sitter/nanny needed in SE

August 27, 2015

Hello! We are looking for a part time babysitter/nanny for September and October. We live in the Richmond neighborhood in SE Portland.

The minimum schedule is Wednesday afternoons/evenings (starting at around 3pm) and a few hours on Thursdays (around 10am-2pm). A few more hours are possible, but these are the times we need.

We have two children, ages 7 and 1. Our 7 year old attends school and wouldn't be present for the Thursday shift.

We would love to hear from you! Hopefully you have recent childcare/parenting experience, a reference we could contact, recent CPR training, and are able to prepare simple meals and get children to bed when needed.

Thanks for considering!

LOOKING FOR FAMILY TO JOIN INNER SE NANNY SHARE

August 23, 2015

Hello, we are looking for a family interested in joining our inner SE nanny share with our experienced, reliable nanny and our 10-month old daughter. Ideally, we are looking for another child between the ages of 6 mo. - 2yrs. Here are the details:

Location: The nanny share would be located in our home in the Buckman neighborhood, which is a good drop off location for downtown employees (~10 minute commute).

Our Family: We are an active vegetarian family with no pets, no smoking. We encourage reading and music and have a no screen policy for our daughter, who is a very smiley, outgoing and easy-going baby.

Schedule: Our current schedule is Mon-Fri 8:30-4:30pm, but we have some flexibility in the hours and are open to someone that only needs part-time care.

Nanny: Our nanny has her own transportation, is patient and has almost 10 years of experience. The total pay rate is $16/hr, which would be split.

Please contact kateandterry2014@gmail.com if you are interested or have further questions.

Seeking nanny for infant SE Portland

August 13, 2015

Hello my husband and I are seeking a nanny for our son, Henry. he will be 4 months old in October, which is when I will be returning to work. Our hours needed at this point could become adjusted as my work is helping me change my hours so we can find help easier. 7:30am-4:30pm 4 days a week (within m-f) day off is open to choice as my work is again helping me out.. Once we have all the hours & days set it will be set for the next year. We live in the SE Woodstock neighborhood very close to a park and library. Our house was built in 1926, has lots of character and a big back yard. We have been here for 11 years and are well established with neighbors and have friends close by for emergencies. We also have our first "fur baby" his name is Dutch and he's a silly corgi (3years old) he's very easy going and great with Henry. We are not the family that tossed the dog aside when our son was born, he still does it all with us. Most of his day involves sleeping and I usually take him on one small walk in the morning with the baby. A little about us: I'm a lead cook up at OHSU. I specialize in a wide range of foods from pork roast to vegan specialties (I cook it all!) I feed mostly other workers and students up on the hill but not patients. My old schedule was 4:30am-3 but this is why my boss is working with me to change my hours up. We are closed every holiday and every weekend so our nanny will not have to plan for those days. My husband works in NW at a sheet metal business and also goes to school one week out of the month. He's studying to be a journeyman and stay in the business he's at. He works 6-4 mon-fri. We are simple, fun, easygoing people. We enjoy old cars, the beach is our favorite place on earth, taking the dog to the park, listing to music, antique shopping and laughing everyday. Must have: Drivers license A working car that's reliable Infant CPR Let us background check you Sound like something your interested in? Send resume to: Email me at Mrsrobineubanks@gmail.com We look forward to meeting you!!!

Experienced Nanny Available

My name is Kit and I am a 31 year old queer nanny, artist, and student with 13 years of childcare experience. I have cared for children ages 0-13 and specialize in infant and toddler care, though I am very comfortable with all age groups and enjoy spending time with older kiddos too! I am looking for a temporary but stable position that will end (or reduce hours) when my Fall term starts at PSU towards the last week of September. I am currently available until 4:30pm on Tuesdays and anytime on Thursday and Friday until the end of August and then my availability on Fridays will change to mornings until 2pm when my current childcare position switches back to the school year schedule. Tues and Thurs will remain the same until my term starts. I would prefer to work 6-8 hours per day and I am able to offer a sliding scale of $14-17/hour for one child, with my scale increasing from there for two or more. I have a safe and reliable vehicle and drive children several times a week on outings, to camps, and other activities like athletic practices, etc. Preference given to families in NE/NoPo or close-in SE.

I am especially excited to work with other GLBTQ families and/or folks who are open to the wonderful diversity of people that exists here in Portland.

A bit more about me: I am originally from the Midwest and have nannied in Minneapolis and Baltimore before moving to Portland in 2011. I was a live-in nanny for two years in my early 20s and even went on tour with a punk band as a “road nanny” a few years back. I’ve worked in both a preschool and in-home setting and have knowledge of early childhood development as well as many different child-rearing philosophies. I use this knowledge and experience to create a safe, happy, fun, and nurturing environment for growing children to learn and explore. I am also available to help with sleep training and other challenges that may come up!

I am available for occasional babysitting as well—please feel free to get in touch if that is of interest!

I have an extensive resume and several excellent references that I would be happy to forward if it seems like it could be a good fit. email: leahkitkogan @ gmail dot com

PT SPANISH TODDLER PLAYGROUP/ PRESCHOOL LIGHT (INNER SE/NE)

August 02, 2015

We are looking for a few more toddlers to join our Spanish home-based toddler playgroup. The wonderful teacher is a native Spanish speaker who has been running the same ‘escuela’ for the last seven years.

The playgroup provides the kids significant Spanish exposure with a play-based focus. As some of the older kids are moving on to formal preschools and we do not want to lose the fantastic teacher and this great resource, we are on the lookout for new families to join us (otherwise the group will not be continuing after August).

The ‘escuela’ meets from 9:30 to 12:30 Wednesday and Friday mornings. There will be at least four, but no more than five, kids aged between 1.5 and 3 years old. The teacher speaks to the children almost exclusively in Spanish. Their day consists of outdoor play, arts and crafts, music and dancing, and parent packed snack and lunch times.  The weekly cost per child is $40. We are still trying to determine which family’s home the group would be located beginning in September but the existing two families live in Hollywood and Mt Tabor/Hawthorne.

Please email Sarah for more information at Sarah.Figliozzi@gmail.com.  We look forward to meeting interested families.

SE family looking for part-time nanny

June 15, 2015

We are a inner SE (sunnyside neighborhood) family looking for a part-time nanny for our 3-month old.  We have set schedules and need help Friday and Saturday from 2-9:30p, possibly an extra weekday every now and then.  The pay is $12 a hour, the only housework would be baby related, like washing and making bottles.  Email Rebecca if interested at emrickrebecca@gmail.com

25-40 hours per week for a 10-14 month old available Sept. 2015 – SE Woodstock

June 06, 2015

Are you looking for high-quality, affordable, personalized childcare in SE Portland?

Would your child thrive in a small, family-like environment rather than a crowded center?

Do you like the idea of a nanny share, but with a bit more structure and dependability (and not in your house)?

I have been providing child care for a small group of babies and toddlers in my home since November 2012, shortly after the birth of my oldest son.  Before this, I worked closely with kids of all ages for over 12 years as an environmental educator, elementary school teacher and as a nanny.  I love spending time with children!

Our group is very much like a little family; with just a few children here at one time, I am able to provide lots of individualized attention.  My oldest son is now in preschool and I will be caring for my youngest son and two other boys, their ages will range from 10-14 months come September.  We are looking for one more friend to join our group!   Ideally, I would love to find a family who is looking for 25-40 hours per week of care for their child who is of similar age to my current group.  This opening is available September 8 (an earlier start date might be negotiable), and I provide care Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm.  My full-time rate is $7.50 per hour.

My home is located near SE Woodstock and 60th.  Inside, we enjoy lots of free play and exploration - there are plenty of books and toys, but no TV!  We like to spend lots of time outside as well - we explore nearby parks, investigate the vegetable garden, make messes on the deck, and play in the fully fenced yard.

As a child care provider (and a parent) I value maintaining a flexible routine to our days - I find that young children benefit from knowing the general flow of the day and what is coming next.  I believe that infants and toddlers thrive with consistent and adequate rest, so age-appropriate naps are prioritized.  I even have separate sleeping areas for each child!  I am open to supporting a variety of parenting styles and values and I have lots of experience with cloth diapering, bottle feeding, baby wearing, special diets, baby-led weaning, baby sign language, and potty learning.  I am trained in first aid and CPR and have a food handler's license.  While I don't adhere to a single parenting or educational methodology, I am familiar with and borrow ideas from the RIE, Attachment Parenting, Waldorf and Montessori philosophies.

If it sounds like my care might be a good fit for your family, please contact me with questions or for more information!

Creative, experienced, and joyful Nanny available in SE

April 06, 2015

My name is Katy and I am a 28 year old, college educated, creative and FUN nanny living in the Mt. Scott/Arleta neighborhood of SE. One of the mothers I  worked for is reducing her work schedule to spend more time with her  awesome kiddos, so I am searching for another lovely family to work for.

I have great references! All will attest to my honest, strong work ethic, excellent childcare skills and easygoing, warm personality. I have over 10 years of childcare, teaching, and tutoring experience.  3+ years of gymnastics and theater teaching experience has made movement and creativity the crux of the childcare I provide! I speak Spanish very proficiently and would be more than happy to incorporate the Spanish language into my care, as well. Children in my charge with enjoy nature walks, creative outdoor play, games and songs. In my spare time, I am studying herbalism. I intern 4 hours a week at the Hawthorne Herb Shoppe. I love sharing my love for plants with children. We always stop and smell the roses!

I have the most experience caring for and teaching toddlers. I would prefer to work with one or two toddlers, but am open to any age if it's the right fit :) I love caring for children of all ages. A typical day with me and a toddler would look like Story time at the library, followed by adventures at the playground, singing improvised songs about plants and animals, movement based and creative games, and consistent nap schedule. I am also experienced with potty training toddlers and am very attentive, always positive and encouraging. I am very invested in supporting and fostering children's natural creativity, curiosity and brilliance!

I am very happy to work for all varieties of families and as a queer person, I welcome and celebrate LGBTQ families. I would love to work for a family that celebrates diversity, culture and natural healthy living.

I would prefer to work for a family relatively close to my neighborhood, as I love to ride my bike to work! I have a drivers license, vehicle, and squeaky clean driving record.  I'd  prefer to drive my employer's vehicle if driving is part of my work responsibilities.  I'd be more than happy to hitch a trailer on my bicycle! I'm an excellent, highly experienced and safe city cyclist. That is more my style of transportation :)

I am ideally looking to work 3-4 full weekdays/week, but am open to other options for the right fit. I work on a sliding scale depending on the number of children and responsibilities of the position.  Feel free to contact me about rates and other details. I hope to get the opportunity to meet you and your family soon! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my posting :)

I am college educated, and have several great references who are happy to talk with you. I am a generally happy person who is a good communicator. I am seeking a family who is happy, communicates well, and is looking for a long term (1+ yr) commitment.

I am seeking a family who needs care on Tue, Thur and/or Fridays. I am open to non-traditional schedules, so if you work evenings, or extra long days, I am happy to discuss it. I also have experience with multiples and nanny shares. I do not have a car, but get around by bus, bike and foot without any problems. I live in inner NE and am hoping to find a family nearby or easy to get to by bus and/or bike.

My rates are $14-18 depending on the number of children and related duties. I can be reached at greatpdxnanny@hotmail.com

Thanks! Sara

NE Portland- Second family for nanny share with 16-month old

Hi! We are looking for a second family to join our 16-month old daughter and current nanny in a nanny share. We would be looking to start the nanny share the week of April 20 (or anytime after that date) and are looking for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (or any combination thereof); our nanny would be available to do Thursdays with just your little if interested! My husband and I both work full-time jobs and care is generally from 8/8:30 - 3:30/4 pm.

We live in NE Portland (Rose City Park) and would ideally like to find another family with a kiddo close in age to our daughter (15-24 months?) and close by; willing to host at our home or share care between homes. We have had a nanny share until recently and our home is set up to handle two kiddos. We do have a lab mix, 4 year old dog (who is indoor/outdoor and very used to being part of our daughter's "pack").

Our nanny is 26 years old, responsible and takes direction well; she has been with our family for just over a year. If interested, please send me a message at thesobes@gmail.com and we'll take it from there! Thanks!

Full Time Care Available for an Infant/Young Toddler near SE Woodstock

March 14, 2015

My oldest son is now in preschool and I will be caring for my youngest son who is 5 months old, an 8 month old boy, and a 15 month old girl.  I currently have availability for one more child to join our group full-time between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. Ideally, I would love to find a family who is looking for at least 36 hours per week of care for their child whose birthday falls between October 2013 and October 2014.

~ Annie

Where: 2828 SE Stephens Avenue
Portland, OR 97214

Hawthorne Family Playschool is a Co-operative preschool in SE Portland for children ages 3-5. Join Teacher Susan and the Hawthorne Family Playschool community for a meet and greet and tour of our wonderful school.

Susan takes great satisfaction in influencing young people and their parents, as evidenced by her professional stance on early childhood education:
In an age in which teachers are pressured to teach academics, stripping learning from any meaningful context, HFP values play at the heart of our curriculum.
In an age in which face-to-face time diminishes along with the increase of screen time, we nourish children’s social learning as we assist them in gaining skills to build valuable relationships.
In an age of extreme individualism, we believe in the value of a caring and engaged learning community.
In an age in which parents of young children are exhausted and isolated, we bring families together for meaningful work, social engagement and support.
In an age of oppression, we challenge narrow gender scripting, biased language, and stereotyped portrayals, providing children with more expansive notions of what it is to be human.
At a time when there’s a growing awareness of the disregard for our planet, we take seriously our role as stewards of the earth, nurturing children’s connections to the natural world.
HFP safeguards childhood so children may learn joyfully.

New NE Center Location: Small Wonders School

January 22, 2015

3634 Small Wonders Rendering
We are pleased to announce the opening of the new Small Wonders School early childhood center this coming June 15, 2015. We are now accepting applications and enrolling for our 2015 Summer Session or our 2015-16 school year. Currently undergoing a complete renovation this new center sized program will ultimately serve 60 children daily ages 24 months to 6. Conveniently located in Hollywood and Laurelhurst  along the commuting routes of Sandy, Broadway and I-84 this new offering provides the NE Portland community with an accessible, central childcare location at 3634 NE Sandy Blvd. For more information please visit us at smallwondersschool.org and contact us today at enrollment(at)smallwondersschool.org to have your questions addressed!

Reggio-inspired, custom designed and built to our specifications the new early learning space is a delight with an abundance of natural light. Entering into our grand and open Welcoming Room you will spy our studio space or Atelier, accessible for small group use for art experiences and exploratory projects. The Welcome Room houses art materials, custom project tables, a reception space to greet you and gathering benches for you and your child to say goodbyes or share hellos and stories! Off this central gathering place are our three classrooms, the toddler room to the right divided into two separate zones for small intimate groups with low ratios—perfect for the littles. And to the left: our mixed-age preschool rooms. Large yet warming and inviting the preschool rooms provide an open flow between the indoor and outdoor classrooms. SmallWonders Logo Banner

Small Wonders School, voted Metro Parent’s Family Favorite for 2014-15, offers a high quality preschool program with the convenience child care hours Monday-Friday 7:30-5:30. Following the children’s interest we explore a variety of themes with our lesson plans incorporating all of the Multiple Intelligences. Our days are filled with freeplay, exploratory projects, song circle and quality art experiences where children are exposed to a variety of art materials, styles and techniques. 3, 4 and 5 day schedules are available--additional enrollment and program information can be found at www.smallwondersschool.org

At the center children 3 and older will participate in a Mixed age classroom. We feel this structure provides more flexibility for preschoolers and their particular stage of learning. Not all 3-year-olds are in the same place developmentally, socially or academically, and just as highlighted by the Theory of Multiple Intelligences learning styles, readiness for such can vary widely. Mixed age classrooms are more attuned to these differences and offer children a more varied approach as they can be grouped or gathered for play with other children on their level. This lessens the likelihood of frustrations or performance stressors. Having your child in a mixed-age group classroom gives them the opportunity to master needed skills and concepts before moving on to additional levels. They also give children deeper relationship with their teachers and peers, with less transitions to deal with. Older children have the opportunity to be role models to others, and younger child can get to see that their friends have mastered what they are working on, which can grant them confidence. Parents also have the opportunity to build a longer relationship with their child’s teacher. This partnership benefits children greatly.

Outfitted with high quality materials and furnishings the new program space will be a delightful learning center. As a Reggio-inspired program we have an Atelier or studio space located in our Welcoming Room as the heart of our program. Each class has daily use of this creative art environment for small group exploration and project time. It was designed to offer children and teachers a space to extend and support projects and experiences in the classroom, and to explore and combine many types of materials, tools, and techniques. Our Atelier is to be a beautiful, useful arts space that models the principles of the Reggio Emilia Approach.

Nanny share - Looking for a second family!

January 19, 2015

We're looking for a second family to share a full-time (M-F) nanny beginning in mid-April. Our baby boy will be 4 months old. Dad works from home in our Sunnyside home (near SE Belmont/47th) and ideally we would share/split the hosting between homes. Mom works in NW near Good Sam so a family in that neighborhood could work as well!

We'd love to hear from you if the timing and location seems like it would work for you!

Nanny Sought for part-time share in SE, 12:30-5:30 Tues-Fri starting ASAP

January 12, 2015

Hello! We have a wonderful nanny share arrangement set up in Woodstock in SE Portland. Our current nanny has had to make an emergency move back to the Bay Area, so we are seeking a creative, energetic, attentive caregiver to step into her very capable shoes as soon as possible.

The hours are 12:30-5:30 Tuesdays through Fridays (total 20 hours/week). You'll care for two 3-6 year olds during those times-- sometimes two families participate with one preschooler each, and sometimes it's just our family with two siblings (a preschooler and a kindergartner). Our home serves as the base but there are lots of fun activities in the area (library, park etc).

If this schedule works for you and this sounds like a good match, please introduce yourself via email to Ruth at rjwikler@gmail.com. Thanks!

In Home Nanny Share

December 22, 2014

Hi, I’m Erin!  My 2 year old daughter Lilia and I are looking for some new friends to join our nanny-share.  I am a former educator turned stay at home mom and worked at the Ivy School, a public charter Montessori elementary, before Lilia was born, and have been doing in home child care for friends and co-workers ever since.  For the past 18 months we have been growing and learning together with our friend Bryce, but sadly, he’s growing up and moving on.

Lilia is a curious and active little girl and loves to read her books and play her keyboard.  She also likes to play outside in our backyard, paint, cook, and play in sensory bins.  She is very musical and sings all day long and has been developing social skills and discovering her individuality by playing with Bryce.  We would love to have one or two friends who are around 1.5 to 3 join us in our Laurelhurst/Kerns area home 3-5 days a week for music, coloring, painting (we LOVE to paint), playing matching games, putting together puzzles, baking, yoga, science experiments, dancing, taking walks, and going on outings to the library, the Children’s museum, the zoo, OMSI, and the park, with Grandma (my mom lives nearby and loves to spend time with us).
