warm, welcoming environment in hopes to teach children early on that learning happens EVERYWHERE, not just in a 'classroom'. The adults are the students just as much as the children are! We encourage the staff to be open to changes within their being, to learn daily and to be themselves-we do this because we know children learn from watching.

**One of our goals is to reclaim the word ‘school’, for as we see it, life experiences is the meaning of SCHOOL. Learning = School, and learning is not just at a desk, with a math sheet in front of you 8-4pm Monday-Friday. Learning is playing, talking, problem solving, walking, breathing, LIVING!

Learning is all the time and when one is comfortable, one can learn. That is one of the main reasons I adore teaching/learning in a home. It is grounding, familiar and comfortable.

*Our children learn from self-directed play and exploration of the Earth around us and of materials. We expose them to different experiences and challenges, example: we have a painted egg carton-what could we make out of this? (it was great, the carton turned into a swing and we made a leaf and flower bed for our button bugs, this project was directed be a 4 yr old!)

*There is a 1:3 teacher ratio and all of the staff are compassionate women with a strong sense of belonging within our community and with this as our foundation we are able to promote growth daily from everyone involved in our program.

*We offer full-time and part-time rates
*Open from 6am to 6pm
*Accept DHS
*Cook ORGANIC meals and snacks and are able to cater to ALL FOOD ALLERGIES

Please email  at circleoflifeschool@ymail.com or call us at 503. 209.2137 and meet all of us and see if we are a right fit for you and your family!

Peace and Joy in the process!

drop-in, summer, and school year care in child-centered community!

June 08, 2010

Do you need to work, shop, or just have some time to yourself? Are you worried that you will not be able to find (or afford) the kind of experienced, loving, and compassionate care that your child deserves? Are you tired of having to choose between expensive nannies or big impersonal centers?

Well, look no further! I am a mother of 3 with over 15 years of childcare experience outside of the home, as well CPR/ First Aid training, familiarity with naturopathic medicine, and both early childhood and elementary education training. I currently have spaces for both regular and drop-in care, as well as upcoming "date night" parties. My home feels like just that: a home. Your child will be welcomed into our family, where they will be nurtured and encouraged to explore, learn, and play at their own pace. We do cooking projects, art, music, and lots of outdoor activity, as well as reading, building with blocks and legos, and other imaginative play. Though not a certified "center", I do have a philosophy that combines the beliefs of Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia, with plenty of room for both loosely-structured learning and free exploration of art, music, science, language and social studies. Our family operates on the principles of unconditional parenting (U/P), attachment parenting, and NVC (non-violent communication). I will happily support cloth diapering, breastfeeding, babywearing, and can accomodate allergies and other family-specific practices.

I provide loosely-structured care as well as pre-school and kindergarten readiness, homeschool support, and other extracurricular and tutoring opportunities for infants through junior high.

For the summer, I have both full-time, and part-time available, as well as dropins. For fall there aare spaces available, schedule pending. My rate for children 3-12 is $25 for 1/2 day, $40 for full day. under 3 (not potty-trained) are $30 for 1/2 day and $50 for full day. Hourly rates, overnights, partial scholarships, and sibling discounts are possible as well. My goal is to provide the affordable, high-quality care I could not find for my own kids when I was deciding whether to return to a career outside the home. So, if you need help affording this, PLEASE ASK!!! :)

We are located in the Montavilla/ North Tabor neighborhood, easily accessible by Max, bus, and freeway from Vancouver, Outer SE and NE Portland, Hollywood, Belmont, Hawthorne, Alameda, and many other neighborhoods.

Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to welcoming your family into ours.  molliv@gmail.com or 503-839-9123

Affordable Childcare/ Tutoring/ Office/ Personal Assistant Available

December 01, 2009

I am a Stay-At-Home-Mama (SAHM) to 3 beautiful children, ranging in age from infant to elementary school, and I also have over 20 years of experience in childcare, education, and enrichment. I am looking for children to watch, teach, tutor, etc (At your home or mine). Cleaning, office assistance, personal assistance also available.

All of my experience has taught me many things, amongst them:

~there is more than one way to learn, and every child deserves the best way for THEM
~"learning" does NOT mean you have to have every second of every day PLANNED- you find opportunities in children's natural curiosity
~it really DOES take a village to raise a child, so consistency and collaboration are important - for parent AND child
~you don't have to be rich to deserve top-notch care for your child

If you agree with these things, and would like your child in a montessori and waldorf - influenced environment, where the child is king (or queen), nutritional and delicious foods (allergies considered, of course!) abound, and all parenting styles and religious or spiritual beliefs are respected, please feel free to contact me. Our family utilizes attachment parenting, connected (unconditional) parenting, and NVC (non-violent communication), and eats mostly organic foods. Gluten-free diet available as well! I may be able to accept DHS payment too, just ask!

I am flexible on hours, rates, and would be willing to watch the children in my home (on the North Side of Mount Tabor/ Montavilla, near 82nd and Burnside) or yours, depending on the hours and specifics. I do not currently drive, though my husband does, so pickup and dropoff may be possible, as well as overnights, tutoring, laundry, cleaning help, etc. I welcome your family into our tribe.
