Hi!

We are looking for a family to partner with for a FT Spanish Speaking Nanny Share, starting in Sept 2016. Our daughter is currently 3 months and will be 6 months when we will need FT care (hours approx 8-5, M-F). We are also open to sharing PT, and sharing the hosting. We are raising her to be bi-lingual (Spanish and English), and step one is immersion! I am currently interviewing some great prospective nanny candidates, happy to co-interview.

Our home is located in South Tabor, in SE PDX. We are a family of 3 with two small dogs, and we value food, education and travel.

If this sounds interesting to you, please send me an email at: sofiavictoriarouth@gmail.com. Thanks!

June 08, 2016

We recently found out that our child care can't take our 3 month old daughter until September and are looking for full time care for two months. We'd be happy to host a nanny or nanny share in our home or drop her someplace close by. About us: we're in the Sunnyside neighborhood and are a pretty easygoing, active family of four.

Kindly get in touch if you have any leads or are interested. Many thanks in advance!

Cheers, Laura

Spaces Opening in July for SE Nannyshare/Private Daycare!

May 23, 2016

Hello Mamas (And Papas, as the case may be),

I am writing today on behalf of our sweet little Foster-Powell nanny-share, as things are changing up a bit and we have 2-3 spots available coming this July! Our dear nanny Solstice lovingly cares for five children (presently 3 at a time) in her clean and creative home. Below are some words from Ms. Sol, but as a mother who's been lucky to have Solstice care for our son since he was 5 months old (he is now 13 months), I would like to share how wonderful Solstice's care is. Her approach is informal/relaxed while also very interactive, educational, and highly individualized. She listens to the needs of each family and works with parents to enhance whatever routine/lessons/needs each child has so there is continuity between home and childcare. She is very flexible (so helpful!) while maintaining the utmost integrity and dependability in schedules. She has created a wonderful space in her home, and her care feels more like a fun auntie's home than a traditional daycare. She speaks predominantly Spanish to the kids presently, but this is flexible as well! Her rates are also very competitive at $8/hour.

Presently, we are looking for 2-3 kids to join for 2-4 days/week. Available days are M, T, Th, & Fridays. Solstice is also available for date nights and weekends, so she really is such an incredible support on so many levels. Our little family, and all current families, cannot recommend her enough! We hope to meet your little one(s) soon!

Please contact:

Solstice Barba: (415) 377-2711   toujourshadow@gmail.com
If you are interested, Solstice can provide all current family contact info for stellar references.

A few words from Solstice:

I am so happy to be looking forward to meeting new friends as I say goodbye to my little buddies who are soon graduating from my care. I offer a casual nanny share situation in my home and its dynamic is stellar. It both encompasses the advantages of a private nanny for your child while at the same time also reaping the benefits of peer play without the distractions of an overwhelmingly large group. The nanny share context is also very budget-friendly. I have been providing child care for over a decade now and my experiences range from private nanny to large summer camps, from nanny share to au pair, from my mom's daycare helper to home tutor and many more contexts in between. I care for children of all ages and I am available all week days minus Wednesday and not after 5:30.

Currently, I care for 5 children under the age of 4 and no more than 4 children in one day since I work alone. My home has a fenced back yard with patio deck and myself, my partner and 2 kitties are its only residents. I currently provide Spanish immersion to the children whose parents wish me to do so. Child care is my true vocation and my fulfillment comes from making my little friends happy everyday. I have a personal approach of seeing each child as unique but all children grow from smiles so my daily duty is to have fun! I deeply believe having fun is vital to a child's positive growth. I keep fluid daily schedules that include open play, storytime, yoga, school time, choir practice, dance party, creative workshop, outside tumbling, promenades, baking class, and more. I believe this small group dynamic of intimate care with friendship and play from other children allows them to thrive and flourish with each other and with me too! I consider my approach an immersion of Montessori, Waldorf and Reggio Emilia styles. My rate for full time families is 8$ an hour per child. References may be given upon meeting.

A little more about myself...I am from San Francisco! I'm a graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in liberal arts. I am a devout yoga student and also teach kids yoga at my studio. I am an avid world traveler and yet its strange that my warmest comfort comes from being home :) I welcome any background checks and I get CPR certified annually, and of course, I am a non-smoker. I am fluent in Spanish and conversational French. There is no television in my home and the only entertainment apparatus we use is my record player for dance and music time. I have an excellent education and many other work experiences such as tutoring English as a second language and crisis counseling, but it's the little ones that make me smile each day when I go to work. I put the same high expectations on myself that I expect other families to put on me. Each child is unique and I am attentive to differences when they arise. It is a strength of mine to be creative when confronting a problem. Sometimes children get restless or frustrated with sharing, or have difficulty communicating their desires, or just don't want to eat their veggies! It's important to not execute anger or negative energy to solve these situations. Love, patience, and innovation will help children much faster and more positively then any frown or holler I believe. I actually grew up in a daycare and my mother was the owner. I am eternally grateful to her. Thank you for your time and I look forward to meeting some of you and your little one(s)!

Mighty Oaks has one 2 day and one 4 day space coming available!

Mighty Oaks is beginning its 5th school year in the Grant Park neighborhood.  At Mighty Oaks, children engage in a student-interest led, play-based curriculum which encourages creativity, independence, and problem solving strategies while incorporating academic skills.  The curricular inspiration comes from a variety of constructivist theorists including Maria Montessori and John Dewey. Mighty Oaks believes that children learn best by doing and experiencing life first-hand.

At Mighty Oaks students have the opportunity to create art, engage in dramatic play, get dirty, get inspired, discover favorite books, explore, learn, laugh, and grow together.  Children have the opportunity to explore their natural environment on nature walks, digging in the organic garden beds, and interacting with the school’s three chickens; Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose.  A typical day at Mighty Oaks follows a predictable daily rhythm which serves as a guide so that students benefit from the stability of a schedule while maintaining the flexibility necessary to thrive with a play and discovery-based curriculum.

Mighty Oaks’ Founder & Director, Brittany Smith, is a licensed teacher with over a decade of experience working with young children, as well as a Masters degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education.  Smith is passionate about providing quality education to a diverse population of learners and learning styles.

As a non-profit, Mighty Oaks has the opportunity to delve more deeply into supporting the community and the whole family unit.  Smith has cultivated a number of relationships in the community that help to refine and focus Mighty Oaks’ holistic educational and familial support goals.  In addition to Smith, the Mighty Oaks board of directors includes:  David Cannon, an AMI certified Montessori school teacher/director and owner of Montessori Children’s House; Ann Summers, a Reading and Math Intervention Specialist, who serves on a committee to advise the Department of Education on measuring school readiness for preschool and kindergarten students; Amanda Fitzpatrick, a SE mother of twins currently attending Mighty Oaks, who is a graduate student studying family health and family systems; Tara Carmichael, a NE Portland mother of a Mighty Oaks alum with a wealth knowledge and experience in art education and working with diverse populations.   Additionally, Smith collaborates with local elementary school teachers to ensure that Mighty Oaks offers a nurturing, developmentally appropriate, educational environment that fosters kindergarten readiness and independence while endeavoring to instill a lifelong love of learning.

Looking for After School Nanny to start in March

January 29, 2016

Hello!  We are looking for an after school nanny to pick up our almost 5 year old and our 4 month old from Tiny Revolution Montessori School beginning in March.  The schedule would be 10 hours per week - from 3:30-6pm, Monday - Thursday.  Tiny Revolution is on MLK between Tillamook and San Rafael, and we live on SE 46th Avenue between Stark and Belmont.

You must have experience taking care of two kids and previous infant care is required. We would love someone with an appreciation for Montessori and RIE principles. We try to create a certain amount of predictability for our kids while also allowing them to choose what they want to play, explore, and learn. Assistance with light housework such as unloading the dishwasher, getting a simple dinner started, putting in a load of laundry, or tidying the kitchen or play areas would be great.  You will need your own car and a clean driving record.

We have previously participated in a nanny share and absolutely loved the experience! We are open to chatting about what works best for all parties and are happy to provide further details about our family and the schedule in person or over the phone. Pay is $14 per hour. Please send any questions or a cover letter and a resume outlining your experience to Ashley Cartmel (ashleycartmel@gmail.com)

Seeking a Fun-loving Family (and Nanny) for Nanny Share

January 26, 2016

We are a new-to-Portland family with two little ones looking for an experienced full-time nanny to care for our kiddos. We just came out of a fantastic nanny share situation back east, where we employed a nanny for over two years with our neighbors and are in search of a similar set-up here in Portland. At present, we are interested either in joining an existing nanny share (with an immediate opening) OR finding a family that is in a position similar to ours to jointly hire and employ a nanny.

A little bit about us: We just relocated from Washington, DC, and have a 2.5 YO and 3 month old (both girls). We have a 65 lb. yellow lab with a lot of energy and love for humans (especially ones that drop food when they eat) and snoozy cat that keeps to himself. We lead an active lifestyle by running, cycling, and hiking, and enjoy good food and drink (hence, the move the Portland!). We are both professionals with full-time jobs (although I am currently still home on maternity leave) with backgrounds in public policy, education, and consulting.

What we’re looking for in a nanny: We are seeking a kind, caring, interactive, and playful caregiver who possesses strong references and a desire to work with both infants and toddlers. The We would like caregiver to have Infant First Aid & CPR training and ideally some background (formal or informal) in early childhood education.  We are only interested in a non-smoking caregiver.

The schedule: M-F from 7:30am or 8am to 5pm but we are open to slightly different hours if needed. And we would be open to taking on a larger “share” of the nanny if there is a family seeking a share but not full-time like we are.

The location: We are open to a combination of our house and your house if they are close enough together; happy to host ourselves or have you host. We are in Buckman on 15th Ave just a south of Belmont--walkable to Colonel Summers Park, Laurelhurst Park, Buckman Elementary, OMSI, the Children’s Gym, and a wide array of kid-friendly activities. We have a separate room in the house where your child can sleep in a pack and play.  Our preference is that our nanny does not drive the kids anywhere during the day; however, if that’s a sticking point, we’re open to discussing other options.

If you are a caregiver interested in a FT nanny position OR a family interested in sharing a nanny with us, please contact Sara at sara.e.kerr@gmail.com.

Thanks!
Sara

MWF Nanny Share--Sellwood

January 18, 2016

We have a wonderful nanny for our 2 1/2 year old. She is kind, caring, interactive, playful, and professional--she graduated from NW Nannies Institute so has professional training and her first aid and cpr certifications. She has been working with our family since 2012 first caring for our 10 month old daughter who has now moved on to preschool and now for our 2 1/2 old. For years now, we’ve shared with 1 to 2 other families but one family just had a change in employment so it’s time for us to find a new family to join us.

The share currently has two little girls including my daughter who is 2.5 and another little girl from the neighborhood who is 22 months and they are dear friends :-)

The schedule: MWF from 7:30am or 8am to 5pm but we are open to slightly different hours if needed.

The location: We are open to a combination of our house and your house if they are close together. We are in Sellwood on 15th Ave just a few blocks south of Tacoma--walkable to Sellwood Park, the Community Center, the library, New Seasons. It’s a great place for the kids to have some activities outside of the house regularly without having to drive somewhere. We will have a separate room in the house where your child can sleep in a pack and play.  We do not have the nanny drive the kids anywhere and that remains important to us but she is happy to do drop off or pick up for your little one if that is something you feel comfortable with.

The rate: $6.00/hour though we do request that you have the flexibility to increase to $8.00 if the share drops down to two children while we look for a 3rd.   We convert the $6.00/hour into a flat weekly rate and pay the same each week regardless of whether there are holidays, sick days, etc--this is so that the nanny has a predictable living wage.

About us: We have our two wonderful daughters and a 60 lb dog named Meg who mostly keeps to herself. We make efforts to be green--from eating a vegan diet to using cloth diapers and natural products. My husband is a teacher and I work in renewable energy. Please get in touch if you are interested in discussing more! amandamortlock [@] gmail.com

Seeking nanny share -- Join our nanny and 3.5 yr old son

January 07, 2016

We are a family in the Hawthorne area in SE Portland seeking another family to share our wonderful nanny, Suzanne. Suzanne is very caring and reliable, and has several years experience with preschool age children. She primarily cares for our 3 1/2 year old son, with occasional after school care for our 6 year old daughter. We'd like to find another 3-4 year old to join in their adventures and play, which include games, art, baking, reading, fort building, and frequent outings to parks, OMSI, the Zoo, Messy Art, etc. No screen time, and lots of creative, active play. We are interested in more regular play and social opportunities for our son, and can accommodate another child joining any part of our current schedule:

Mon and Wed, 8:00-5:00
Tues and Thurs, 1:00-5:30
Possibly some Friday hours

If you are interested, contact Emily at 503-516-9552 or moore.emily@comcast.net to talk about schedule, rates and other details.

Seeking a Nanny-Share to Join in SE Starting March 2016 (or sooner!)

January 02, 2016

We are seeking a great nanny-share to join for our 19-month-old daughter starting March 2016, or sooner. We are seeking regular care for 2-3 days/week (Mon-Tues, Mon & Wed, or Mon-Wed) for about 9.5 hours per day, typically from 7:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.  We live in SE Portland near SE 47th Ave and Division Street and we work downtown.

What we’re looking for:  We’re seeking a family in SE Portland who already has a nanny and who would like us to share with you Mon-Tues; Mon & Wed or Mon-Wed and host.  Ideally we would like to share with 1-2 other toddlers.

Why:  My husband and I work full-time in Portland Mondays-Wednesdays, but because we live in a small studio apartment these days, we are seeking a nanny-share situation that our daughter could join in on.  We live in Hood River the remainder of the week.  We are currently taking part in a wonderful nanny-share situation, but sadly our nanny is moving from Portland!

About us: My h IMG_8974_smallerusband and I are active individuals in our late 30s. We spend our free time outdoors - surfing, mountain biking, hiking, camping and running rivers.  We’re delighted to be parents of one very happy and spirited young girl, Piper Mae (she’ll be 2 in May).  We have demanding jobs and are therefore looking for a highly dependable situation. We’re clean, organized and we care about the environment.  What that means for our daughter’s care is that we use cloth diapers, glass bottles and we feed her organic, fresh cooked foods when possible.

Ideal caretaker:  We’re seeking a dynamic, energetic, healthy and attentive individual with multiple years of experience caring for toddlers. We would expect a caregiver to create a loving and safe environment and to engage with our daughter to foster learning and development appropriate for her age through play, music, art, movement, conversation and time outdoors.  We would like caregiver to have Infant First Aid & CPR training and ideally some background in early childhood education.  We are only interested in a non-smoking home with a caregiver that does not smoke.

Thanks for your consideration!  If you think you have a situation that might be a good fit, please email me, kristin.dahl@gmail.com

Family in Happy Valley looking for a nearly full time nanny. We are a family with two working parents and have one awesome little girl who  will be 3 in February (and is still a power napper 2.5-3 hrs per day) and are in the process to adopt an infant or toddler later this year.  Duties will include infant/toddler care, driving to local activities (zoo, OMSI, museums, library etc) as well as pick-up/drop-off at pre-school starting in March, simple meal prep, and 3 loads of laundry per week (basically one each day you are here).

SE Family Seeking Full-time Nanny for 2

October 28, 2015

IMG_3974

Hello! We are a family who is moving to the Reed neighborhood next week (in November), and seeking a full-time (40 hours per week) nanny for our two children-- a baby and a 2-year-old.  The full-time position would start in January, but we may want some trial part-time care in December to ensure a good fit.

We'd love someone who can care for the baby (and isn't afraid to wear her-- we have a Beco Gemini, a size 6 woven wrap, a Moby wrap, and a ring sling) while also providing engaging adventures and learning experiences for our toddler.

Training or experience with Montessori or Waldorf approaches to education would be great!  All-weather outdoor play is also encouraged. Nanny must be able to provide his/her own transportation.

Please contact Michelle at michelleLgolden@gmail.com or (404)317-0302 to set up an interview if you are interested.

Warmly,

Michelle

Manos Unidas Montessori Enrolling for January 2016

Manos Unidas Montessori is new to the Lents neighborhood in Southeast Portland. We are located between Woodstock and Foster Blvd on 87th Avenue, right down the street from the Lents Max Train. We offer educational programs for children six weeks to six years old.

Manos Unidas Montessori, or 'MUM' focuses on the whole child, low impact environmental practices, food, peacemaking, and community building.  We offer Spanish-English bilingual programs as we believe Spanish is an extremely important language to know, and offering children other languages at a young age is the most effective way to build a bilingual community, opening doors for children as they grow into adults.

We currently have openings in our Primary Program for children mostly toilet independent, and openings in our Toddler Program (children walking to age three) for January 2016.

Waldorf Inspired Teacher Guided Nanny Share/Adventure Group Has Wednesday Morning Openings!

September 30, 2015

Hi There!

IMG_7071

My name is Sara pronounced (Sahra) and I am a Waldorf inspired teacher with over 17 years of childcare experience with children of all ages. My time with children has taught me how to slow down, find playful moments in every activity, and to stay present, loving, and kind. I have created a sweet little spin off of my former preschool, Sweet River bamboo, that I created and taught at for 3 years in the form of a nanny share. If I were asked to describe in one word the quality of the relationships I cultivate with children, it would be... Magical. There is space available for 1-2 children in my play group on Wednesdays from 9a-1p/3:30p. This nanny share arrangement is ideal for families who want their children to socialize and explore creativity and nature weekly, and who want to gently introduce/or continue offering their child a small group of children to engage with in a warm and loving environment. This childcare group is well established and a high quality group with extremely mindful care and thoughtful parenting.

Your child will be playing with 2 year old Macy and 4 year old Seamus for the day. We are in Macy's home until 1p and then at Seamus's home after that for nap/rest time. Macy is kind and strong. She loves filling up her back packs for adventures, and playing dress up. Seamus is an energetic tender spirit who loves to build polar bear dens and play chase. Both children love to make art, cuddle, and read books. Our rhythm is filled with playtime, song circles, and craft making that celebrate the seasons and infuse our time together with rich, collaborative activities. There is a lot of silliness and laughter too! If our group size allows, we visit playgrounds and venture out to the local gardens around town. There is a lot of silliness and laughter too! Our days are media free aside from world music that  accompanies our dance jams. I would like to bring our new group together as soon as possible so we can all get to know each other and settle into our rhythm. I have excellent references to share with you so please contact me at 503-432-6414 or saralizadeh@hotmail.com to learn more about this arrangement. Above all, I truly see children as whole beings of love and light, and I deeply enjoy getting to know each and every little one who joins my path and shares their magic with me. Please check out my former preschool's facebook page, Sweet River Bamboo and extended childcare post to get a sense of the quality of care I provide children.

Thank you!

Sara

SE family seeking a nanny weekdays for our 9 month old girl

September 28, 2015

Hello! I'm looking for a great nanny for my 9 month old daughter. I'm hoping to find an upbeat, easy going person to work Monday - Friday from about 10-2. The hours are somewhat flexible. Her dad and I are both business owners with varying schedules so one of us will be home sometimes.

I would love to find someone who likes to engage with our baby and go out and do fun things like story time at the library, play in the park, hit farmers markets, or whatever sounds fun that day.

I'm hoping to find a cool person without a major child-rearing agenda. I think all the philosophies have their good points, but most of them are too extreme. We believe in having fun and learning through experience and taking things one day at a time.

Occasional help with baby related chores would be great.

$15-$20/hour

Please contact me if you're interested!

Experienced Nanny Available

September 16, 2015

My name is Kit and I am a 31 year old nanny, artist, and musician with 13 years of childcare experience. I have cared for children ages 0-13 and specialize in infant and toddler care, though I am very comfortable with all age groups, including twins and multiples, and enjoy spending time with older kiddos too! I am looking for a stable position (a contract for 1 year+ would be ideal) and am available to start immediately. I am currently available from 8am until 2:30 or 4:30pm on Tuesdays (depending on some logistical things—we can discuss further if interested) and anytime after 8am on Thursdays. On MWF I am available from 8am until approximately 2:30pm. I would prefer to work 6-8 hours per day and I am able to offer a sliding scale of $14-17/hour for one child, with my scale increasing from there for two or more. I have a safe and reliable vehicle and drive children several times a week on outings, to camps, and other activities like athletic practices, etc. Preference given to families in NE/NoPo or close-in SE.

I am especially excited to work with other GLBTQ families and/or folks who are open to the wonderful diversity of people that exists here in Portland.

A bit more about me: I am originally from the Midwest and have nannied in Minneapolis and Baltimore before moving to Portland in 2011. I was a live-in nanny for two years in my early 20s and even went on tour with a punk band as a “road nanny” a few years back. I’ve worked in both a preschool and in-home setting and have knowledge of early childhood development as well as many different child-rearing philosophies. I use this knowledge and experience to create a safe, happy, fun, and nurturing environment for growing children to learn and explore. I am also available to help with sleep training and other challenges that may come up! I also have infant CPR and first-aid training.

I am available for occasional babysitting as well—please feel free to get in touch if that is of interest!

I have an extensive resume and several excellent references that I would be happy to forward if it seems like it could be a good fit. email: leahkitkogan @ gmail dot com

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Kit

Seeking nanny for infant SE Portland

August 13, 2015

Hello my husband and I are seeking a nanny for our son, Henry. he will be 4 months old in October, which is when I will be returning to work. Our hours needed at this point could become adjusted as my work is helping me change my hours so we can find help easier. 7:30am-4:30pm 4 days a week (within m-f) day off is open to choice as my work is again helping me out.. Once we have all the hours & days set it will be set for the next year. We live in the SE Woodstock neighborhood very close to a park and library. Our house was built in 1926, has lots of character and a big back yard. We have been here for 11 years and are well established with neighbors and have friends close by for emergencies. We also have our first "fur baby" his name is Dutch and he's a silly corgi (3years old) he's very easy going and great with Henry. We are not the family that tossed the dog aside when our son was born, he still does it all with us. Most of his day involves sleeping and I usually take him on one small walk in the morning with the baby. A little about us: I'm a lead cook up at OHSU. I specialize in a wide range of foods from pork roast to vegan specialties (I cook it all!) I feed mostly other workers and students up on the hill but not patients. My old schedule was 4:30am-3 but this is why my boss is working with me to change my hours up. We are closed every holiday and every weekend so our nanny will not have to plan for those days. My husband works in NW at a sheet metal business and also goes to school one week out of the month. He's studying to be a journeyman and stay in the business he's at. He works 6-4 mon-fri. We are simple, fun, easygoing people. We enjoy old cars, the beach is our favorite place on earth, taking the dog to the park, listing to music, antique shopping and laughing everyday. PT SPANISH TODDLER PLAYGROUP/ PRESCHOOL LIGHT (INNER SE/NE)

August 02, 2015

We are looking for a few more toddlers to join our Spanish home-based toddler playgroup. The wonderful teacher is a native Spanish speaker who has been running the same ‘escuela’ for the last seven years.

The playgroup provides the kids significant Spanish exposure with a play-based focus. As some of the older kids are moving on to formal preschools and we do not want to lose the fantastic teacher and this great resource, we are on the lookout for new families to join us (otherwise the group will not be continuing after August).

The ‘escuela’ meets from 9:30 to 12:30 Wednesday and Friday mornings. There will be at least four, but no more than five, kids aged between 1.5 and 3 years old. The teacher speaks to the children almost exclusively in Spanish. Their day consists of outdoor play, arts and crafts, music and dancing, and parent packed snack and lunch times.  The weekly cost per child is $40. We are still trying to determine which family’s home the group would be located beginning in September but the existing two families live in Hollywood and Mt Tabor/Hawthorne.

Please email Sarah for more information at Sarah.Figliozzi@gmail.com.  We look forward to meeting interested families.
