Fun-loving, Reliable, and Nurturing Nanny / Artist

April 16, 2014

Hi! My name is Shannon and I am a babysitter and nanny here in Portland. I have been babysitting for the past ten years and a nanny for the past five years, working with ages newborn through 8 years old, with extensive experience with infants and toddlers. I currently work full time as part of a nanny share for two families that each have two children, ranging in ages from 15 months through 5 years old. I have been with one family for a year and a half since their littlest was 10 weeks old! Schedules are changing for both families, as our my needs, so we are sadly going to be ending the share at the end of April. ----- I would like to be able to spend more time on my art and photography businesses and therefore I am hoping to find a new position 3 full days/week (8-10 hour days) and am flexible on which days those are. I am open to working more than 3 days per week on occasion and date nights as well. I am also open to another nanny share situation.

Nanny share opportunity--MWF

April 02, 2014

We have a wonderful nanny for our 7 month old. She is kind, caring, interactive, playful, and professional--she graduated from NW Nannies Institute so has professional training and her first aid and cpr certifications. She has been working with our family since 2012 first caring for our 10 month old daughter who has now moved on to preschool and now for our 7 month old. For years now, we’ve shared with 1 to 2 other families but the kids have moved on to preschool so it’s time for us to find a new family to join us.

The schedule: MWF from 8am to 5pm but we are open to slightly different hours if needed.

The location: We are open to a combination of our house and your house if they are close together on our commute to work. We are in Sellwood on 15th Ave just a few blocks south of Tacoma--walkable to Sellwood Park, the Community Center, the library, New Seasons.  It’s a great place for the kids to have some activities outside of the house regularly without having to drive somewhere. We will have a separate room in the house where your child can sleep in a pack and play (with an organic mattress :) ).  We do not have the nanny drive the kids anywhere and that remains important to us but she is happy to do drop off or pick up for your little one if that is something you feel comfortable with.

The rate: We've been doing $8 per hour per child.   At some point, we’d look for a third child to add and that would change the rate to $6/hour per child.

About us: We have our two wonderful daughters and a 60 lb dog named Meg who mostly keeps to herself. We make efforts to be green--from eating a vegan diet to using cloth diapers and natural products. My husband is a teacher and I work in renewable energy. Please get in touch if you are interested in discussing more! amandamortlock [@] gmail.com

Day Care Spots Available for Toddlers (Inner SE Portland)

March 04, 2014

I have a small (3-4) group of wonderful toddlers I care for in my SE Portland home (near Division and 30th).  I have an immediate opening for Tuesdays, and full-time spots opening in the summer.  Hours are 8am - 5pm, with earlier and later hours available by prior arrangement.  We eat healthy and delicious organic meals, enjoy daily time in the fresh air, and laugh a lot.  Daily activities include painting and drawing, several story times with books and songs, dance parties with balloons and scarves, bubble chasing, exploring music, walks to Piccolo Park, and free play.  I keep the group small so that I can give plenty of individual attention, encouragement, and reassurance they still so need at this age.

I have a degree in Social Work, am trained in infant and child first aid and CPR, and am a mature mother of a sweet, goofy 2-year old (who is part of our group).  I am heavily influenced by Montessori philosophy, by which I mean that I focus on independence in children and create a child-based, beautiful and calm environment.  My rate is $70/day, which includes all meals and snacks.  Please email with any questions.  I look forward to chatting with you!  Mercy Pozgay (mercyblue@gmail.com)

SE Nanny Share opening

Hello Urban Mamas,

We have one wonderful nanny and one adorable 1 year old (our son), and we need one more child to join our nanny share in SE Portland begninng January 1st. Currently the nanny share is at our house in the SE Hawthorne neighborhood but we are open to holding it at your house. Since last March, we've had our son and one other boy, same age, in the nanny share, but the other family has moved to North Portland and the commute is too much for us all. Our nanny is experienced and came with good references. She is very playful, loving, kind, and sets good boundaries for the babies. She likes to get out - going on walks to the park, OMSI, or other activities. We have a safe space for the babies, and separate rooms for sleeping for each of them. She sings to them, teaches them sign language, and is really invested in giving each baby what he needs to thrive. The current hours are 8-5pm. The current rate is $13/hour, split between the two families ($6.5 each). We only need care 4 days a week, but our nanny is available 5 days/week. We think a child around the same age as our son (1 yr old) would work best.

Please email alliequady@gmail.com if this sounds like it could work for you!

Best, Allie

Flexible Nanny Needed (in Inner Southeast) Starting Late December

October 21, 2013

We are looking for a nanny for our daughter starting at the end of December.  She’ll be six months old then. We need someone who will be able to work flexible hours and weekdays, though we will not need help before 6:30 am or after 8 pm.   We also will rarely need someone more than 10 hours in a day. We know our schedule a month in advance so the days and hours could be arranged the month before.   Although the schedule would vary, we can guarantee 15 hours weekly at 15 dollars an hour.  Some weeks we will need more help than this.

If you are interested, please let me know and we’ll set up a time to meet and get to know each other.

Thanks, Amy and Andy

Energetic Reggio nanny seeking 35+hr/wk with new family

IMG_0513

Hello families!
I am a 22-year-old nanny who, after an office stint, is looking to get back to my childcare roots. I am looking to start in the next few weeks, and would prefer to give my current place of employment 2 weeks notice. In January I plan on returning to school part-time so I am looking for a family with a bit of flexibility in the future, but would give at least a month's notice before needing to change my work schedule.

Prior to my current job, I worked with toddlers and preschool-age children for three years in a Reggio center. I have also worked with infants in a Montessori school. Most recently I was a nanny for a year and a half for toddler twins. I tend to integrate several educational philosophies but we can, of course, work together on this. I am experienced with cloth diapers, potty training, infant sign language, and conversational Spanish. I also have some special needs experience. I'm more than happy to help clean up around the house and I love to cook. I have all certifications and paperwork in order (RCAAN, cpr/first-aid, criminal history registry, food handler's).

In-Home "Mommy-share"

Fourteen month old Lilia, and her 17 month old friend Bryce, are looking for another friend to join our nanny share.

My name is Erin, and I am Lilia's mama.  I am a former educator turned stay at home mom who most recently worked at the Ivy School, a public charter Montessori elementary, and have been doing in home care on an as-needed basis for friends and co-workers for the past year.  My philosophy as a teacher, and as a mother, is that children should be allowed to discover their world with as few limits and barriers as is safe and kind on the part of the caretaker.  I believe in respecting children as capable individuals who are valued in the community and the family.  In practice this means that I make an effort to give children a lot of freedom and encourage interactive learning and discovery in their environments.

Ideally we would like to have a friend who is between 14 -18 months old join us in our Laurelhurst area home 4-5 days a week.

If you are interested in having your child join us, please contact Erin directly at efgwynn@gmail.com

Thanks! :)

Growing Together Playschool, A Socially Conscious, Reggio-inspired preschool in Foster/Powell SE Portland

A new small family-run preschool is opening in the Foster Powell neighborhood of SE Portland this fall. The Growing Together Playschool has a few openings for 18 month-3.5 year olds and 3-6 year-olds.
The Growing Together Playschool offers small classes in a friendly home setting. The younger class, Wonder Days (for 18 months -3.5 yrs) is designed to offer a gentle “first school” experience for the children. Skills such as taking turns, expressing one's needs and desires, sharing ideas, playing together, being respectful to oneself, others and things, asking questions, investigating the hows and whys of the world, and extending natural interests through books, projects and experiences are modeled and encouraged.
The older class, Adventure Team (for 3-6 yr olds) is a continuation of the class I have been offering for the past few years. In Adventure Team, the students are encouraged to see their world as a place that they can influence and explore. They are taught to solve problems independently and in group meetings. We explore the world through weekly field trips to community, wilderness and kid-focused spots and bring our ideas and interests back for project work, group and collaborative play and general fun.
At the Growing Together Playschool children are guided to make their own choices and taught how to get the things they need and want while remaining respectful and safe to others. Respect is seen as a foundational tool used to guide behavior to ensure safety and fun for all. The older children are encouraged to participate in rule-making and determining consequences (if consequences are deemed necessary). Punishment is not used and consequences are only used when necessary, useful and respectful.
Growing Together Playschool offers children time for in-depth investigation into their world and the tools and toys with which to explore. Reggio-inspired emergent curriculum means that children can bring their own interests to class and have those interests encouraged and extended upon.
Of course, we also offer a daily rhythm that is easy going and predictable, and toys and activities to promote intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth. The teacher, Liz, has a Master's Degree in Early Childhood teaching and is a mother of two young children.
Please see more details at: www.growingtogetherplayschool.com

Part-time Nanny Wanted in Inner SE

August 20, 2013

We are looking for someone to care for our infant daughter (3 months) at our home in the Buckman neighborhood beginning in September.  We need someone who is willing to work part-time from 9:00-3 (maybe earlier some days) on Thursdays and Fridays during the school year with occasional breaks (following the school calendar).  The ideal nanny will have experience working with infants and have excellent references.

We would like to find someone who is loving and caring and will take time to interact with our daughter and give her plenty of opportunities to learn and explore as she grows.  We use cloth diapers and our daughter is breastfed, so we'd love to work with someone who is experienced with this or willing to learn.

We are also open to a nanny share situation.

If you are interested, please contact us at 971-250-1356 or brittany.nielsen.watson at gmail.com.

Thanks!

Looking for a nanny to work M-F afternoons, in a share situation; close-in SE Portland

August 17, 2013

Two families looking for an experienced, reliable, and energetic part-time nanny for our easy-going (but active!) preschoolers, a boy and a girl, both 4 years old. Weekdays from 12-5, except 12-3:30 on Tuesdays. Parents work at home and are in need of uninterrupted work time, so we’re looking for someone to pick up the kids from their school in the Woodstock neighborhood (with our family car), give them snacks, and plan outings & activities for them. They love art projects, music, books, and exploring parks. They’re best buddies and love to play together, although resolving the occasional conflict will be necessary, so being able to effectively communicate with verbal and strong-minded preschoolers is important. Certification in child CPR and first-aid required, as well as excellent references and a clean driving record. Fluency in a second language and experience caring for at least two children is a plus. If this sounds like a good fit, please don’t hesitate to contact us at sepdxfamily@gmail.com

Babysitting Swap | North Tabor

August 16, 2013

I am a work at home mom with a very sweet, active, curious boy named Milo who is nearly a year old. I would love to babysit another child close in age to Milo so the kids can play and interact. At the same time, I would love a break during the day so I can get more work done. At this stage, I cannot really get anything done when he's awake so I might as well watch 2 or even 3 children, but get a full break on other days.

My home is peaceful and safe, with loads of toys, books and no tv. There is also a back yard. Food is organic and healthy. I believe in letting children explore and discover their world on their own, while keeping a close eye and making sure they are safe. I am also a warm, flexible, and present mother/caregiver.

If this sounds good to you, please contact me at claudiabrownstudio@gmail.com

Seeking Part-Time Nanny in SE Portland

August 05, 2013

I'm looking for a part-time nanny to care for my infant son at my home in inner SE Portland. He will be three months old when I return to work in September.

I work three 12-hour night shifts a week as a nurse and will need help during the days in between shifts so that I can sleep (my husband has a regular daytime office job). I'm a breastfeeding mom, looking for someone to bring him to me to nurse in bed every few hours. We also have a friendly dog in the home, and a willingness to walk him during a nursing session would be a huge plus.

My schedule is irregular but I will try to make it as regular as possible, and can work around your needs when I put in my schedule requests. We can be flexible about the hours - something like 9am to 7pm two days a week would be great.

Pay is negotiable and DOE.

Please reply to seportlandcouple@gmail.com if you’re interested. Thank you!

PT Experienced Nanny/Share Available

July 31, 2013

I'm a SAHM to my wonderful 18 month old toddler. I'm interested in a part-time nanny position, in which I would bring my daughter along with me to your home. Preferably, you have a child of similar age.

A bit about me: I have an AA in Early Childhood Education and a BA in Child and Family Studies (4.0 GPA). While in college, I worked as a long term nanny for two families over the course of 4+ years (simultaneously, as a nanny share for about 2.5 of those years).

After college, I worked at the Nike Child Development Center in Beaverton as a Lead Teacher for ages 0-3, until I left to give birth and stay at home with my daughter. I had a lot of fun doing a nanny share for two toddlers, so I think the timing is perfect to start one with my own daughter.

Our Wonderful Nanny Is Looking for a New Family

Our wonderful nanny is looking for a new family.  Our youngest son, Nicholas, was accepted into his older brother’s preschool from the wait list. This is great news, but also a mixed blessing, because we love our nanny and don’t want to let her go!  So, we are on a mission to find a new perfect family for her.

Our nanny has been with us for the past 9 months, taking care of our two sons Aiden and Nicholas.  When she started, Aiden was 2-1/2 and Nicholas was 9 months.  She quickly discovered many ways to be useful to our family, and has only grown more helpful as the months pass.

I simply cannot recommend our nanny more highly.  She is just about perfect, as far as I am concerned.   Reliable, on time, and a calm and steady presence around the house.  She is a natural with kids, and mine hit it off with her right away.  She has extensive childcare experience and a background in arts education, and always comes up with healthy, educational, and fun things to do with the kids.

If you would like any additional information, please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to answer any questions – clopez331@gmail.com. We will be sure to forward any information to her.  She is flexible with her schedule and ready to start in September.  She just moved to SE and would prefer a job in SE or close-in NE, but would consider other areas as well.  We highly recommend her, and know that her new family will be very happy with her.

Thank you!

Carrie Lopez

Inner SE nanny share wanted

July 04, 2013

My family is seeking both a nanny and parent partners to form a nanny share in the Sellwood area starting in mid-August.

We will need care for one toddler during the 2013-2014 PPS school year from roughly 7:30-12:30 three to five days a week.  We hope to add one or two more children to this care period, or otherwise collaborate to balance costs and the desire to offer a nanny a job that's a good fit.

Things we emphasize in parenting:  books, healthy food, growing a child's unique sense of self, no screens,  and fresh air.

Things we seek in a nanny:  enthusiasm for children, great communication skills, and experience.

Please contact Liz at lizeroo123@gmail.com if this might work for you.
