Hello. I am a 25 year old mother, and part time student looking for a family in need of a part time nanny.  My family and I just moved, so I lost my job as a nanny, where I was caring for another child along with my own, within my own home. I am 25 year old college graduate and freelance photographer/musican/artist/jewelry/ maker who loves children! Most of my childcare experience comes from working for friends and family and in my hometown Mankato, Minnesota and photographing children of all ages at a local Portrait studio in Portland.  My area of work allows me to have a very open schedule with a few photo gigs on the weekends. Montessori Children's House offers both  Toddler and Primary Montessori programs.  Located in Portland's newest neighborhood, the South Waterfront, we are still relatively 'undiscovered.'  

We have mixed-age groups -- two Toddler Classes of up to eight children with two teachers, and two Primary classes with up to 22 children ranging from three years (or a bit younger) up through kindergarten age.  As a new program, we are enrolling children now and do not yet have a “waiting list.” However, remaining spaces are limited, so call today!!

We even enrolled her in another one prior to Montessori Children's House only to pull her out because we were disappointed in our experience there. I wish that we had discovered this school sooner! My name is Hannah Rapp and I am looking to be a part-time nanny (3 days a week, although scheduling can be adjusted) this summer. I just returned home to NE Portland after finishing my second year of college in Southern California where I study Anthropology and Latin American Studies. I love to be outdoors, and would plan on taking your children to parks, bike rides (depending on age), playing in the backyard, etc. But since I know Portland’s weather can be a little wacky sometimes, with rain in July! I also have many indoor activities planned, such as painting, making music, reading, and other games that will challenge your children's imagination. I want to make this summer, with your children, one that will expand their knowledge and provide them with more tools for the future.

I have been in childcare since I was 14 watching children ranging from infant age to as old as 12 and have multiple references that I can connect you with. Urban Roots Playschool is a new in-home, child-centered playschool in the Montavilla neighborhood, easily accessible via Trimet and freeway from both NE and SE Portland, as well as Vancouver and the West Side. We offer a variety of services for children ages 1-12, and their families, focused on the child as an individual. Our loosely structured, rhythm-based flexible curriculum focuses on growing and cooking food, creating art, active play and becoming responsible citizens of our children's "tribe". Though we are most influenced by Waldorf and Montessori philosophies, our community definitely has the personality of both the teachers and the "students".

Our "playschool" has 2 age groups: ages 1-4 (preschool), and 5-10 (homeschool). Each group is held Monday-Thursday 9-2, or 12-5 (overlap for lunch and freeplay). Early and late starts are both available. Both groups will engage in individual and group projects that "teach" math, science, literacy, art, music, language, and physical education, with long, gentle transitions and overlap between activities, creating a relaxing and fun atmosphere free of pressure to "perform". Meals and snacks are generally vegetarian, organic and gluten-free, and are usually made onsite (often by the children).

Friday is "playcare" day. There will be no "curriculum" but the general rhythm will be the same.

Before and afterschool care, transport from local schools, and weekend care offered as available.

"Playnights" are offered on Friday evenings, and consist of dinner, a "dance party", outdoor and indoor activities.

We are flexible on start and end times, as long as the children arrive during a "transition" time, so that no one is arriving or leaving without finishing a project, enjoying the fruits of their labor, or starting behind the other children. Make no mistake, this is our home, NOT a large center. However, we have the same (if not more) experience, expertise, love and commitment of a "traditional" school.

Our rates are as follows. We DO offer partial scholarships, sibling discounts, full-time discounts when possible, and also are willing to accept DHS or other supplemental pay.

1/2 day "school" program : $25 per day
full day 8-6 : $45 per day
hourly rates beginning at $6
date night 5-10:30 $25 per child (Add $15 for overnight up till 10am).

Our in-home school creates a warm, welcoming environment in hopes to teach children early on that learning happens EVERYWHERE, not just in a 'classroom'. The adults are the students just as much as the children are! We encourage the staff to be open to changes within their being, to learn daily and to be themselves-we do this because we know children learn from watching.

**One of our goals is to reclaim the word ‘school’, for as we see it, life experiences is the meaning of SCHOOL. Learning = School, and learning is not just at a desk, with a math sheet in front of you 8-4pm Monday-Friday. Learning is playing, talking, problem solving, walking, breathing, LIVING!

Learning is all the time and when one is comfortable, one can learn. That is one of the main reasons I adore teaching/learning in a home. It is grounding, familiar and comfortable.

*Our children learn from self-directed play and exploration of the Earth around us and of materials. We expose them to different experiences and challenges, example: we have a painted egg carton-what could we make out of this? (it was great, the carton turned into a swing and we made a leaf and flower bed for our button bugs, this project was directed be a 4 yr old!)

*There is a 1:3 teacher ratio and all of the staff are compassionate women with a strong sense of belonging within our community and with this as our foundation we are able to promote growth daily from everyone involved in our program.

Starting July 5th, the Westside Academy of Kung Fu will be expanding on their 4's and 5's class offerings by opening a second Monday session to meet every week from 4:15-4:45.  Enrollment and class size is limited; one Wednesday 4:15-4:45 session spot is currently available as well - class slots are awarded on an ongoing "as-available" basis.  Cost is $50 a month -NO contracts!

Younger students may have the opportunity to work with licensed elementary teachers, in a small, calm, structured class environment. Do you need to work, shop, or just have some time to yourself? Are you worried that you will not be able to find (or afford) the kind of experienced, loving, and compassionate care that your child deserves? Are you tired of having to choose between expensive nannies or big impersonal centers?

Well, look no further! I am a mother of 3 with over 15 years of childcare experience outside of the home, as well CPR/ First Aid training, familiarity with naturopathic medicine, and both early childhood and elementary education training. I currently have spaces for both regular and drop-in care, as well as upcoming "date night" parties. My home feels like just that: a home. Your child will be welcomed into our family, where they will be nurtured and encouraged to explore, learn, and play at their own pace. We do cooking projects, art, music, and lots of outdoor activity, as well as reading, building with blocks and legos, and other imaginative play. Though not a certified "center", I do have a philosophy that combines the beliefs of Montessori, Waldorf, and Reggio Emilia, with plenty of room for both loosely-structured learning and free exploration of art, music, science, language and social studies. Our family operates on the principles of unconditional parenting (U/P), attachment parenting, and NVC (non-violent communication). I will happily support cloth diapering, breastfeeding, babywearing, and can accomodate allergies and other family-specific practices.

I provide loosely-structured care as well as pre-school and kindergarten readiness, homeschool support, and other extracurricular and tutoring opportunities for infants through junior high.

For the summer, I have both full-time, and part-time available, as well as dropins. For fall there aare spaces available, schedule pending. My rate for children 3-12 is $25 for 1/2 day, $40 for full day. under 3 (not potty-trained) are $30 for 1/2 day and $50 for full day. Hourly rates, overnights, partial scholarships, and sibling discounts are possible as well. My goal is to provide the affordable, high-quality care I could not find for my own kids when I was deciding whether to return to a career outside the home. **Everyay is plays out differently, depedning on everyone's mood, energy level and which kids are there.  We provide materials and time for arts&crafts, dancing to different types of music, gardening, going to the park&nautre walks, yoga, sign language, reading books&sharing stories and we spend a great amount of time talking to each child and connecting to what they are interested in doing.

 I am a Stay-At-Home-Mama (SAHM) to 3 beautiful children, ranging in age from infant to elementary school, and I also have over 20 years of experience in childcare, education, and enrichment. I am looking for children to watch, teach, tutor, etc (At your home or mine). Cleaning, office assistance, personal assistance also available.

All of my experience has taught me many things, amongst them:

~there is more than one way to learn, and every child deserves the best way for THEM
~"learning" does NOT mean you have to have every second of every day PLANNED- you find opportunities in children's natural curiosity
~it really DOES take a village to raise a child, so consistency and collaboration are important - for parent AND child
~you don't have to be rich to deserve top-notch care for your child

If you agree with these things, and would like your child in a montessori and waldorf - influenced environment, where the child is king (or queen), nutritional and delicious foods (allergies considered, of course!) abound, and all parenting styles and religious or spiritual beliefs are respected, please feel free to contact me. Our family utilizes attachment parenting, connected (unconditional) parenting, and NVC (non-violent communication), and eats mostly organic foods. Gluten-free diet available as well! I may be able to accept DHS payment too, just ask!

I am flexible on hours, rates, and would be willing to watch the children in my home (on the North Side of Mount Tabor/ Montavilla, near 82nd and Burnside) or yours, depending on the hours and specifics. I do not currently drive, though my husband does, so pickup and dropoff may be possible, as well as overnights, tutoring, laundry, cleaning help, etc. I welcome your family into our tribe.

i'm a 28yr old male who will be in school @ PSU studying history to become a high school history teacher. I have been teaching at Outward Bound Wilderness for the past four years.  I am very active outdoors, with a lot of experience and desire to teach.  

I am also a local musician, and artist.  I really love spending time with children.  I have spent time babysitting my siblings children, friends children, etc.. I have also been a part of working at a salvation army summer day camp for children age 2-10.  In my early twenties i organized and lead 3 separate trips talking high schoolers down to Ensenada mexico, to run two week long vacation bible schools.  

i am a wilderness first responder certified (including cpr, basic life support).  i was previously emt certified.

i am great with kids, and have a lot of energy and excitement for activities, and learning..  i am very creative and very much into spending time outside.. 

I will be in school tuesdays and thursdays from around 9-5ish.  I am available pretty much anytime around that.  I live in the ne close in.  I have an old toyota van, but mainly use a bicycle as transportation.  my vehicle is not the safest vehicle to transport children in.  So something in the metro are:)

I am an gardner, and a really good cook!!

I am a certified teacher turned SAHM.  I have two girls, almost two and almost four. My love of teaching and desire to do things that include my own children has led me to start Wee Fun camps and play groups.

Last months Spring Break camp was a blast.  We had so much fun that we have decide to have one every month in addition to our weekly "play, laugh and learn" mini sessions.

Every mom and dad needs a break or a chance to just clean, run errands, work... need I say more.  If you have not joined us for a mini sessions or camp now is your chance to let your kids and yourself have a break and see what Wee Fun is all about.
 

Join Miya Kai and Elsa for one or more fun-filled mornings.  Your children will enjoy circle time, singing and dancing, hands-on science experiments, real world math, reading and creative writing, messy art, cooking, nature exploration, gardening, creative play, games and more.  No parent participation required!
